The Joy of   Being Happy!

What is being happy is all about?

April 17, 2018

The other day I was complaining bitterly about my Mobile Phone that I needed now to charge it almost two to three times a day! Overheard by my daughter – she suggested to have the phone battery changed – as it was a very old model Samsung Note 4 – it was struggling hard to keep up with the latest versions, media and technology!

Then the miracle came into being – after just a mirage in the horizon! My daughter bought for me the latest Samsung S9 Plus! An old PDO Retiree Pensioner has never been so much happier – albeit so many upsets and downs recently for even wanting basic things in life – which are available to many others – or at least should be available – but then everybody wants to show off their powers and control elements on others – as has been the life that we are facing nowadays!

When I was studying in UK in the 1970s I got my UK Driving License and instead of using the efficient reliable public transport services – I wanted to climb the social ladder me too! Why be left out in the ‘rat race’? So I looked around for an affordable old banger of a car! I found one Morris 1300 belonging to an old lady!

She wanted Sterling Pounds 200 for it (about Omani Rials 120 I think!). The car was a Morris 1300 – see the image! Seeing me hesitating – she came down to Pounds 150. She was so happy – poor lady – when I said I will take it! She admitted to me that she originally had wanted 250 Pounds – but was afraid it would have put me off! Yes I know the left hand should not know what the right hand was giving! So I gave her what she originally wanted – and was she much happier after that!

It was a very old British car powerful and strong. Proved its mantle when one day I hit the house gates with just a minor scratch! Typical Quality British car! But one funny anecdote was if you were reversing you needed to pull a knob at the dashboard for reverse light to come on! Many times I was reprimanded by The British Traffic by driving with the reverse knob still on and not pushed back!

Images For Demonstration Purposes only!  From the first car Morris 1300   to Toyota Crown to my last one the Yukon GMC Truck!

When I started working in PDO as Senior Staff I bought at the time a Toyota Crown – see image! If you had asked me – I would have told you the Morris 1300 had made me so much happier than buying the luxury Toyota Crown! And even lesser happier than later cars I bought later in life – much more expensive and luxurious – including the famous Yukon GMC Truck case story lately!

When I was working in HR in one of the companies – the American CEO told me – Majid I want you to make the Staff feel happy to come to work and not that the only reason that they come to work is to take care of their families and pay off bills! I want that to be a priority in your HR Tasks and Targets – and portfolio! The other day I met one of the Staff – and she told me – Mr. Majid – we still remember you by your ordering vegetarian food – and keeping it separate from the rest of the food! Our own HR Director before – a non-practicing person never ever even bothered! It made a lump in my mouth!

You would think the riche folks are happier than us the rest of us – but they are not! Some of them spend the whole night pacing up and down – scared stiff that they may loose and become poor! I read this article of what looked like a poor shepherd – but the local man – after he had died – had so much money hidden in the shed – lucky for him the goats did not find them and ate them – as they are well known to chew even cardboard boxes! What is the point of having so much money hidden and being so miserly in life – just to have the feeling and power of owning money and riches?

You find in life so many people still smiling and happy faces despite so many issues and problems! They are struggling hard in life to survive and manage with the little they have but you will find them still cheerful jovial and happy! Then there is that lots of like us where small issues and problems are blown out of proportions – with some not really major issues that are facing them in life!

I know this from my relatives in Tanzania – by a far wider margin and level they are much happier! I remember this ugly incident when one of the relatives fired back at me when I asked her why she cooked so much food in the lunch times and letting others local partake the food! Far lesser incomes and levels than them as their contributions to solve the hunger issues! She was shocked by my outlook that she was struggling still in life – but was ready and willing to share whatever they had with the others lesser fortune! An awakening up call to the rest of us – considering ourselves more fortunate!

We were building a Masjid Mosque in Mafia Island in Tanzania and this sort of rich friend called me – I have got very good news for you! Come to the Office to collect! I was so excited and thrilled when he gave me the envelope! Afraid till I reached home I opened it to find OMR 20 inside after all the excitements! Mind you whatever contribution should be accepted and acknowledged – but from this rich person (happier person?) I was expecting much more!

How many of us have richer family and friends but when you are in trouble they will not raise a finger to help you – even if you are in extreme dire straits! Do not tell me – I have been there – and still there – but no one will help you by their stinginess bad hearts and lack of care and feelings for anyone even family but just want to check daily their Bank Accounts balances! Comes here the famous King Alexander Last Words (you can google it!)

I remember the case alsowhen I was collecting funds to make a farewell party for one British Staff leaving PDO after many years of services! This was an Expatriate who stood and fought for ‘Omani issues and cases’ well beyond the call of duty! It was agreed that for the Junior Staff they should contribute OMR 5 – and for the Senior Staff like us – OMR 10!

When I went to my Director he told me – take OMR 5 and ‘get out of my office – I do not want to see your ugly face here’ – how locals can be cruel and cutting to each other is totally another issue! With much more received income plus Company car and accommodation – he should have been more generous – but he was not! He retorted to me – I am not paying anyone more than 5 Rials for anyone leaving the company – whether local or expatriate! Who will pay for me when I leave? – were his words!

Yet at the same time there were more Junior Staff levels who were paying much more! Happier people? In Swahili they say – Kutoa ni moyo! The giving is from the heart! Not being rich or poor! There is also Kuchonga Uso! Carving your face! That is when ou go to ask for help fro richer peope (happier people supposed to be!0 – and they let you down badly! They will not even answer your phone – and ignore you if they see you outside! AL HAMDU LILLAH!

They say if you can eat at least once a day, have a roof over your head and have shelter and security you should remain and be happy always! Our Late Father – PBUH – used to tell us – Just do not compare and contrast with those ahead of you – but look at so many that are behind you in lots in life! He was drawing of when going to Dubai from Muscat – look at those still in Rustaq compared to yourself already in Sohar – be whatever car that you are driving!

Some students had approached the President then of one Third World Country that they were going to school without shoes! So he asked them to follow him! They all thought they were getting shoes – and he led them to a Leper Colony where people really wished they had feet – let alone shoes! This highly charged emotional film demonstrates well the point! A Short Film – The Other Pair! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkWdyZFyvO8

About The Book!

Goodbye; Between Us Only!

 They Will Not Publish This!

This book is the 10th book in The Series – Between Us Only! And my 20th book so far.

In order to expedite the book publishing process, minimal images are going to be inserted.

Paramount importance is to get all my articles Post last Between Us Only1 series – Wipe My Tears! The book was published in June 2013 – all intended to put all my books in one place for further references and for record purposes!

I have also included all those articles after end of my columns mainly based on ‘a Technicality’ designed to stop and to end my columns.

I was keeping to myself and trying to avoid conflict – but still people were after me! So I decided to accept the challenge – and write and record this book as the last of my columns writings for future records and references.

No one can kill the spirit, soul and heart of a Writer – because so long as a Writer will live he will not stop writing!

As Jules Renard had said – No one considers a Writer as ridiculous – even if he does not make any money! So there! Besides, I had posted this in all The Social Media – November 13, 2014

Why are we so set against each other? We will support The Foreigner and The Expatriate but not esteem and value our own! We do not have trust and confidence on our own! It is part of this great CURSE Jealousy, Envy and Bad Hearts within us! Bad unfeeling uncaring hearts inside some of us only! Pure evil-like just as is ISIL!

  • It takes only one person to destroy the works that took so many others so many years to build – and we never learn until it is too late!
  • Do Not Cry It Is Over! Be Happy That It Has Happened!

Take Care!

When Things Turn Really Bad!

Dear All & After Compliments;

1          What Has Been Happening So Far!

It has been a long while since I wrote anything in the format of an article for my websites – and as you know my two columns in The Oman Daily Observer took a natural death metaphorically by the wrong prescriptions of drugs and medicines to a slowly dying cancer victim! Sometimes the end comes quicker than expected after remission even – or when the patient was thought to be recovering by a new doctor – who turned out to be even worse than the previous doctors looking after the sick ailing patient – and ‘kicking the bucket’ for all to see!

Of course, with great cheers and happiness from some quarters determined and for some intentional wanting and willing for the columns to end! And yet still with some still craving for some more articles to come out – and a sort of relief that though the columns have ended in the said paper since November 2013 – see here –   – but ‘sort of relieved’ that I was still posting in my websites my articles – mainly in www.majidall.comwww.majidwrite.com – and opinions and views on www.majidsn.com . This apart of my books in www.myownmajid.comwww.myown-ebooks.com and www.majidbooks.com Plus the new websites for Short Takes (Stories) with mainly Omani theme at my new website at www.myshorttakes.com – and the Road Safety website at www.bethesafedriver.com

One can safely say that with all these websites belonging to me – and recently being that active in the Social Media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, What’s Up etc. – the losers are more the newspaper than me – because if there are still followers and fans out there they can still follow me! There are of course those that bought the newspaper only on the days that my articles would appear because they read more Arabic newspapers – and now will not be doing so! And those fans that may be inclined not to buy the newspaper anymore – because my articles no longer appear!

It reminds me of a good friend of mine – a Pilot – whom I had queried a long time ago that as we landed in Zanzibar small strip I thought I heard brakes as the plane was landing? I thought this was strange – because normally the brakes were being applied after the plane had gone to some distance – not as the plane was landing – and this is dangerous even to the layman! Metaphorically, when I used to write my columns I used to ‘apply the brakes’ so to speak as the pane was landing – but now in The Social Media I could write whatever I wanted to a reason without an Editing Staff interference – and as in many cases just for them to show they had power and control to ‘edit your articles’! Trust my Indian friends ‘not to let you down’! J !

2          The Gaza Impact

Take from me because all that I had wanted to say were in The Social Media where I was very active to what some may even dare to say to ‘dangerous levels’ – but a time comes in life when you have to do the ‘Right Thing at The Right Time’ – and that the ‘element of fear’ has long gone now! Or even if you do put a brave front – what is the difference – or what else is new? – As I like often to ask!

One thing I have noticed – even at home that people are at ‘short fuse’ and ready to explode at any moment! My granddaughter was asking me why those bad Jews (!) were killing innocent children – and what have the children done to be killed and to be hurt by this? I cried when one of The Palestinian girl had her legs amputated – including her mother too! – And she was asking her father when ‘When can I have my legs back, Daddy?’ – So heartbreaking and distressing – Sometimes those with children killed could even be classified ‘as luckier’ – than those with injured and maimed for life children!

Arab blood is not cheap as an Arab Leader had said. Another had said that we are ready to go back and ‘ride our camels’ – but is the West ready to do the same – if we ourselves burn all the oil wells to prevent them being taken over by our enemies!

Anyway, I was just watching Obama giving justifications of attacking the so-called Iraqi ‘Muslim’ fundamentalists to ‘protect the Yazidi people of Iraq! Sic! What about Gazans and The Palestinians Mr. Obama. I am sorry I voted for you in my way – I think even Bush was better and had more guts and courage than you Obama! I guess your converted Muslim father must be turning in his grave – the poor man! But then it must not be forgotten that Israel is also occupying, dominating and controlling USA UK and all the others – just as The West Bank is! Enough for a moment on Gaza – but I want to talk here on the repercussions of Gaza!

3          The Gaza Affects!

This week I had two incidents.

One

It was at a place that I had gone ‘for services’ but the treatment was at best ‘much wanting’ from such a high profile place always in the news! So I went instead to another pace where I was ‘treated better and more professionally cum ethically’ to my full satisfaction. I should have left it at that – but silly stupid me I never learn from my lessons – and I went up to put a claim for refund from the first place. They bluntly refused – so again I should have let things lie and accept my loss – but when I encountered that if it were a VIP or a customer of their likes – they would have refunded! All hell was let loose! With all kinds of provocations including the element of my writings! See this one for good measure www.majidwrite.com/2014/01/07/being-proud-conceited-and-haughty-in-life/ and even this one too! www.majidwrite.com/2012/10/28/the-disease-of-pride/ in elaborating and making the point!

This supposed to be Professional High Profile Person was so provocative and hurtful – and he had the guile and guts to tell me that ‘this is the reason your articles got ended’! Sic! and Double Sic! I respected and esteemed this person highly – and I had always considered him as ‘a brother and friend’ – but he got angry at me because I attacked his Secretary for saying NO to me as if she had this Authority to say No! So sad and tragic really!

Two

A simple request from a family member who was having his first daughter getting married and in good trust and faith had come to me for whatever I could muster to help him – seeing especially daughters’ marriages to be very expensive! I saw it myself a few months ago with my youngest daughter when I ended literally bankrupted!

So I passed the request to the other members of the family and relatives! Trust people to bring past histories – and past errors of judgments and mistakes to light – when that poor person has ‘as the East Africans say – Kuchonga Uso – that is ‘literally carving up my face’ in shame to ask others for favours and help! My late Father always warned us – the fastest way to lose respects and standings from people is to go to others to ask for help and favours! And the difference between men and God is that the more you ask from God Allah SWT He is more pleased with you – whist with human beings it is exactly the opposite!

Our Religion also tells us – that we should be kind and compassionate to our fellow human beings – and if we cannot then do not expect Allah God to be so inclined to you either on The Day of Reckoning and as they lower your body into the ground for burial! With ants, worms and others waiting to consume your body for a festive meal!

So this one family member ‘reminded me of what this man’s father – sic! – had done to our father before in their past lives! Why should we keep grudges of the past – when both the elders had forgiven each other? And for us the off springs to keep on the feud? And what has this poor girl getting married done as a mistake? Her grandfather parents mistakes? So she should be held accountable too! We forget that the same God that gave you – is the same God that denied this person!

This week I was very sick person with my glucose count down as a result of watching the Gaza scenes! And abdomen pain that found itself to be prostate too! Thank God so far not terminal or cancerous!

I need to take things easier and calmer now – but I guess the after effects of Gaza have hit many – and the vicious cycle seems for each one of us to turn against each other – instead of directing it to The Real Causer and Enemy! What hurts more are that in both cases I thought I was dealing with peoples friendly and known to me – but the end results and how these people turned out worse is very scary and alarming! God Allah Help and Protect and Preserve us all Ameen Amen.

I will not involve the case of doing a Human Resources Consultancy job for one Local Company from The South owned – and how I got raw treated and lost money (again and again)! How cruel and unkind we are to each other is not only scary and frightening – but is just an Omen of just more bad things and disasters waiting to happen to us! But I have said all these things already in my Arab Management books – A Cry For Help! – www.myownmajid.com and Psychology of Arab Management Thinking! www.trafford.com/08-0889

The only good news I had this week – from the stomach of evil came blessings – as The Arabs like to say – is this – please read it too! – http://bethesafedriver.com/2014/08/04/arabic-behind-the-wheel-book-now-available-on-line/

*** The Times of Oman article –

Muscat: If the headline sounds familiar, it should. Times of Oman last Wednesday urged drivers to slow down during the rain and avoid the overflowing wadis. That very night, despite his brother’s pleadings, Salim Al Kalbani, 28, tragically risked crossing a wadi despite the downpour, a decision that claimed his life and could have killed his younger sibling, Hamad Al Kalbani, 26, too. So today, with more rain forecast in parts of the Sultanate, we say don’t listen to us, listen to the words of a grieving Hamad, who survived narrowly after their car was swept away by the turbulent waters of Wadi Kabir in the wilayat of Ibri.

“I tried to convince him to wait till the water flow comes down. However, he believed in his vehicle’s power to cross the wadi,” said Hamad, an Ibri resident. “I decided to jump from the window as many citizens and civil defence force personnel were trying to help us after the wadi flow started sending the vehicle adrift. “I tried to help my brother but he got trapped inside the vehicle and couldn’t survive,” said Hamad, who had a narrow escape, thanks to the help from citizens and civil defence force personnel.

“I lost my brother and I feel really bad that I couldn’t stop him from crossing the wadi at first and couldn’t rescue him when the wadi washed away the car. If I can go back in time, I would stop my brother from crossing the wadi even if I had to use force,” said Hamad. The Royal Oman Police and the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) frequently try to prevent such tragedies by sending out weather warnings, but these are often ignored by young men in their 20s. But it’s not just men driving into trouble. Each incident risks the lives not only of those unwitting or foolhardy enough to risk the weather, but also endangers those who go to their rescue.

Heroic rescue

In a heroic incident, also last Wednesday, a young man, who heard screams of a woman and her children coming from a vehicle that was being swept away by a wadi in Nizwa, decided to risk his life and tried to prevent the vehicle from drifting away in the wadi. The man was able to save the entire family from what seemed certain death. However, residents of Nizwa urged the government to find a solution to the wadis flowing in the Souq area as they always suffer damages and casualties. The Al Dakhiliyah region witnesses heavy rains that lead to a lot of wadis overflowing and converging in front of the Souq area, causing massive flow of water that makes it difficult to cross the main road there. In response, the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance in Nizwa is trying to find a way to avoid damages like the ones that occurred due to the wadi flow in Nizwa Souq area when it had rained last. Plan afoot to curb flooding dangers

A reliable source at the Public Authority Civil Defence and Ambulance told Times of Oman that the authority is open to several solutions, including building a dam or finding a way to change the route of the wadi’s flow. “The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance in Nizwa believes that the new road project connecting Farq to Tanouf will help avoid damages suffered during rains,” the source explained. He added that the project is ongoing and expected that once finished, it would result in smooth flow of traffic during rain and help normalise life.

The PACDA is still investigating a case in which a man went missing after his car fell off a cliff overlooking a wadi in the Wilayat of Dima Wa Al Tayeen. The Wilayat of Dima Wa Al Tayeen received heavy rainfall on Saturday night. Though it is not known whether the accident was connected to heavy rains witnessed in the area, onlookers speculated the weather conditions could have led to the mishap. Residents of the wilayat told Times of Oman that it is not the first time they had witnessed such an incident.

They apprehended that the wadi flow swept away the body towards Dhaiqah Wadi where all the wadis of Tayeen meet. A reliable source at PACDA told Times of Oman that the search operation is ongoing. He added that the search would cover the Dhaiqah Dam after finishing search operations in all the wadis of the Wilayat of Dima Wa Al Tayeen. Cloud development over the Governorate of Musandam and Al Batinah is expected to bring light rain to the area in the next 48 hours, according to Directorate General of Meteorology and Air Navigation forecast.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent! – Eleanor Roosevelt

Dear Readers, Fans and All;

I have reached a stage now in my life that I sincerely and genuinely feel that it is no longer worthwhile for me to continue writing my columns Between Us Only! and At My Workplace! The columns have ended since November 2013.

When I have some time – now and then – I will try to add posts here.

Everything (good) has to come to an end one day!
