The Joy of   Being Happy!

What is being happy is all about?

April 17, 2018

The other day I was complaining bitterly about my Mobile Phone that I needed now to charge it almost two to three times a day! Overheard by my daughter – she suggested to have the phone battery changed – as it was a very old model Samsung Note 4 – it was struggling hard to keep up with the latest versions, media and technology!

Then the miracle came into being – after just a mirage in the horizon! My daughter bought for me the latest Samsung S9 Plus! An old PDO Retiree Pensioner has never been so much happier – albeit so many upsets and downs recently for even wanting basic things in life – which are available to many others – or at least should be available – but then everybody wants to show off their powers and control elements on others – as has been the life that we are facing nowadays!

When I was studying in UK in the 1970s I got my UK Driving License and instead of using the efficient reliable public transport services – I wanted to climb the social ladder me too! Why be left out in the ‘rat race’? So I looked around for an affordable old banger of a car! I found one Morris 1300 belonging to an old lady!

She wanted Sterling Pounds 200 for it (about Omani Rials 120 I think!). The car was a Morris 1300 – see the image! Seeing me hesitating – she came down to Pounds 150. She was so happy – poor lady – when I said I will take it! She admitted to me that she originally had wanted 250 Pounds – but was afraid it would have put me off! Yes I know the left hand should not know what the right hand was giving! So I gave her what she originally wanted – and was she much happier after that!

It was a very old British car powerful and strong. Proved its mantle when one day I hit the house gates with just a minor scratch! Typical Quality British car! But one funny anecdote was if you were reversing you needed to pull a knob at the dashboard for reverse light to come on! Many times I was reprimanded by The British Traffic by driving with the reverse knob still on and not pushed back!

Images For Demonstration Purposes only!  From the first car Morris 1300   to Toyota Crown to my last one the Yukon GMC Truck!

When I started working in PDO as Senior Staff I bought at the time a Toyota Crown – see image! If you had asked me – I would have told you the Morris 1300 had made me so much happier than buying the luxury Toyota Crown! And even lesser happier than later cars I bought later in life – much more expensive and luxurious – including the famous Yukon GMC Truck case story lately!

When I was working in HR in one of the companies – the American CEO told me – Majid I want you to make the Staff feel happy to come to work and not that the only reason that they come to work is to take care of their families and pay off bills! I want that to be a priority in your HR Tasks and Targets – and portfolio! The other day I met one of the Staff – and she told me – Mr. Majid – we still remember you by your ordering vegetarian food – and keeping it separate from the rest of the food! Our own HR Director before – a non-practicing person never ever even bothered! It made a lump in my mouth!

You would think the riche folks are happier than us the rest of us – but they are not! Some of them spend the whole night pacing up and down – scared stiff that they may loose and become poor! I read this article of what looked like a poor shepherd – but the local man – after he had died – had so much money hidden in the shed – lucky for him the goats did not find them and ate them – as they are well known to chew even cardboard boxes! What is the point of having so much money hidden and being so miserly in life – just to have the feeling and power of owning money and riches?

You find in life so many people still smiling and happy faces despite so many issues and problems! They are struggling hard in life to survive and manage with the little they have but you will find them still cheerful jovial and happy! Then there is that lots of like us where small issues and problems are blown out of proportions – with some not really major issues that are facing them in life!

I know this from my relatives in Tanzania – by a far wider margin and level they are much happier! I remember this ugly incident when one of the relatives fired back at me when I asked her why she cooked so much food in the lunch times and letting others local partake the food! Far lesser incomes and levels than them as their contributions to solve the hunger issues! She was shocked by my outlook that she was struggling still in life – but was ready and willing to share whatever they had with the others lesser fortune! An awakening up call to the rest of us – considering ourselves more fortunate!

We were building a Masjid Mosque in Mafia Island in Tanzania and this sort of rich friend called me – I have got very good news for you! Come to the Office to collect! I was so excited and thrilled when he gave me the envelope! Afraid till I reached home I opened it to find OMR 20 inside after all the excitements! Mind you whatever contribution should be accepted and acknowledged – but from this rich person (happier person?) I was expecting much more!

How many of us have richer family and friends but when you are in trouble they will not raise a finger to help you – even if you are in extreme dire straits! Do not tell me – I have been there – and still there – but no one will help you by their stinginess bad hearts and lack of care and feelings for anyone even family but just want to check daily their Bank Accounts balances! Comes here the famous King Alexander Last Words (you can google it!)

I remember the case alsowhen I was collecting funds to make a farewell party for one British Staff leaving PDO after many years of services! This was an Expatriate who stood and fought for ‘Omani issues and cases’ well beyond the call of duty! It was agreed that for the Junior Staff they should contribute OMR 5 – and for the Senior Staff like us – OMR 10!

When I went to my Director he told me – take OMR 5 and ‘get out of my office – I do not want to see your ugly face here’ – how locals can be cruel and cutting to each other is totally another issue! With much more received income plus Company car and accommodation – he should have been more generous – but he was not! He retorted to me – I am not paying anyone more than 5 Rials for anyone leaving the company – whether local or expatriate! Who will pay for me when I leave? – were his words!

Yet at the same time there were more Junior Staff levels who were paying much more! Happier people? In Swahili they say – Kutoa ni moyo! The giving is from the heart! Not being rich or poor! There is also Kuchonga Uso! Carving your face! That is when ou go to ask for help fro richer peope (happier people supposed to be!0 – and they let you down badly! They will not even answer your phone – and ignore you if they see you outside! AL HAMDU LILLAH!

They say if you can eat at least once a day, have a roof over your head and have shelter and security you should remain and be happy always! Our Late Father – PBUH – used to tell us – Just do not compare and contrast with those ahead of you – but look at so many that are behind you in lots in life! He was drawing of when going to Dubai from Muscat – look at those still in Rustaq compared to yourself already in Sohar – be whatever car that you are driving!

Some students had approached the President then of one Third World Country that they were going to school without shoes! So he asked them to follow him! They all thought they were getting shoes – and he led them to a Leper Colony where people really wished they had feet – let alone shoes! This highly charged emotional film demonstrates well the point! A Short Film – The Other Pair! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkWdyZFyvO8

I hope you had enjoyed the article! If you did ask The CEO Oman Daily Observer why they killed off The Columns – Between Us Only! On a Technicality!

The question still remains – Are you happy? Think again before you answer!

The Tanzanian (African) Housemaids Syndromes! Reply

The Tanzanian (African) Housemaids Syndromes!

May 5, 2017

The Tanzania Woman Image!

I was planning to write this article in Swahili but half way I got stuck – because the Swahili I know and speak out is outdated model 2003 when I left Tanzania to return to Oman! There are a lot of new words now being used in Swahili – so sometimes you have to listen carefully to get the gist of the meaning – or ask the Speaker what the new words mean?

One of the topics that I had covered intensively in the start of my columns Between Us Only! in The Oman Daily Observer from January 2003 on wards to 12 years later was the topic of Housemaids! My first articles also in my first book Between Us Only! was also The Happy Housemaid! See image!

I do not consider myself as an Expert or Consultant on the topic! All I know is that we have a Filipino housemaid who has stayed with us for the past 22 years – and we consider her as family more than housemaid – even if she is Christian – but is more Islamic to many people that I know off! We in the Family have also recently like the trend have also started to take in Tanzanian Housemaids from both Mainland and also from Zanzibar! Years have passed – but still yet have not faced any issues! There are also from both Kenya and Uganda in East Africa for that matter!

There was a case, however, when one of them had forgotten her place ‘as Familiarity Breeds Contempt Scenario’ when she mistook the friendliness – and speaking to her in Swahili ‘that there was no boss formal role between us – but that was soon taken care of very soon afterwards! That is also how human nature is always!

Anyway, there is this audio that is going viral in The Social Media where purportedly this Tanzanian housemaid residing in Oman has gone on the air using very nasty foul filthy language insulting her bosses – especially The Omani Ladies without exception – and cursing Oman and Omanis. I would not like to repeat what she says – but you can get hold of it and listen to it if you know Swahili! If you do not know frankly I feel there would be very few willing to translate it to you by the very bad filthy foul language used!

Frankly, I would advise The Authorities to trace the audio and let her prove the allegation that a Tanzanian housemaid ‘was indeed murdered’ by her Omani lady boss – because the maid was very sick but the bosses refused her to go for medical treatment – and still forcing her to work despite her being very sick as it is! How she died is a bit vague – but this is what prompted this person to use foul filthy language against her Omani bosses!

The concept that if one apple (fish) is bad does not mean that the whole bag contents are bad seems to have deluded and missed her! Of course in each basket there are bad apples (eggs/fish) – that one cannot either deny – and it works on both sides of the equation (side!) for that matter!

Use of foul filthy language does not solve anything – it just portrays what type of a person you are whatever and however angry you maybe! It only makes a bad situation even to get more worse – it helps no one and it does not solve anything! In actual fact, as they say in both Swahili and in Arabic you have caused ‘fitna’ (friction discord fight enmity etc.)!

The Holy Quran and The Hadith are both very clear on how to treat the workers with us – and that treating even one slightly bad would invalidate all the otherwise good deeds you have performed in life – even opening for you the doors of Eternal Fire starting in your grave before The Day of Judgement Reckoning when you meet Allah SWT – and that too when you escape The Punishment on Earth – with the great Islamic Principle of ‘Being Bankrupted’ against your judgement in front of Allah SWT!

In one of The Hadiths Abdulla bin Umar RA narrates – When someone asked Nabii Muhammad SAW – How often was one expected to overlook his slave’s faults he was replied – after some silence and repeat of the question – Seventy times in a day!

Most of these housemaids (houseboys / drivers) driven by poverty more than anything else have left their homes family and country to come and look after you and your children and family! Just as you would not like your Office boss to mistreat insult you – the same ethic, principle etc. applies to you in your handling and dealing with those working for you!

And you more the housemaid than anything else for that matter should appreciate and value your job – as it more than take cares and looks after your own family back home! My housemaid with the years with us has built even a villa for her mother back home in Philippines!

There have been issues too with housemaids from other countries – but the East African one has taken up a nasty sour turn that may develop – if one is not careful – to sour relations of ties that have been historical since ages!

Day before yesterday a family member who had promised me some funds to send to build a Masjid Mosque was lamenting to me loudly why he should continue ‘when these people have still hatreds for us Omanis – and see how they think of us and curse us like this? I retorted to him – Brother this is only one ‘irate lady’ – but now how many audios are circulating from Tanzanian housemaids praising and justifying Omanis as good decent kind caring people – as we have always have known to be – despite some issues and problems here and there!

A Joint Investigation should be held between Oman and Tanzania on The Plight of The Housemaids and on The Purported Death Case if is true – and the culprits to be brought to justice – as we always do to Protect The Workers and in Human Rights!

Take Care!

ADDED POINTS!

Be Merciful for Allah SWT to be Merciful to You!

“Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.” [Muslim]

“He who does not show mercy shall see no mercy (from his Lord).” “Allah is not merciful to him who is not merciful to men.”

Debt: Relieving the person in debt

Abu Qatadah related that the Prophet said: If anyone would like Allah to save him from the hardships of the Day of Resurrection, he should give more time to his debtor who is short of money, or remit his debt altogether. (Muslim)

Relatives who are needy!

Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet said: The best charity is that which is practiced by a wealthy person. And start giving first to your dependents. (Bukhari)

Salman ibn Amer reported that the Prophet said: To give something to a poor man brings one reward, while giving the same to a needy relation brings two: one for charity and the other for respecting the family ties. (Ahmad, Ibn Majah, Nasai, Tirmidhi)

Stinginess

Jabir reported that the Prophet said: Avoid doing injustice to others, for on the Day of Judgment, it will turn into manifold darkness, and safeguard yourself against miserliness, for it ruined those who were before you. It incited them to murder and treating the unlawful as lawful. (Muslim)

One Hadith in particular that underscores this message comes from a collection called An-Nawawi:

Whosoever removes a worldly grief from a Believer, Allah will remove from him one of the griefs of the Day of Judgment. Whosoever alleviates [the lot of] a needy person, Allah will alleviate [his lot] in this world and the next. Whosoever shields a Muslim, Allah will shield him in this world and the next. Allah will aid a slave [of His] so long as the slave aids his brother.

The Fear of Failing! Reply

The Fear of Failing!

February 11, 2017

I wrote this article 2 years ago! It became like an omen a prophecy of what happened to me later in a space of a year – falling first into a coma state in Royal Hospital whilst I was in ICU this bank and an Omani Court had placed a case against me for my Consultancy that had gone bankrupt bust 15 years ago in 2001!

Nothing has changed much in Oman – and still happening to date!

If The Leadership are real serious – they need to read this article as a start!

Between Us Only!

The Fear of Failing!

  • Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently! – Henry Ford
  • Success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives – Michelle Obama
  • Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm – Winston Churchill

I was talking to my children and The Younger Generation born post 1970s after HM Ascension and trying to convince them that the time was ripe and opportune for them to go into business – as there were great support now for being Self Employed and for SMEs! I reminded them of HE Dr. Sunaidy’s great offerings like being paid within 28 days; the great financial support from RAFD and others; reserved 10% slot for Public Contracts; relaxation of Omanisation for 2 years amongst many others! But yet people are still reluctant to go ‘the route of SMEs’ – and I tried to find out more from them for the reasons why?

One of the major fears and concerns that they have in their young minds is ‘in making it to be successful in their business endeavours’ – and the requirements for them to be fully involved and occupied in their businesses. That is in losing their jobs and confirmed incomes – and in trying something different – and certainly more scary and fearsome! The start and the middle going parts are the more easier ones – but the ending and final parts scare them to pieces! What if I fail? What will happen to me? What will happen to people owing me money? Especially The Banks and The Lenders?

They have seen what can happen to their elders ‘that have failed in businesses’ – even if it was unplanned and as a result of conditions inadvertently beyond their conditions – like bidding for a contract and getting it – but your estimates for the bid turns out by hidden or unexpected turn of events costs to be far much more than you had tendered for or realised in expectations – which has happened many times in reality and as a matter of fact.

There is also this element that ‘people dread to touch getting into SMEs businesses ‘even by a long pole’ is the stereotyping of local companies – even more worse for SMEs! Unfortunately and sadly too by our own Stakeholders and Decision Makers in undercutting and failing to ‘value and recognise’ our own capabilities, potentials, skills and talents!

Also it has been known and to also be practicised even too – that we are very hard and rigid on our own – but can turn ‘the other cheek’ and be more flexible and open to Outsiders – even more to The International ones! Sadly, the same Job Scope and Tasks they can expect (and do receive many times!) to get even 3 or 4 times the amounts that the local companies or SMEs can ever hope to receive! We fail dismally to value and esteem our own more – and this ‘disease’ is what is killing people to venture out into business – the ‘disease of envy, jealousy and polarisation’ even!

But that is not the only scary part! The more scary part ‘is if you finally fail’! All hell is let loose – and even your ‘own personal freedom and movement’ is at risk – in addition to facing so many legal and other issues too! You cannot try to convince people – despite all the talk and rhetoric – because they have seen it still happen to their parents, family and elders! That at the time when ‘you most need help and from The Banks’ – they abandon you one by one!

I have always made this joke about someone with a big tray of meat (chicken, fish) Biriyani with him – yet he wants a small bite and share of you with a small plate of sandwich (samosas) – and he is not ‘happy with you if you deny him the indulgence’ – people who have already made it and rich enough just do not let things go ‘with wandering eyes’ of what more they could have – and if you are disagreeable or not forthcoming to share – they can make things pretty awkward, hard and difficult for you – to start the spiral of going out of control and eventually in making wrong decisions to start losing and in failing! You never know what is out there – and what can happen!

My advice and counsel to The Younger Generations is still to try to go into SMEs and give it your best shot – and do not be scared by failing – because it is a way of learning to do things better in another way. Wishing you all the very best!

Karma – No Need for Revenge for Now! Reply

Karma – No Need for Revenge for Now!

karma-watch

lotus

Lotus flower represents Karma!

Karma is considered as the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences. It is the destiny or fate, following as effect from cause! For example if you did good things in your life – you may return as a bird or butterfly. However, if you did bad things, you will return as a scorpion or snake!

Karma also refers to the spiritual principle of cause and effect where intent and actions of an individual (cause) influence the future of that individual (effect). Good intent and good deed contribute to good karma and future happiness, while bad intent and bad deed contribute to bad karma and future suffering.

Karma is closely associated with the idea of rebirth reincarnation in many schools of Asian religions. In these schools, Karma in the present affects one’s future in the current life, as well as the nature and quality of future lives!

It is said – There is – No need for revenge. Just sit back and wait. Those who hurt you will eventually screw up themselves, and if you’re lucky, God will let you watch.

Thus Do Not Regret that you have been helpful and of great assistance that you have done something good for someone – but he has not only forgotten – but also mocks and ridicules you in addition.

His due Karma time will come – and you just sit back and watch!

Allah God Almighty Lord Give us courage and stamina to continue doing good deeds – and not give up – Ameen – Amen!

Words of Wisdom to Shake (Test) The Heart (Faith) of A Believer!

This Is The Story!

One of the good people had his Mother die.

When they were sending her Mother for her funeral the man broke out crying deeply and profusely – with his whole body shaking breaking out in deep cries and sobs

People asked him – Why are you crying loud like this?

He replied with heavy words that will make one think deeply!

I am really sad and heartbroken that my Mother has died – the man said!

But what really makes me sadder is that Allah (God) Has now closed for me the one door to Heaven! (Cries more)

Subhanah Allah (God Is Great!)

  • He is crying because he knows now that he will not be able to do any more good deeds for his Mother’s sake!
  • He will not any longer be able to serve his Mother!
  • He will not any longer be able to make his Mother happy!
  • And all these deeds are what will take one to Jannah (Heaven)!

Today a person runs away from one’s parents (does not take care of one’s parents)!

If his parent sends him for an errand he runs away or is annoyed by this!

When his parent asks for a favour or some assistance in money – he is not concerned nor is bothered (pretends or give excuses he cannot help!)

 Remember also please!

That you are running away to go to Heaven but instead get to go to Hell instead!

Serve your Parent!

Feed Your Parent with your own hands!

Take Care of Your Parent!

Shelter your parent!

Show love attention and care for your parent!

Allah God Our Lord Creator will reciprocate in turn to give you blessings in addition to that from your parents (Ameen Amen).

And for those whose parents are already dead please make regular constant prayers (Dua) for them!

Do not worship anyone except Allah God Almighty!

Allah is the only God for us all!

And look after and do good kind compassionate things to your parents!

And when anyone of them reaches old age and is with you –

Do not reply back or say anything in anger or dismay to them!

Talk to them with due patience, kindness care and understanding! Because one day your children will do the same to you what you do to your parents!

More Dangerous and Troubled Waters Ahead!

*****

Another one of my favourite Hadiths because it teaches us to get up and do something:

On the authority of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree (May Allah be pleased with him) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say,

“Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.” [Muslim]

All my life I have gone to level 2 as maximum (by writing speaking about it!www.majidall.com etc.)

But now with all the bad things happening to me now I go level 3 … but one day people will remember what I tried hard to do.

Ma Salamah. Bye.

Majid Al Suleimany

“He who does not show mercy shall see no mercy (from his Lord).”
“Allah is not merciful to him who is not merciful to men.”

Quran 2:278

O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers.

Quran 2:279

And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger. But if you repent, you may have your principal – [thus] you do no wrong, nor are you wronged.

Quran 2:280

And if someone is in hardship, then [let there be] postponement until [a time of] ease. But if you give [from your right as] charity, then it is better for you, if you only knew.

And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allah. Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be treated unjustly.

Retirees / Pensioners – The Worst Hit Lot in the Economy Now!

Retirement industry: How old do you have to be before you can stop working?

Al Jazeera TV English – September 4, 2016

Very interesting programme which just confirms what I have been saying all along here – about Pensioners Retirees (plus Families Youth still with no job or unemployable still) bearing the worst in current economic status quo – and especially Retirees and Pensioners that are in Big Debt still from loans past even 15 years ago!

It is not only me saying it!)

UAE edges closer to Bankruptcy Law.

Quote – Japan, the world’s third-largest economy, has one of the highest number of elderly citizens on the planet.
Over the next 20 years, the number of people over the age of 75 is expected to make up 30 percent of the population. And that is having a big impact on the economy as well as society in general.
Some companies have already taken matters into their own hands and opted for hi-tech solutions to helping people work beyond retirement age.

And Japan is not the only country encouraging people to work beyond retirement age: Finland makes its population work until the age of 68 before they’re able to claim state pension; in Greece, people have to work until 67; and recently, young Germans were told they might have to work until they are 69 years old.

For the past decade, governments across the developing world have been cutting the pension bill by increasing the retirement age; that’s because people are living longer and birth rates are declining.

But how will this affect future generations? How old does one now need to be before they can stop working?

Images – Pensioners!

Coma Majid

Image I in Coma State ICU Royal Hospital!

A long time ago when our late Father was still alive, we took him for his due Medical (Parkinson) Appointment at Royal Hospital. My younger brother went to take a wheel chair and we both carried our Father over to the wheel chair from the car. As we were doing this, one elder person came over to congratulate us ‘for looking after your father’ – and he admitted he was jealous and envious to us because his son – a Senior Public Official as he told us! –   did not have the time for him! He had just dropped him at the Hospital – and asked him when he is ready to call him to fetch him or he will send someone to do so!

He asked us if we were working or had we retired? We told him that we were all still working but had taken the day off specifically to look after our Father. He told our Father – Elder Brother – You are a lucky man – and that you are blessed to have such sons with you! I noticed some tears from the man as he said this to us!

With the life styles nowadays, there are many Retirees and Pensioners suffering in silence and some alone in their own homes – or some staying with their children – but the children are so busy with making it in the ‘rat race’ and with financial burdens already to have time for their aged parents and elders! As a good friend of mine had foretold his own death by saying ‘you can be surrounded by people’ but still feel as the loneliest person on earth – or even die that way too with you alone in the house – and that is sadly how he went too!

It is an established fact that The Retirees and Pensioners have significantly contributed to the status of The Nation with what it is today with great sacrifices, loyalties, dedication and commitment. No one can deny them this – and doing so goes against all the teachings, ethics and principles of Life!

Unfortunately too, The Retirees Pensioners are currently the worst hit lot in the Economy now! Though I do not have generic statistics to back the aforementioned, but it is my guess too that those families with Youth that are still with no job or unemployable still also come close to this lot!

The Retirees Pensioners are bearing the worst in the current economic status quo – and especially Retirees and Pensioners that are in Big Debt still from loans past taken to pay from even 15 years ago!

I was watching this very interesting programme in Al Jazeera TV English – September 4, 2016. The Programme is entitled – Retirement industry: How old do you have to be before you can stop working?

Which just confirms what I have been saying all along here – about Pensioners Retirees (plus Families Youth still with no job or unemployable still) bearing the worst in current economic status quo – and especially Retirees and Pensioners that are in Big Debt still from loans past taken even 15 years ago!

Quote – Japan, the world’s third-largest economy, has one of the highest number of elderly citizens on the planet.

In short the programme encourages people to work to a very late age because of their financial burdens and crisis that many of them face today in life! With reduced incomes – some to even just less than half of their incomes in the past now as their new incomes – with no added incomes like overtime or second jobs or part-time employment!

Even though many of them are well experienced seasoned Professionals and Experts – the preference is for less qualified experienced where the payment of salaries can be very much lower – but missing all those deliverables that can be strived from the elder lots!

The programme quotes statistics of ‘those going for Early Retirement and dying a few years later from the date of retirement as a normal cause of events.

In summary, there is need for Compassion, Consideration, Understanding and Sympathy for The Retirees and Pensioners – and especially from The State and from Banks ‘pursuing past loans’ due to the economic downturn now!

A good British friend HSE friend of mine tells me that in many cases of ‘fire victims’ is that people panicked and ran for the exits pushing away others – instead of normal exiting – and only to end at just about to exit place! We should not panic or cause panic and consternation now!

Economists actually believe in Image Retention – and that is the time to buy a new wardrobe – furniture – or even a new car!

May Allah SWT God The Almighty Guide us all to The Right Path and Way and away from His Anger, Fury and Wrath – Ameen Amen!

Justice In Islam! 2

Justice In Islam!

Justice

When I was studying in Secondary School in Tanzania in the early 1960s – they were introducing Socialism as a Compulsory Subject for all the students. If you failed in the subject you just did not get your Secondary School Leaving Certificate! It was as simple as that!

In one of the topics they were preaching of how Law and Order was being broken up by ‘the enemies of The State’ by mocking and making fun (trifling!) the State Institutions – especially those involved in keeping ‘the Safety and the Security’ of The State apparatus!

Once ‘they’ have done that – that is the The Enemies – the rest becomes easy!

In one of the famous phrases by Mao – The then China Communist Leader – was ‘Peace comes from the barrel of the gun’!  It scared me to bits and pieces!

They even talked about one Being The Judge, Jury and Executioner Stuff etc!

***

As we watch around us things going wrong all around us it is important that we remain ever vigilant and alert of Protecting and Preserving our beloved Nation. It is noted that we Omanis are loyal, trusting respecting and welcoming peoples – and some may even label us as being ‘weak and docile’ for that matter!

I feel, therefore, that it is important to REMIND OURSELVES of sense of Fairness, Justice in Islam – lest we deviate – whether inadvertently or by default even.

***

Justice In Islam!

Allah God spoke to His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in this manner:

“O My slaves, I have forbidden injustice for Myself and forbade it also for you.  So avoid being unjust to one another.” (Saheeh Muslim)

Thus, justice represents moral rectitude and fairness, since it means things should be where they belong.

The Importance of Justice

The Quran, the sacred scripture of Islam, considers justice to be a supreme virtue.  It is a basic objective of Islam to the degree that it stands next in order of priority to belief in God’s exclusive right to worship (Tawheed) and the truth of Muhammad’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prophethood.  God declares in the Quran:

“God commands justice and fair dealing…” (Quran 16:90)

Prophet Muhammad underscored the importance of rulers being just in one of his famous sayings.

“There are seven categories of people whom Allah will shelter under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. (One will be) a just leader.” (Saheeh Muslim)

The Qur’an warns believers against subjective factors or personal emotions leading them to deviate from the path of justice, which is also the path of Islam, but it weighs heavily upon those who are required to adjudicate in disputes or to give judgment on other issues.

“O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah and be just witnesses and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: That is nearer to piety, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do.” (Al-Maidah: 8)

Muslims are also called upon to rise above social evils such as nepotism and favoritism. Almighty Allah says in the Qur’an,

“O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do.” (Al-Nisa: 135)

A Short Story! Are You A Prawn? 1

Are You A Prawn?

By Majid Al Suleimany

August 20th 2015

I had posted the below poster in the Social Media and it received unbelievable overwhelming positive responses – and I wished I had received similar at least with my Books Postings at least!

Prawns

A long time ago when my sister was alive – I visited Tanzania on holidays! My late sister PBUH Allah Rahmah had invited me for lunch! Guess what was on the menu –all prawns and lobsters – coconut rice and grilled barbequed lobsters and prawns – and with the coconut curry lobsters! She found me not partaking the food with the zeal she had expected to emanate from me – as she knew that I do like my food!

I told her – My sister you forgot that I do not eat sea food except fish only? She was devastated – and she lamented that she had gone very early in the morning that day to buy the prawns and lobsters that had costed her quite a lot for a widowed at home woman! In the end she ordered for me just plain chicken curry from a nearby restaurant – and I ate with the rice!

Crab

Crab

When I was a student in UK in the early 1970s – there was a Big Students Annual Party thrown up by Shell International – the parent company of Petroleum Development Oman PDO which had sent me for the course in UK! Everybody was enjoying themselves with the lobsters and prawn infested dinner with exception of you know who- who got served separately with chicken legs instead!

At a Departmental party years later – my Top Boss who simply hated me as a person and my guts was boasting loudly – already top drunk – that only ‘poofs and sissies’ he knows do not eat prawns, crabs and lobsters – that were the main menu! So indirectly he may have known that I do not eat these things – and perhaps to make me sad and miserable?

lobster[1]

So from that day onwards, I always gave an excuse not to attend any more parties from his side! Ironically – and what they say – what goes around; comes around – because many had ‘food poisoning’ from the lobsters I gather – and had to go for treatment at the Medical clinic – except the Host who seemed more protected by the alcohol!

A Big Joke after the weekend in the Offices! I understand that is why Her Majesty The Queen never partakes sea food on her travels abroad!

prawns 2

At this party above – a good Indian friend volunteered an ‘explanation’ as to why I do not eat lobsters etc.! He used reincarnation theology being himself a Hindu person – though top drunk too – that perhaps in my past life I was a lobster – so how can you eat your own kind? That is cannibalism – he asserted! Though I wanted to challenge him if he was sure of ‘lobsters not eating lobsters theory’ – but I thought better of it – and went just quiet! What about ‘big lobsters’ eating ‘smaller ones’? I could Google eat – but who really cares? Certainly not I!

At a family gathering one day my son in law Ali pinned me down to offer a ‘logical explanation’ as to why I ‘do not eat lobsters, prawns and crabs’ – his nickname being Ali The Fisherman! These things upset them more! Despite I do not eat ‘these things’ I do buy and allow them to be cooked for visitors – and guess what the topic will turn to when I do not partake the stuff – every time even if they have heard of it before! So I sarcastically and cynically retort – finish the dinner – and I will tell you why! Oh – they say in disgust – because they have heard of it before!

If you like lobsters, prawns and crabs – may I suggest you do not read The Addendum? J !

But frankly – it is true the poster that – Some people are like prawns! No guts, no spine and a head full of shit! But market value is always high! (Or are proud and conceited! Like I always say after the Offices environments – it is in Families where people most misbehave and conduct themselves badly! And behave just like prawns!

I hope you have enjoyed the article. If you have – please let The Chief Editor and The CEO of Oman Daily Observer – observerfeatures@gmail.com – editorobserver@gmail.com – know that ‘you miss my Columns – Between Us Only! That used to run every Sunday and Wednesday before being abruptly ended more than 2 years ago- when I criticised The Egyptian Army murdering in cold blood their own peoples demonstrating for reinstalling Morsi as elected President of Egypt! And the support they got from some GCC countries! I am not Egyptian – nor Pro or Anti Morsi- but a human being observing my faith and as with human feelings and concerns!

How many Omanis can write like this? Allah Kareem! God Is Great! Ameen! Amen!

Take Care!

Best wishes and regards,

ADDENDUM!

Repeat – Please do not read if you like lobsters, prawns and crabs!

In the island of Mafia aka Chole -100 miles from Dar es Salaam – Commercial Capital of Tanzania – my late Father PBUH Allah Rahmah – he liked sea food like crabs, prawns and lobsters! If you see how they are cooked still alive – you will never eat one again!

So they put these large crabs still alive and deadly – into a big boiling hot pot! They cover the pot with a tin cover and lay a big stone on top of it! You can hear the ‘tap’ tap – tap – tap as they ‘try to get out’ – open the cover please! We are being steamed hot alive here! The taping goes on for a long while – because they have a life of their own!

One day ‘one strong crab’ managed to push the lid and stone away! Our African house boy pushed it back in – and put a larger stone more on the lid! It took more than 5 minutes of incessant tapping to end!

How can you eat  these things – after this? I ask you!

After all, they look so ugly and terrible – like Big Insects! L !

P.S. You were warned not to come here! Have a Smile! Take Care!

The Funeral Images!

Have you seen this film? A Wedding and a Funeral?

I do not know about you – but for me – I am always ready to expect the worst news at any time! Perhaps more that has got to do with my life recently – with all the ups and downs (more!)!

So when the call came early morning – and from someone who never calls just to chat – but more to pass the news now and then – I immediately knew something bad and amiss has happened! At first I thought it had to do with my sister in law whom we visited day before in the Hospital – admitted because of ‘breathing problems’! And that brings in the point that we do not appreciate Life’s Giving – and what God has given until something has gone missing – or is too late!

Trust us Omanis to always say polite chit chat greetings and compliments before ‘we give in the core news’. It has always been and never has changed – even that Police and The Court Clerk come home to arrest you! They will start nice – and end in the bad news ‘with the usual sugar coating on the bitter pill1per se! I see that you are saying to me the very same thing – you are doing the very same thing, my friend!

I remember in my old days in the old oil company – when the Top Guy (Omani) says to me = cut the crap – and just come to the point! The other day I met him in a Supermarket – and I was sure to give him the body signs that ‘I still remember and do not care much about him’ – though I felt conscience stricken and guilty when he called out my name ‘sort of fondly’ – and asked me what happened to the Between Us Only! columns?

I had to remind him a bit gently that he gave me the blast when I said ‘Between Us Only!’ and did not realise that I used to like to say this until when me and the esteemed newspaper were discussing what to call my columns! When I said it again – the good man who had opened the door for me to write uttered a bit loudly – Yes – we will call it ‘Between Us Only! It went on for 13 years more when it was ended more by a ‘technicality’ – if not evil design – and my book Goodbye; Between Us Only! – www.createspace.com/5139836 – said The Full Story!

So then this my son in law was saying to me – Uncle – Bad News! My Father has died just now! Peacefully in his sleep! And the funeral is going to be after afternoon prayers! So I went down and made my own breakfast – as the Filipino house maid of over 13 years was away celebrating Christmas Mass the night before! Yes – today was Christmas Day – and a funeral to go to!

Perhaps a Blessing in disguise – with all the ‘hate intolerant – ‘not let live and let live’ mails I was getting – of ‘not to celebrate Xmas’ – but now even ‘not to send greetings even’! I wrote the book A Cry For Help! in June 2009 – long before the so-called Arab Springs hit us – and even Oman was not spared! I had cautioned and warned of all things – but nobody cared or bothered!

So Christmas Day was ‘celebrated’ at the funeral grounds – burying a family member! Allah God Rest his soul in eternal peace and salvation – in this world and the next Ameen (Amen) – but he lived to be over 92 – with no major sickness or illness! A nice way to go too – peacefully – and not ‘be a cause of trouble and nuisance’ to others for ‘a long time’ – that the day you go – you get crude remarks like – he is now at peace at last! – and few tears around! Unless reminded – Hey someone has died! Why no tears and wails?? Happened to my late grandfather (PBUH) – and as a child it took me many years to apprehend and appreciate why no one was crying then! Except my poor Mother PBUH!

*** The Marriage ***

arab henna Trend 2011 Arabic Wedding Dress Omani bride[1] Wedding Tent

I read this article about a dispute that had arisen at a time of our Great Prophet SAW when a person had died and there was also a wedding that was to take place almost at the same time. I do not profess to be much learned in Religious Affairs – so please do not ask me to give you References! Comes from a stern warning I got from a friend Religious Leader who ‘sternly warned me’ – Do not give Religious Stories (The Hadith) – unless you have ‘References’ to back you up! Anyway, to cut it short (cut the crap?) – it ‘was decided to bury the dead body first – and after a while to go to the wedding – after a respectful solemn time had elapsed to respect the dead – and their family and relative members!

Reminded of the incident, I was debating if I should go to the ‘three times repeatedly invited’ wedding at the Masjid (Mosque)? Same Day of the Funeral! Same Day of Christmas? Imagine someone choosing the date to get married! In most probabilities it never crossed the mind – because people are more concerned to have weddings at the weekends – and to have an available date with all the young marriages taking place now! Remember my article – From Pampers to Wedding Dress? You will – if you are a strong fan!

Talking about Fans! In the end I decided to go – and I was ready to answer some of those ‘so intrusive people into others personal affairs’ – why are you here? I thought you had a funeral? I was anyway practicing the great Religious Story to give – but thank God nobody dared to ask! Although there was a crude one who remarked – Still at the dish? – when all the others had left – and I was eating alone – as you know the Omani way of a big plate with morsels and morsels of meat and rice (Biriyani) to be eaten group-wise! I was remarking to one of the partakers that in ‘Africa only 2 people can finish off this plate’ – and here we were 6 Omanis and still half eating of the plate!

So before the meal there were some ‘fans’ inquiring about the articles – and what happened? I have now a field day to say what ‘really happened – and how they were all killed more by a technicality! And then the ‘followers’ still in the ‘social media’ remarked to me ‘how he liked what I wrote about ‘The Mafias and The Old Guards’ – and why reading newspapers is no longer interesting – as it was before! Sure to rub it in – I protested ‘innocently’ – do not blame me! Blame them instead!

Overall it was a very testing trying day – and showing all about life – from A Funeral to A Wedding!

Take Care!
