Book Introduction

After my last book 52 titled All My MAS Books! www.createspace.com/6306051 and the last book on the series Between Us Only! titled Wipe My Tears! www.createspace.com/4304972 – I became very sick and was admitted in Royal Hospital in Oman from November 2015 to January 2016 when I was operated for Prostate Operation – thankfully malign!

I lapsed into a Coma State in ICU – Intensive Care Unit EER – in December 2015 and was there for more than a month!

Unknown to me at the time, there was a Court case placed against me by One International Home Bank against my defunct Consultancy – Management & Marketing Development Consultancy – MMDC – which had collapsed and gone bankrupt in January 2001 – that is 15 years ago – and still being followed and being traumatized to date!

The TRUTH be told also –

SIMPLY NO ONE had contacted me from the Bank or from anyone else!  For Plus 12 years!

Today I have LOST MY PERSONAL FREEDOM and Civil Status too – sadly to the Most Committed Loyal True Feeling Sincere Citizen and National. My GMC Yukon they refused to renew The Mulkiya which expired since April 2016.

I am just paying The PDCs and if I do not another issue will arise. This Bank has billions to offer Big Cmpanies but they still go to Retired Omani Pensioners with a vengeance drawing blod from stone! Al Hamdu Lillah!

Oman & The World Please Note!

Nothing has changed much in Oman despite all my writings in my columns and books – the columns that ran for more than 15 years before being targeted and killed off in 2013 – on a technicality – but frankly I think more on their designs policing to subdue people speaking The Truth! The games of The Mafias usually run and led by sadly our Indian friends dominating The Media in Oman – and tragically more by our own Omanis – The Old Guards!

The articles in this book are mainly centred on the above aspects as now being denied the public route through my Oman Daily Observer in my columns Between Us Only! and At My Workplace!

I decided to add this book 53 to my series of books – with due apologies to The Reader that the emphasis and concentration in this book was what was happening to me at the time – and to compile the subjects topics under this book 53 – That Is The way It Is!

When people cannot expect justice because you have No Wastah or with being famous and rich – then writing to your own heart and conscience is the only way left!

Al Hamdu Lillah! Hasbiya Allah Wa Naymat Wa Kyll!

Prophet Nabii Daud David RA Sura Sad 22 – 26.

  1. We made his kingdom strong and gave him Al-Hikmah (Prophethood, etc.) and sound judgement in speech and decision.21. And has the news of the litigants reached you? When they climbed over the wall into (his) Mihrab (a praying place or a private room,).22. When they entered in upon Dawud (David), he was terrified of them, they said: “Fear not! (We are) two litigants, one of whom has wronged the other, therefore judge between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, and guide us to the Right Way.23. Verily, this my brother (in religion) has ninety nine ewes, while I have (only) one ewe, and he says: “Hand it over to me, and he overpowered me in speech.”24. [Dawud (David)] said (immediately without listening to the opponent): “He has wronged you in demanding your ewe in addition to his ewes. And, verily, many partners oppress one another, except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and they are few.” And Dawud (David) guessed that We have tried him and he sought Forgiveness of his Lord, and he fell down prostrate and turned (to Allah) in repentance.25. So We forgave him that, and verily, for him is a near access to Us, and a good place of (final) return (Paradise).26. O Dawud (David)! Verily! We have placed you as a successor on earth, so judge you between men in truth (and justice) and follow not your desire for it will mislead you from the Path of Allah. Verily! Those who wander astray from the Path of Allah (shall) have a severe torment, because they forgot the Day of Reckoning.Surah Sad – Nabii Daud RA The Holy Quran

About The Book!

This book 53nd is The Sequel to my earlier 52 books to date!

After my last book, I was admitted in Royal Hospital for a Prostate operation that ended me falling into a coma state in ICU – Intensive Care Unit – EER – for almost a month! See B – The Prophet’s Dream!

The book ontains all the articles and topics that I had posted in My Websites Blogs and The Social Media since the 52nd book.

The book can also stand on its own to describe all my 52 books to date! 6 books on Arab Management, 3 on Road Safety, 6 on My Autobiography (The Story of My Life!) – 12 on my Columns Writings ‘Between Us Only!’ and ‘At My Workplace!’ and the rest on assorted topics!

  • It is hard to beat a person who never gives up! – Babe Ruth
  • Writing is the only profession where no one considers you ridiculous if you make no money! – Jules Renard

The book is a bird’s eye view on all about all my books and from all my varied articles to date! The books produced here are in main part linked to me as Majid aka as Magic – Magic Man as the pseudonym I used in ‘The Forums’! Also interestingly the article – Why Do They Call You Magic? Also Who Is Majid? And My Epitaph! The articles are also about My Family and My Late Parents – Peace Be Upon Them!

I hope you will like reading about me!

People were always asking me – Why don’t you write a book about yourself and all your books as at one stop centre? The story of your life? All about your books! So people can remember you and your works – and as a Memory and Record for all your works to date!

I then decided to accept the challenge and write this book. Like the other books – I have tried to be as factual as possible – and with my usual style of writing of speaking to you directly from my heart – and to be as sincere, genuine, frank, forthright as possible – so that this book can not only be used in Research works – but as a Guide and Beacon for the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren – and future generations by the Grace of Allah God – Ameen Amen.

Prophetic Supplications for Trials

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The supplication of my brother Dhun Nun (Yunus, peace be upon him), who called on Allah while in the whale’s belly: ‘There is no deity but You. Glory be to You! Verily, I have been among the wrongdoers’ (Quran 21:87) – no Muslim person says it, for any situation whatsoever, except that Allah Most High answers his call.” [Tirmidhi]

About The Book!

I        PREFACE

This book is the 11th book in The Series – Between Us Only! And my 21st book so far.

It is recommended that this book be read together with this book: –

Writing: My Passion! – www.createspace.com/5085322

* Also – Goodbye; Between Us Only! – www.createspace.com/5139836

There were some articles missed out in the above * book after the end and the collapse of my column articles in November 2013 – more than a year ago!

What is of paramount importance is to get all my articles Post last Between Us Only1 series – Wipe My Tears! The book was published in June 2013 – all intended to put all my books in one place for further references and for record purposes!

I have also included all those articles after end of my columns mainly based on ‘a Technicality’ that was designed to stop and to end my columns.

I was keeping to myself and trying to avoid conflict – but still people were after me! So I decided to accept the challenge – and write and record this book as last of my columns writings for future records and references.

No one can kill the spirit, soul and heart of a Writer – because so long as a Writer will live he will not stop writing!

As Jules Renard had said – No one considers a Writer as ridiculous – even if he does not make any money! So there! Besides, I had posted this in all The Social Media – November 13, 2014

Why are we so set against each other? We will support The Foreigner and The Expatriate but not esteem and value our own! We do not have trust and confidence on our own! It is part of this great CURSE Jealousy, Envy and Bad Hearts within us! Bad unfeeling uncaring hearts inside some of us only! Pure evil-like just as is ISIL!

  • It takes only one person to destroy the works that took so many others so many years to build – and we never learn until it is too late!
  • Do Not Cry It Is Over! Be Happy That It Has Happened!

Take Care!

HM Speech 2  Omani Faces - Toyota Omani Worker 1  Omani Worker 2 Omani Worker 3 Omani Worker 4

The Omani Youth Are Ready For Their Dutiful Roles and Responsibilities – if we allow them to!

For a long time now I have been concentrating on propagating my books – www.myownmajid.com – rather than commenting on the many articles that have appeared – especially in The English Press – as to Why The Omani Youth Are Not Employable (Into Jobs!). I said I will keep to myself – because for all my life I have been fighting against this theme and focus – and from The First Day I started working in Human Resources after my graduation in 1976! The same slogans – the same emphasis – nothing much has yet changed – despite us not ‘escaping The Arab Springs repercussions’!

What made me write this article today is what I saw an ‘Expert’ British Lady writing in one of The Websites that carried His Majesty Speech to The Omani People! Allah Give him quick recovery, long life and health – Ameen!

In this article this lady had given her opinion why Oman is in Trouble – because Omanisation has failed badly! It is surprising out there that everyone becomes an ‘Expert’ when it comes to ‘why the Omani Youth is NOT EMPLOYABLE in especially The Private Sector! I do not blame her – because even our Own Columnists say almost the very same things – with bits here and there in variations!

I read also of The Ministry of Information talking the Chief Editors of The Newspapers! Frankly, I think he needed to speak more to The English Press – where ‘The Indian Mafia’ et al reign supreme under the ‘watchful eyes of The Old Guards’ – some are not even in that category but more being weak, docile, gullible and naïve lots – rather than having any sort of political touch or bias!

So please forgive me as an ex now retired Human Resources Management Consultant, Professional, Expert and Advisor making my valid pertinent points! Besides, the fact that I published 4 Arab Management Books – (1) Psychology of Arab Management Thinking! – (2) A Cry For Help! – (3) Arab Management: Reality or Myth? The Arab Manager – and (4) The Arab Manager: The Call! – all in my books websites – www.myownmajid.com and www.myown-ebooks.com

I was also looking at LinkedIn and saw this Indian guy being promoted every time – and this time to Vice President of The Group! And that brings us to the subject matter of today! I have actually worked together with this gentleman! I will say this for him in truth and sincerity! He has the power and knack of bringing in money to the establishment – because he has many workable good ideas!

But if you ask me if I had my own Company – would I employ him? Money coming in or not – the answer is strong negative that I would not! Because he has the worst record of ‘negativity’ on The Omani Youth – and that stretches even to The Highly Qualified Omanis – because if he had his own way – and he was given Full Authority – NO OMANI WILL BE EMPLOYED BY HIM! Yet his Sponsors keep promoting him – and look at the other way – because he is bringing in money to the establishment! That is all that mattered here! Nothing less or more!

So please forgive me as I go along here!

I can only relate to things and aspects that I have personally experienced! If The Leadership out there are really interested, they should make someone to READ MY BOOKS – especially The Arab Management ones! They are full of Real True Examples of what is going on! Instead of sending the books as Complimentary Gifts to TOP VIPS – and there is ‘not even a slight humanity or decency’ of saying thanks for the gift – looking at a gift horse in the mouth! Why? Because deep down in their consciences and hearts – they know I am speaking the TRUTH ONLY!

They should actually translate the books – and make it Compulsory Reading – for everyone from a Director upwards in The Public Sector – and CERTAINLY even in its current forms to all The Top Management in The Companies – especially Those GMs and MDS in Oman over the last 25 years – and NOTHING has really changed on the ground – as far as they are concerned!

But then as we Arabs like to say – There is no one so blind but with eyes but cannot see; no one so deaf but with ears but cannot hear; and no one so dumb but with a mouth but cannot speak! Or as The Romans say – Those that the gods want to destroy – they make them not see, hear or speak!

Besides, the very pertinent and important point – even if I am not that right or correct in my views and assertions – or perhaps right in some but wrong in others etc. – His Majesty has personally allowed his citizens to have an Independent Thinking and Outlooks– as long as they are able to express their views and why they think so! As a Loyal Citizen, no one can deny me this Right – even if they had ‘killed’ my columns more on a Technicality rather than anything else!

Live Example One.

I wrote about this example before many times! Here was a young Omani Engineering Graduate Lady who was applying in one of the companies I was working as The Head of HR! She had a Degree in Project Management as her Specialisation – and from our own University in SQU. She was applying for a job as a ‘Secretary’ in one of the jobs that we were advertising! That is the point I want to make here. Usually these things are done by Recruitment – and though I had just taken over from an Indian guy – she too Indian was ‘running the show’ behind scenes – which I soon put an end to! You as The Omani HR Head MUST BE INTERESTED FIRST!

She was trying to arrange for a Trade Test in Secretary for The Applicants. I told her – I want to see this girl first! Why as an Engineer she is applying for a Secretarial Job? Typical of their lots she cracked jokes that maybe I was interested because she was pretty – or I know the family as she came from Nizwa? Near Manaa – where many Al Suleimanys came from! She was not Al Suleimany anyway!

When she came – I asked her point blank! Are you serious to apply for this job – yet an Engineering graduate? Shame! What she told me shook me to my very foundations – and I can assure you that I am largely built too! She told me – Her Professors had told her it will be easy to get a good Engineering job – even if she was a woman – because of her specialization! Yet she went to all The Construction and Project Offices companies – and they offered her only Admin, Clerical and Secretarial jobs. All these companies were Indian GMs Managed! One had even the audacity to want her syllabus of the University to see what ‘they teach’! These are the same companies that get always LARGE CONSTRUCTION JOBS from the Government – but taking a qualified educated Omani lady was an issue – because they wanted these jobs for their own home lots – unless there were isolated pressures now and then – and mainly from the outside!

I talked to my MD (Nice American Person) and we took her in Inventory Logistics as a Trainee – the nearest thing that was near Engineering! The point I am making here is ‘people need to be interested and to get involved’ – rather than ‘not wanting to rock the boat’ – or ‘wanting to look nice and good’ to especially ‘foreigners’ – he is our boy! Or girl!

The second incident is nearer home with the same outlooks. My daughter who had an Engineering Degree in Electronics and Electrical – and this time in UK!! Only The MOG companies are ‘more serious’ than the rest! In some of the Company Websites – the First Question is – Sex? Not the Indian joke one of 3 times a week? But real gender! If you reply Female – an Automatic Reply come up – Sorry! These jobs are only for Male Candidates – even The Project Jobs!

It is so easy to live in a fanciful world. By repeating lies over and over again, in the end people start to believe that ‘it is our Education System’ that is at fault! I would agree to a certain extent maybe there should be more emphasis on work attitudes, ethics and focuses – but blaming the Education System goes well to ‘satisfy the Mafias – mainly Indian led – with due apologies here – and certainly The Old Guards who want NO CHANGES – or Rocking The Boat!

I would recommend moving all those Expatriates in Top Positions who have been there for the last 20 years plus and bring in New Blood – if there are no Omani takers! But certainly MORE RISK TAKING of putting Omani ‘that care and feel for their own’ – and are also similarly inclined For More Risk Taking of their subordinate Omanis – and VALUE AND ESTEEM their own more – rather than putting candidates of ‘Our own Boys’ and Girls’ who will do our bidding – or do as we tell them to do!

Also it is High Time to stop all these advertisements in especially English Newspapers of Visitors looking for a job – and a Special Division be created that sends such Applicants back home for such visits under ‘guise of Tourism’ when actually they are coming here for jobs – and silly games being played to deny our own jobs because of such temporary filling of jobs by these lots!

I know I am burning my bridges behind me – and building more enemies at the same time! But no one can do these things except ourselves only! Please REMEMBER His Majesty is sick person – and we should not trouble him by these things that we can do ourselves as a start!

With sincere genuine apologies!

Heard of Murphy’s Law?

A Cry For Help  cropped-cropped-2-buo-st-231.png  Front Cover Arab Management cover-front

Anything that can go wrong will go wrong! An adage that was said to have originated from the 1950s! It was named after Captain Edward A. Murphy of the USA Air Force after a military project that went wrong and with his words about the involved Technician – If there is any way to do it wrong, he’ll find it!

You will excuse me because by now I should have learnt to keep my mouth shut! Because like I have said it many times before – It is just like banging my head against brick walls! You only make your head swollen and red – and there is simply nothing achieved except to be considered ridiculous contemptuous trouble only! Again! But you will forgive me – because I never learn my lesson – even after 12 books written and one correctly and rightly said in theme and focus as simply – A Cry For Help! Written long before the ‘troubles’ hit us – and we did not escape the onslaught!

Look at these examples and tell me what you think?

With due respects and apologies!

  • Please remove immediately my email address from your circulation list because this email is ONLY for Official uses!

This is from Senior Official in a big high prestigious corporate and in The Media Department as Head Section – because ‘he is not interested to keep knowing how my Road Safety Book (Arabic) is doing – though he was initially part of the team that supported the publication of the book – he perhaps ‘with feet being dragged’ in the process I would not know really.

I apologized profusely and said would do so! And unsaid that from now on would not be interested to send also to the private email given – ‘if you are interested’? No I am not – Sorry Sir for disturbing you, Sir?

What happened to the Delete Key – or marking email address as Junk so that you do not have even to see it – or just ignore and delete from This Sender?

  • Family members getting out from Family Whats Up group because of disagreement on minor issues – which all started with making satirical sarcastic remarks of an Elder who could even give birth to you by age – if he was a girl and married at puberty!

Of course there will be remarks to come of ‘why wash our dirty linen in public’? So to say! But it is not the first time it has happened here!

From the above a Professional Head who should encourage receiving information from Staff and ex Staff Retired also ‘asking for his email address to be removed’ – because he simply has no time to go through all the emails because ‘he is a very busy person’ per se!

Sorry Sir – Please accept my sincere and genuine apologies – will not do that in the future anymore! Sorry Sir! Will not trouble you ever again! In actual fact will not come to the place – even if you invite me to do so!

Again the Question – What happened to the Delete Key – or marking email address as Junk so that you do not have even to see it – or just ignore and delete from This Sender?

Frankly, nothing hurts me like receiving such mails! But God Is Great! Allah Kareem.

  • The (Indian) Dish Antenna paid till end of October 2014. Two days back they disconnect it – and the Technician (Indian also!) has still not turned up – because his Indian Boss (!) has not paid him – and ‘I could not be bothered – I do not care – report me to PACI! My daughter is sick – and I have no money to go the clinic!

His Indian boss has gone back home – again leaving mess all around! But do we Omanis learn? No – we are very polite and respecting peoples – it is all right ‘for them to shit on our heads’! Remember we are docile and weak? Even if more than 86% of Top GMs and Managers are Indians too – and their whole country is in a mess – but we want them instead to run our country for us! Please! Please!

We need The Marriage License? An Administrator in a Public Hospital to a Omani Mother and her pregnant sick bleeding teenage daughter – in fear of losing her baby! But they cannot find ‘the original’ to be produced! Only then will the Omani teenager be seen by a Doctor!

Is this in Occupied Gaza or Palestine? Or in Israel? No it is right here at home buddy!

Where are you? Sleeping? Don’t you hear me speak?

  • Polarisation differences because the Company Owner from another region will not pay the Consultant (that is me!) because the Indian GM was very rude – and decided to stop the work he was doing for them – even refused payment for the part already done!

Complained to The Big Company also where the contract is from – including copy to The High Official – but simply no takers.

More Serious Issues At Stake! Reply

September 3, 2014

AMMENDED

For Coming Week.

Between Us Only!

More Serious Issues at Stake!

There are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed! – Ray Goforth

Prayers 1  Prayers 2 prayers-3[1]

Images – Let Us Keep Praying! Ameen! Amen!

*** Introduction

It was a pleasant surprise – after the earlier third parties messages sent – that The Chief Editor had called me asking me ‘for a new page and in burying the hatchet – so to speak’ to ‘resume my articles’ – and his assuring comforting words to me that ‘you are an Omani Writer – this newspaper is Omani – and you are writing in your own country too!’ – So I have decided to accept the challenge in resuming it!

Surely out there – there will be quite a lot pleasantly surprised too – and even some saying ‘Oh No! Not Again?’ – But that is life for you – you simply cannot please everyone – and not everyone will like you either! Like I always say – What else is new? Frankly, I have been so much busy in The Social Media instead – and I even dare to say ‘to dangerous levels’! So the change to return to the Main Media is most opportune – and welcomed!

A         Nice To Be Back!

It feels nice now to be back here – as it has been quite a long time since I wrote anything in the esteemed newspaper in the format of any article. Frankly, I have been so much busy in The Social Media instead – and I even dare to say ‘to most dangerous levels’! So the change to return to the Main Media is most opportune – and most welcomed too!

It reminds me of a good friend of mine – a Pilot – whom I had queried a long time ago that as we landed in the Zanzibar small strip I thought I heard brakes as the plane was landing? I thought this was strange – because normally the brakes were being applied after the plane had gone to some distance – not as the plane as it was landing – and this is dangerous even to the layman! Metaphorically, when I used to write my columns I used to ‘apply the brakes’ so to speak as the plane was landing – but now in The Social Media I could write whatever I wanted – to a reasonable level of course!

One thing I have noticed lately – even at the home front that people are at ‘short fuse’ and ready to explode at any moment! My granddaughter was asking me why those ‘bad people were killing innocent children’ – and what have the children done to be killed and to be hurt by this? I cried when one of The Palestinian girls had her legs amputated – including of her mother too! – And poor she was asking her father when ‘When can I have my legs back, Daddy?’ – So heartbreaking and distressing! Sometimes those with children killed could even be classified ‘as luckier’ – than those with the injured and maimed for life children! Arab blood is not cheap as an Arab Leader had said. Another had said that we are ready to go back and ‘ride our camels’ – but is the West ready to do the same – if we ourselves burn all the oil wells to prevent them being taken over by our enemies?

Frankly, I think the World and the Religious Leaders need to sit together to make hard and difficult decisions – so as to save this world from man-made anarchies, calamities, disasters and pure evil – as like ‘letting the Genie out of the bottle’ – or ‘of opening a can of worms’ – so to speak! They have to start by correcting and rectifying all the past mistakes and errors of judgment – and to start in valuing human life equally wherever and whatever they are – devoid of race, religion, ethnicity and creed. Only then could there be hope for mankind!

B         Still On the Job Fronts!

This week there was a good article by one popular Omani Writer about (frightening!) issues in Recruitment of The Youngsters in The Jobs – and mainly related to ‘right training for the right jobs’ – men for jobs vis-à-vis jobs for men in Human Resources slang!

There was an irate letter by one well-meaning and well intentioned European Expatriate – trust them to be more on the frontline than the others! – and possibly drawn out of exasperation – that someone should tell The Youth that not everyone can be a Manager – or get a job in The Public Sector – because there are many vocational and craftsmen jobs out there still manned by expatriates that the Omani Youth can try to absorb and take over! Absolutely right he is – but we have been tuned not to hear and accept the inevitable ‘sort of bad news’ out there!

Then we had a Public Official admitting that ‘we are flexible with Omanisation in Construction Sector – because as it was put ‘Job Seekers are not willing to work as labourers …Omanis can be hired for administration work’! Why administration work – if not Supervisor of the Labourers etc. roles – once you have gone through as they say – from the mail room to the Top Executive – but you definitely need to start from the bottom – even if for a brief period – before you can climb up the hierarchical ladder!

Reminds me of my niece – yes niece! – in Tanzania driving a Caterpillar first time I met her years ago – and now she has moved up to be the Supervisor of the whole road gang! And the men do as they are told – despite occasional snide remarks – that you are a very forceful boss than the man who was there before you! Reminds me also of my Dodge Durango being surrounded by some youths in one interior office location I was doing some HR Consultancy jobs – and after sort of being chased and asked to stop by some youth in their pickup – ‘You are The Consultant! Where are the jobs?’ Next day I returned to Muscat – and thank God had not yet signed for the Temporary Contract per se!

C         Still Misbehaving ‘Invited Guests’ In The Land!

There was a letter sent to me by one very much upset Omani lady asking me to ‘put it in my newspaper column’ – and at the time I told her I did not have the columns anymore – but I will put it in my websites. Due to space constraints – please find the full article here – http://www.majidall.com/2014/08/27/misbehaving-expatriate-arab-women/ . Whatever the case the ‘more modern (foreign) Arab ladies’ were insulting ‘the intelligence’ of the ‘still backward Omani ladies’ – even if she was ‘advanced enough’ to take her children to a private swimming pool facility – on a ladies day only! – And our invited foreign ladies of Arab origin insisting on smoking in front of the children in a public place – with secondary smoking ‘as potential venom to the young children – many below 5 years of age!

D         Arab Management: Reality or Myth? The Arab Manager!

From C above, and moving to Local (mainly Young) Managers and Company Owners (also mainly young sudden riches!) – and their complete disrespect and contempt of more Senior by age, experiences, education and professions Locals – with the usual expatriates’ Mafias in conjunction with The Old Guards – that has been happening to me since my last column over 14 months ago! I did write the two Arab Management books – Psychology of Arab Management Thinking! And A Cry For Help! Long before the so-called Arab Springs hit us! But who cares? And who reads my books? Anyway, D above is my ‘Final Book in Arab Management’ and as a ‘Last Attempt and Desperate Hope’ that someone – especially in The Leadership – will at least read my books – even if not in agreement!

Images Rotten(Overripe)  Fruit – For Demonstration Purposes Only!

For those who do not know what it means, I know you are dying to let me tell you what it means, but have patience with me Dear Reader; because it is going to be clear in the next few sentences! I can assure you that it is Hindi, just in case you are wondering what it all means! And why not? After all, I have a great following in this group too!

You know those of us so-called Human Resources Professionals always say this thing – it is not the reasons given to you by a Staff who is leaving the establishment (mad house! Or one flew over the cuckoo’s nest!) That is valid and being more important but actually what was it that had prompted that person to start to look for another job in the first instance that is more important! Does not make any sense, or is the gist lost in its meanings? Let me explain.

In normal what they refer in Human Resources as an Exit Interview (let us ask you why you are leaving interview), the Staff may give a number of reasons why. For example the salary is higher being received in the new place. Perhaps and or fringe benefits and perks, or a higher more senior job even if sometimes there maybe no visible financial advantages per se (in some cases even losing out financially – but then you may be right in thinking that no ‘one is mad enough’ to do such a thing! You may be right too, but do not forget that there is a mad house out there too, and peoples are capable of doing the least and when expected syndromes too!). But then it is easy for us to judge as ‘outsiders’ and unless these things have happened to you or are happening to you now! Trust my word on it, I know I have been there too, in many times and too close for comfort either!

What I am trying to say here is this – as an establishment you need to find out what was it that had prompted that staff to apply outside in the first instance! It could be a small thing to the boss in charge and or to the establishment, but could be a major issue and or catastrophe to the Staff. For example when a Boss shouts and screams to a subordinate in front of his own peers and his own subordinates, what does this Boss expect? What do we have big rooms for Managers and Supervisors for? It is to use for privacy and discuss sensitive issues in the privacies of those rooms. Like a sceptic friend of mine would have remarked – The big rooms surely not for decoration, but for usage. He would go on to say – God gave you brains to use, and this too not for decorations!

It isn’t the 100th blow that knocks a good man down. It’s the 99 that went before: This is why people leave organizations – Azim Premji. – WHY EMPLOYEES LEAVE ORGANISATIONS? – (much of this article is based from that article) unquote.

The article goes on – Every company normally faces one common problem of high employee turnout ratio. People are leaving the company for better pay, better profile or simply for just one reason’ pak gaya !

Why do experienced, professional and talented employees leave despite a top salary?

The answer lies in one of the largest studies undertaken by the Gallup Organization. The study surveyed over a million employees and 80,000 managers and was published in a book called First Break All the Rules.

It came up with this surprising finding: If you’re losing good people, look to their immediate supervisor. More than any other single reason, he is the reason people stay and thrive in an organization.  And he’s the reason why they quit, taking their knowledge, experience and contacts with them. Often, straight to the competition.

People leave Managers not Companies,” write the authors Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman. “So much money has been thrown at  the challenge of keeping good people – in the form of better pay, better  perks and better training – when, in the end, turnover is mostly  Manager  issue.”

If you have a turnover problem, look first to your Managers.   Are they driving people away?

Beyond a point, an employee’s primary need has less to do with money, and more to do with how he’s treated and how valued he feels. Much of this depends directly on the immediate manager. And yet, bad bosses seem to happen to good people everywhere..

A Fortune magazine survey some years ago found that nearly 75 per cent of employees have suffered at the hands of difficult superiors. You can leave one job to find – you guessed   it, another wolf in a pin-stripe suit in the next one.

Of all the workplace stressors, a bad boss is possibly the worst, directly impacting the emotional health and productivity of employees. HR Experts say that of all the abuses, employees find public humiliation the most intolerable. The first time, an employee may not leave, but a Thought has been planted…

The second time that thought gets strengthened.  The third time, he starts looking for another job.  When people cannot retort openly in anger, they do so by passive aggression. By digging their heels in and slowing down. By doing only what they are told to do and NO MORE. This is done by omitting to give the boss crucial and very essential information.

That could impact and seriously jeopardize an organization. Have you seen this in real life? A new staff joins and is highly keen and motivated. He seriously and genuinely cares and feels for the organization. At the risk of his own job (remember probation and can be terminated in a week’s notice at the least?) he speaks his mind in order to try to rectify, remedy and correct a situation. His peers look up at him in disdain, cynicism and even bordering contempt – in their hearts they say we have seen and heard these all over before (so what else is new?). In the end another (new) frustrated, de motivated, dehumanized Staff hits the dust! Another casualty figure to contend!

That is Paak Ghaya, or in Hindi – over ripe fruit, cannot be eaten anymore!

It is said“If you work for a jerk, you basically want to get him into trouble.  (The sooner the better!) You don’t have your heart and soul in the job”. The day he leaves, there is a BIG CELEBRATION party the villain has gone, no more trouble, no more pain, no more suffering. Until the new Manager has come in ‘with a new broom sweeping better’ – unless and until that is he starts to behave like his old peer again (Remember Animal Farm?).

Different Managers can stress out employees in different ways – by being too controlling, too suspicious, too pushy, too critical, too manipulative (divide and conquer syndrome, even if it is the establishment that eventually suffers!) – but they forget that workers are not fixed assets, they are free agents. When this goes on too long, an employee will quit – often over seemingly trivial issue.

It isn’t the 100th blow that knocks a good man down. It’s the 99 that went before. And while it’s true that people leave jobs for all kinds of reasons- for better opportunities or for circumstantial reasons, many who leave would have stayed – had it not been for one man constantly telling them, as Arun’s boss did: “You are dispensable. I can find dozens like you.”

While it seems like there are plenty of other fish especially in today’s waters, consider for a moment the cost of losing a talented employee. There’s the cost of finding a replacement.

The cost of training the replacement. The cost of not having someone to do the job in the meantime. The loss of clients and contacts the person had with the industry. The loss of morale in co-workers. The loss of trade secrets this person may now share with others.

Plus, of course, the loss of the company’s reputation. Every person who leaves a   corporation then becomes its ambassador, for better or for worse.

We all know of large IT companies that people would love to join and large television companies few want to go near. In both cases, former employees have left to tell their tales. “Any company trying to compete must figure out a way to engage the mind of every employee,

Jack Welch of GE once said.   Much of a company’s value lies “between the ears of its employees”.  If it’s bleeding talent, it’s bleeding value.

Unfortunately, many senior executives busy traveling the world, signing new deals and developing a vision for the company, have little idea of what may be going on at home. That deep within an organization that otherwise does all the right things, one man could be driving its best people away.

Next time you as the Manager or Supervisor feel like screaming and shouting at that Staff of yours – THINK AGAIN. As I said before – God gave you brains to use, and this too not for decorations!

The Prophet (SAW) warned against envy by comparing it to fire that completely burns the wood. He (SAW) said: “Beware of jealousy, for verily it destroys good deeds the way fire destroys wood.” [Abu Dawood] Hasaad (Jealousy / Envy) is a disease of the heart and it causes impurity to the heart, when Allah’s Messenger (SAW) was asked who are the best of people? He (SAW) replied: “the one with a clean heart and truthful tongue.” They asked: ‘We understand a truthful tongue, but what does a clean heart mean?’ he answered: ‘It is the heart of one that is pious, pure, and is free of sin, transgressions, hatred and Hasad.” [Ibn Majah]

An African President – just after Independence from the colonial masters – was ‘teasing’ his congregation that the local ‘mentality and outlook’ that anything good must be ‘British – English’ and anything bad local!

For example?

Sad and Tragic!

A big rooster (chicken) must be an ‘English Chicken’ – thus ‘English orange’ – English mango (!) etc.! But there was no ‘English Cockroach’ – ‘English scorpion’ etc. – these were only local ones!

A question of mentalities and outlooks!

There is also this issue that some elements – perhaps more because of their backgrounds or perhaps sources support – think that they ‘know everything!’ and that they are better than everyone else and that they have more rights too! These people will never change – until it is too late for them – and everybody else too for that matter!

Holier Than Thou! 1

For Wednesday – April 24th 2013.

Between Us Only!

Holier Than Thou!

Whosoever has in his heart, even a atom of pride he will not enter paradiseThe Islamic Hadith

Holier Than Thou – being self-righteousness – is a feeling or display of – usually smug – moral superiority derived from a sense in one that one’s beliefs, actions, or affiliations are of greater virtue and importance than those of the other person. It is the acting like one is superior to others, condescending, patronising, belittling and ridiculing others! Always exhibiting an attitude of being superior – of being virtuous; self-righteous and in being pious compared to the others. Like riding that high horse – looking down on people – and with their heads in the clouds attitudes, approaches and focuses.

Proud 1

Images For Demonstration Purposes Only!

People will simply not change in this. This is a very big disease in society now – has always been – and will continue to be! With a few Baizas more in their pockets – people always change for the worse – not for the better. If there is one subject and topic that I have covered intensely – than this is one of them! 10 years later after my first column – and still writing on the very same topic now!

That tells and says a lot of things! Will people change? I do not think so – even if bad things will happen to them! Once they are back and have recovered – they are back again! Just the same way we drive! After seeing a nasty accident – we drive carefully – only to revert to our old selves – after some time – and distance! The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story – though Mr. Hyde always wins!

Holier Than Thou

I will agree with you fully that it is easy to preach – to practise is something else! Frankly, during to my heyday – when I started my consultancy business – and business was booming – I was accused by a family member that with my powerful SUV I was threatening a small saloon car full of youngsters – who had cut in front of me – and were joking and laughing aloud – that they had beaten me to the only left car park slot – though I had already indicated I was turning into it! Last two weeks I was laughing to myself – because this same person who was able to get a similar powerful SUV was doing the very same thing this time – only this time it was on a high way. I looked at him – and smiled – but said nothing! Why do so – when I needed the ride?

Conceited

Sometimes people think that because they have been working for so long at a certain place – then they have become indispensable and irreplaceable! They think no one or anything can touch them. Especially if it is in a field that their services are really needed. It applies to both locals and expatriates – in rare cases even to those on visit visas – but do temporary and consultancy works in between. Or doing jobs that should by laws and regulations be done by locals – but instead they are occupying the positions!

Arrogant 2

Even if there are no such laws or regulations – but common sense and logic just dictates that these jobs must be done by the locals themselves! For their own protection, preservance – loyalty, well-being – and future, destiny and legacy. I really admire those countries that were (or still are) under boycotts – despite all odds they are still able to survive – and continue to produce – simply because they put their own people – first and foremost – and paramountly too!

Though I was a citizen in that distant land – but they had removed me from my first assignment to the more sensitive position in the Defense Department – because at that particular time – they were not sure of my loyalties – and compounded after the bloody Zanzibar Revolution sagas – and its aftermaths! They transferred me to the lesser Ministry of Finance – where I was seen as a ‘lesser risk’. Yet I handed the job over with no grudges – because though did not agree with them – could not blame them even! We do not do these things in Oman – though some may tend to argue privately and in confidence. Whatever the case – we need – there is need now – to prioratise – because of changing loyalties, affiliations, associations and allegiances!

Arrogant 1

Images For Demonstration Purposes Only!

I am talking here more on expatriates in such sensitive strategic positions more – unless there are real identified practical and needed reasons for continuing in keeping them in those positions. Last two weeks, I read a letter from an irate Omani youngster – who is Media qualified – but still looking for a job – whilst we have so many expatriates in these positions. I got an email from a highly qualified Omani young girl – and still looking for a job two years on. She either gets ridiculous offers from not only expatriates – but from our own – afraid that this girl may prove to be a high flier – and their future boss even! How long will this antipathy and indifferences continue? I ask you?

A lot of good things have been done – and are still being done! A few years back I was stuck in a traffic jam with my then American CEO. As we watched – we saw two delegations from two opposing different countries pass in front of us. The good man remarked – You should be proud you are Omani! This is the only country around that can talk to both sides! I held back a tear – because who cares? It will just be wasted – again!

Unless and until, we do identify the ‘Old Guards’ in our midst – and start releasing them off for early retirements for example – things will just not move forward. There has to be meeting of the minds for things to move. In my earlier articles – I cautioned about ‘The Insiders’ that are people that are careful to oversee that nothing has changed – or moved forward. These are like the ‘cancerous cells’ in our body – and must be treated and or be removed – either tactfully and diplomatically – or in other ways and methods – if there is simply no changes!

And things have first to start with these characteristics of being holier than thou’ – or we can do whatever we want – because we are needed – and nobody or nothing can touch us!

Omanisation – At The Crossroads! Reply

Between Us Only!

Omanisation  –  At The Crossroads!

I have to admit in writing this I was very much perturbed and disturbed by one ‘friend’ telling me to stop writing any further because you are ‘just exposing yourself to unnecessary situations’ – and besides ‘you have said it yourself that you are tired banging your head against brick walls – and just having your head swollen and red in the whole process per se’!

 Omani Faces - Toyota

Toyota Advert

But then there were others encouraging me not to despair – surrender and give up – because we need people like you to still be able to speak out and say the truth – however bitter and ugly that we do not want to hear and or accept! Please continue to act as our ‘Conscience-Keeper’ – and keeping things from sliding down further in ‘this dark alley’ – and then we all end as Losers. If you have heard of the story of The Father, The Son and The Donkey – they were going to sell! – you will probably get the gist of the meaning of what I am trying to say here – so please bear with me – and as a citizen I think I have the right to say what I feel and what my views are!

First of there is need to say this thing that has come out in The Society now! We are part of the global village and whatever happens in other parts of the world – especially nearer the home – we cannot isolate ourselves from the rest of the world in things and events catching up with us! We still have the ‘Old Guards’ in our midst that want no changes – and even if they are a few – but still are powerful and influential – especially when ‘the element of fear the change, unknown and untested’ still crops in and overrides!

I have written so many articles on all the above and even in a desperate and last attempt in writing the book A Cry For Help! – published in September 2009 – well before all the troubles hit us in The Arab World. But I was branded all types of names and colours – and I never ever again got a HR job that lasted more than 3 months – because being already a sick person with acute diabetic case – high blood pressures and eyes problems it was not worth me continuing to tag and struggle along – because as the Brits say ‘ ‘if you cannot stand the heat – quit whilst you still can’!.

And to quit I have done – even if it was just as quick as 18 minutes to pack my things – and leave the Offices in that time! Even if this time are fellow Omanis as my Top Bosses – but then they are unsure of themselves – and have many Advisors – many of them anti-me expatriates – with long elephant memories!

Recently, I have again been perturbed and greatly disturbed to read articles talking about grand generalizations of The Omani Youth and The Applicant. Forget me that was born outside – but my parents and elders were all born in Oman – including grandparents! Including my children and grandchildren! I do not know of any other place that is home except this one – that took me in as a refugee under United Nations – returning home to our family ancestry – and giving me a passport that I am very proud and esteemed of. His Majesty Accession was the silver lining in the storm – after our families lost heavily in the bloody revolution – and the massacres and ethnic cleansing that followed!

You will, therefore, no doubt appreciate why I am a keen advocate and pusher from day one for Omanisation – Youth Recruitment – Training and Development!

Though my future prospects and career were much tarnished and damaged by not ‘towing the line’ – like others did – but frankly I have no regrets to date – and even if my life were represented – I would still do ‘the very same things – all over again’!

In one of the funerals I had attended some 30 years ago – I wrote about this! – There were these people from one Office cursing the boss who had just died – and still warm and not buried yet! It made my flesh crawl – and I could not believe my ears! When I queried them – then why did you come to the funeral – they retorted something about being forced by the Management to come – but if they had their say – they would rather go home – and watch television!

I wondered to myself why there would be so much hatred and animosity – to the extent ‘that he is now going to burn in his grave to eternal damnation’! As a HR Professional – that made me so scared – but it was a great learning point and lesson to me on life – and life’s aspects!!

In another funeral gathering some years later –  I saw men over forties actually crying – because ‘the good boss had died – and who will look after us now? I was then so elated and felt great that though I was losing money heavily in my job career and future – but Thank God – I was in the right track – at least!. I would prefer this – than being cursed –  even at death!

You may well ask why I am worried – again? From what I can read of people making generalized statements – and branding everything under one colour – rather than the rainbow and other colours – it is very scary and frightening! I have this fear that what people are writing is for the particular interests and welfare of ‘some die-hard old guards’ that do not want to change with the times – even if they would plummet us all into this decadence, malaise and decay of darkness and uncertainties – and we have still not learnt from what we see live being played out in the Television and Media news!

Admittedly it is true that even in each basket there are bad eggs (fish) – but unfair, unethical, unprofessional and unprincipled generalizations of the whole lot is unjustified and unfair!

Like I have also said many times before – the expatriate here is under natural pressures to outdo and outperform the adversary competition in local recruitment – otherwise there are no considerations, sympathy or patience for him – but the same guy can easily disappoint you easily – when he is back at his home relaxed environment.

Besides, the point also that we are a young nation – just 50 years old – and still evolving and changing to catch up with the rest of the world – and even our own neighbours. Trust me – I am not an Apologist for lower standards, quality and complacency – and I do not also believe in window dressing – patch-up repair works either.

But there sure is far more room for so much further changes and improvements – and further calculated risk taking. I was really scared to hear why the Teenagers prefer public jobs than private – but the ‘real excuses give’ are just doubtful and do not hold any credible evidence and proof – because there is far more than meets the eye here!

Admittedly it is true we have some issues and problems still – but I believe they are exaggerated and blown out of proportions!

Maybe some people should read (again?) my two books in Arab Management – Psychology of Arab Management Thinking and A Cry For Help! I think it is all in there! But I still stand corrected – with provided credible proof and evidence! See www.myown-ebooks.com – with sincere apologies!

The future belongs to these youth – and for their destiny, legacy and destiny – even if there will be a lot of errors and mistakes – before we reach our final destination – goals, targets and focuses – Amin Amen The time to do that is now – not after! History and future generations will judge us by what we do now – not do or even any inaction.

The Aftermath! By – Majid Al Suleimany Reply

For Wednesday August 1st 2012

My Website – http://www.majidall.com

At My Workplace (Outlook)!

The Aftermath!

After my last week article titled “Living together as one in peace and harmony!” – I had received considerable responses in my websites – including some personal Emails and Messages. Overall, there was support and allegiances in what was written. I found very encouraging some responses sympathizing and in support coming also from broad minded objective pragmatic and secular foreigners too! Oman was indicated as an example and a ‘beacon of hope’ for mankind of how people can live together as one in peace, love and harmony – and the respects and esteem given to foreigners in the country!

However, like in most cases, there were some dissenting forces and I find the following as one of the strongest. As an Administrator of my own blogs, I do accept that the names given are ‘perhaps not that real’ – but this does not bother me at all – as I look more on content than who is sending it!

One of the contributors had said – Quote – Message: I have read some of the articles. The best part I mostly enjoy is that you write from the bottom of your heart. All the information is based on your 35 years of experience and not from stories told by friends or read from books.

Your writing skills are excellent. I pray to ALLAH INSHALLAH you succeed in your dreams and that day where all positions are filled with qualified Omanis only. Your are one of the very few Omanis who disclose the pain we Omanis endure because of the expatriatesunquote.

In my book A Cry For Help! – http://www.myown-ebooks.com – see above image – I have highlighted the problems and issues being faced by especially qualified and educated young Omanis – especially when they want to join – or are accepted in ‘by a pointing barrel of a gun’ to take them in’ so to speak – excuse the melodrama! Even qualified and fully experienced Omanis for that matter too!

That is why I wrote the book – so my conscience can be clear and clean that I have done my part in saying it ‘as it is’! The rest is not upto me!

After the book was published – it was the last time that I received any job offers – even temporary and or consultancy – and any that I received after that did not last much longer – and I was a victim of my own situation and circumstances. Sadly and tragically from even fellow Omanis GMs and others – because they are susceptible to receive the advices and counsels of the ‘active foreign hands’ – so to speak!

It is a double-edged sword that cuts both ways – but the future for sure is for the young Omanis in their destiny, legacy and future – whether this is accepted or not – does not matter!

In one well known case what I thought was a friend and whom I had confided on my misgivings – was God Forgive me in this Holy Month of Fasting – perhaps instrumental after him meeting with this GM I knew well before – and as already said in my columns to leave within half an hour with the ultimatum given to continue in that place. I need money for sure – but respects and esteem more!

Though truthfully only some of the ‘bad eggs (fish)’ are only few expatriates – but the majority are also indifferent and may even be supportive on the sidelines – as they seem to think this will work for them to their advantages. Let us not forget also the die-hards old guards in Top Management – and Owners – especially family-run – but sadly can even go across to bigger and National places – that these things should not happen – or allow to happen!

In one of the places where a family member was looking for a visa for even business travel – not holidays – an Official sarcastically asked him if ‘you belong to that guy who seems to write a lot in newspapers? Actually it is only one newspaper – but people can be free to say what they want – especially when they think they are in-charge and in-control! I had a good mind to go and meet him – but then I remembered I had better things to do – than bang my head against brick walls!

I am still that much sure and convinced that a time will still yet to come and to pass when people will wish they had been more fair, professional and ethical towards me. Hopefully before I die! But after my books – and seeing all the things happening around us – when one or two send me messages like above – I believe my work has been done – and my conscience is now clear.

Even the book on Road Safety – Behind The Wheel! – with just few exceptions – took a beating. Yet we all know how bad the state of driving has become – and the increased road accidents, tragedies and fatalities – yet a noble and National worthy cause too – but still targeted and singled out for sure! Simply because if this book will be a success – people might want to read my other books – where they are most targeted!

What more I can say now?
