An Open Letter From Me! Reply

Front Wipe My Tears

An Open Letter To You – My Reader (Fan).

From My Heart!

This is an Open Letter – and especially directed to those that consider me as ‘Trouble’ – or ‘Adversary’!

  • If one of you sees something wrong, let him change      it with his own hand; if he cannot, then raise voice and speak out against      it; if he cannot do even that, then dislike or hate it in your heart, but      that is the lowest degree of faith – The Hadith
  • I have a right to my anger, and I don’t want anybody telling me I      shouldn’t be, and that something’s wrong with me because I get angry – Maxine Walters
  • Life is too short to stress yourself with people who don’t even      deserve to be an issue in your life
  • No need for revenge. just sit back and wait. Those      who hurt you will eventually screw up themselves and if you are lucky, God      will let you watch – Good Karma
  • Don’t bother about people who judge you without knowing you …      Remember, dogs bark if they don’t know the person
  • Some people will love to hate you for all the wrong reason but they’re      not worth your attention

Life is very awkward and strange. People do bad things to you – insult your intelligence and integrity – ridicule you as a person – and expect you to remain quiet – and do nothing about it! Turn the other cheek! Let me poke out the other eye – and please do not turn or squirm while I am doing this to you – or you will make me more annoyed and angry with you!

Why should you act differently? I am doing the same to the others – and they take it quietly! Why should you be different? You are a very difficult person. Too many chips on your shoulders. Who do you think you are? You are too much!

Well – perhaps I am different! Our Late Father brought us up to stand our grounds – and never to be scared or afraid! Speak the truth always. And let no one – simply no one – to treat you badly – or try to ridicule you – or make you feel small or inferior!

Frankly, I am the easiest person to handle. Treat me with respect and kind words – and I will try to bring the moon to you! I simply do not allow anyone to rough shod and treat me badly – and yes I react very badly – after trying very hard to remain collected and quiet – patient and tolerant – and even caution and warn you in the process.

But if repeated incursions and Red Lines are crossed – yes I come charging in! That is me – Take Me – Or Leave Me!

I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best – Marilyn Monroe

Some More Sayings –

  • Never allow someone to be your priority while      allowing yourself to be their option – Nina Potts-Jefferies
  • Only trust someone who can see three things in you:      The sorrow behind your smile; The love behind your anger; and the reason      behind your silence
  • Life cannot defeat a Writer who is in love with writing , for life      itself is a Writer’s love until death  – Edna Ferber
  • Say what is true, although it may be bitter and displeasing to people      – Baihaqi
  • If you do not tell      the truth about yourself you cannot tell it about other people – Virginia      Woolf
  • Staying quiet doesn’t mean I have nothing to say, it means I don’t      think you are ready to hear my thoughts – James McCosh
  • Treat others as you want them to treat you because what goes around;      comes around! – Arthur Wing Pinero
  • What the public criticizes in you, cultivate it, it is you – Jean Concleau
  • I’m only responsible for what I say not for what you understand
  • Never put the key to your happiness in someone      else’s pocket!

The Question To Ask Here – Did you give reason – or contribute – for me to react this way? Remember – it takes Two to Tango!  I am not a mad person – to tango alone! Need for deep self analysis and conscience review!

Many Thanks!

Best Wishes and Regards,

Majid Al Suleimany

October 25th 2013

Recently I have been having ‘major issues’ with a supposedly high profile establishment – which is supposed to be ‘Our Conscience Keeper’ – and lead more by examples and deeds – and not to do otherwise in lack of Professionalism, Ethics and Principles!

Like I have said before – Nothing Has Changed Much! People still act and behave in the same old ways, styles and methods – as if nothing will touch them! And even if they see things taking place live with their own eyes!

Frankly, I am the easiest person to handle. With a few kind words, I will bring the moon down to you. But if people are embarking on the old games that post Arab Springs should NO LONGER WORK – you will find me as the most terrible person on the face of the earth. I do not allow anyone – family included to rough shod me – and take me for granted.

KEY WORDS ARE RESPECT AND ESTEEM – Especially for Older Experienced, Qualified and Educated Omanis like me! I tremble to think how they will treat Young Omanis still looking for jobs!

I am a HR Professional – otherwise some of the emails sent to me by some of the double games Mafias would end in them in `Big Trouble` and even in losing their jobs – when they play different fiddles for different groups and scenarios.

Unfortunately our Omani brothers and sisters Managers and CEOs – will Never Learn – bing so gullible still yet – and these games being played on them still – because none of them have taken the time and the effort to read my Arab Management books!!

Book Review – New Book – Wipe My Tears!

Front Wipe My Tears

  • I cannot live without books – Thomas Jefferson
  • I spend a lot of time reading – Bill Gates
  • http://www.createspace.com/4304972 – For Direct Orders – Few copies with the Author

Wipe My Tears! has been adapted from Majid Al Suleimany’s successful newspaper columns in The Oman Daily Observer titled Between Us Only!. Utilizing the very best touching emotional based stories and articles from the columns that he has penned over the past four years, Al Suleimany touches on a wide variety of vital and riveting topics. The subject matter will be of interest to everyone from teenagers to grandparents – and from the clerks to the CEOs.

Wipe My Tears! focuses on the study of humanity, human needs, human interaction, society, and economics, as well as other areas. In fact, the author covers all socio-economic-political aspects of society, with an emphasis on working environments such as office space.

The book follows up on the success of the previous books and furthers the idea of private talks between friends on matters that many are too scared to touch! Often times delving into sensitive critical topics that aren’t always sweet, this enlightening book uses a clear and elegant prose to explore social evils in the society as well as their light hearted counterparts. Covering a variety of priceless topics, this wonderful collection of articles gives readers everywhere a glimpse into the issues that are prevalent in today’s society.

The author also addresses society as a whole, and the dire repercussions and consequences of bad ideas and thoughts that can be harmful to society in the broadest sense. Though many topics apply to Oman and GCC countries, the collection of columns organized by Al Suleimany offer a universal appeal because, in his view, society and family are quite similar.

  • If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead, either write things worth reading or do things worth the writing – Benjamin Franklin
  • Whenever you read a good book, it is like the author is right there, talking to you – Jack Handy

According to the author, “We have the same needs, worries, concerns and fears—as well as what we like and do not like. This is because the human being is essentially the same—regardless of race, creed, religion, color, ancestry, and ethnicity!”

The book will encourage soul-searching, deep analysis, and a quest to make the world a better place. It has been penned directly from the heart of the author to the reader. It carries many emotional personal family stories and encounters – including work experiences as a highly-qualified human resources management consultant.

The book moves quickly, advancing without boundaries, and is careful never to get bogged down in politics. While critical, the writings are also realistic and practical, and stress the need in society for change in a way that will foster more patience, tolerance, and understanding.

Yet Between Us Only! Wipe My Tears! – is not without controversy. For readers who wish to study Arabic (and Islamic) approaches to the Middle East, the West, and other religions, the book makes excellent references relating to the post-September 11 world. The increases in religious fundamentalism and radicalization in society, and the fact that many youngsters are on board with these aspects, are also taken to task.

The author, through his writings, offers up a tome that is part prayer and part preaching, desperately hoping for a change in the world that will produce a new and more positive direction. “Live and let live in peace, harmony, and co-existence,” is Al Suleimany’s mantra.

States the author, “We have the same needs, worries, concerns and fears, as well as what we like and do not like. This is because the human being is the same regardless of race, creed, religion, color, ancestry, and ethnicity!”

The book will encourage soul-searching, analysis, and a quest to make the world a better place. The writings are realistic and practical, and stress the need in society for change in a way that will foster more patience, tolerance, and understanding—as well as how to live with others in the world.

Majid Al Suleimany is a writer and management consultant based in the Middle East.

Any authentic work must start an argument between the artist and his audience – Rebecca West.

The US Review of Books connects worldwide Authors and Publishers with Professional Reviewers. It is an independent free running body – and the books and Reviewers are chosen at random order.

Pleased to inform you my Readers and Fans that my Arab Psychology Book has won the prestigious  US Gold Seal of Literary Excellency Award!

My books USA Trafford Publishers had sent me this note – which is very good news on my Arab Management book – Psychology of Arab Management Thinking! – Context and Perspectives. My book had won The Gold Seal of Literary Excellency Award – and was shortlisted for the prestigious Eric Hoffer Award.

The mere fact it had reached this stage – and competed against books from well known world Authors and Writers – and some of them being great Researchers, Professors and great Literary Artists is an achievement in itself – as it was my first Arab Management book! More information at www.myownmajid.com – I am pleased to share with you on our success!

MUSCAT, Oman – In his new book “Psychology of Arab Management Thinking: Arabian Management Series” (published by Trafford Publishing), author and analyst Majid Al Suleimany explores the management styles that he believes helped lead to the events of Arab Spring.

“This is a no-punch-held-back book,” Al Suleimany says. “It critically reviews and assesses with deep soul searching analysis the management styles and approaches of the Arab world, especially in Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) vis-à-vis the international companies operating in the international arena.”

        B - PsychologyUSA Golden Seal

An excerpt from “Psychology of Arab Management Thinking”:

“As Arabs work is worshipped in our Religion – so what went wrong here? Especially in Management circles? Why are we behind the rest of the world, despite all our riches, potentials and resources?

This is a no punch held back, no barrels held, no stiff, no frills play – but to be as blunt, frank, open, honest and sincere as far as possible – so the book can be a learning experience and process for this generation – and future to come – especially after the recent Arab Spring uprisings!”

Al Suleimany knows his book fills a critical need. “Little is known of Arab management styles,” he says, “especially as written from the inside by an Arab himself as an experienced professional local HR and management expert, advisor and counselor.”

“Psychology of Arab Management Thinking” – By Majid Al Suleimany

The Book Review – The book was reviewed by one John E. RoperUSA – Quote www.theusreview.com/reviews/Psychology-Suleimany.html

www.trafford.com/08-0889

“It is only by building on existing strengths, and moving forwards on established capabilities that economic maturity can be achieved and rising living standards maintained.”

Writers approach their craft with a variety of motivations. Some search for fame, others for fortune, and still others because spinning words together is one of the few things they are really good at. Some, though, write because what they have to say is burning inside them, and the only release is to share with others what has so inflamed their emotions. Such is the case with the author, whose passion for his people and his culture has driven him to speak out against the problems within Arab management practices so that, as he says, he can one day tell his grandchildren that by writing books he did something about them.

The author approaches his topic as an insider. Having worked extensively in the global business environment and in human resources in particular, both with Arab and international leadership, he has seen firsthand the shortsightedness, prejudice, paranoia, and autocratic tendencies of many Arab managers as well as the unfortunate fact that motivation and morale are frequently higher among Arab employees when someone other than one of their own countrymen is in charge. These observations have gnawed at him, and he questions not only why the situation within the corporate world is like this but also what can be done about it.

As an Omani, the Author offers great insight into his own country’s management issues, but he is quick to point out that many of the observations he makes can be applied to businesses throughout the Arab world. While the subject matter of this book will mainly appeal to readers approaching it from an Arab perspective, students of international business can also learn a lot from the author’s research – Unquote

What The Book Had Said!

As aforementioned, the book is about Arab Management issues and aspects – with personal experiences, exposures and examples of the Author stretching over 35 years experiences in Management and Human Resources – and as a Consultant, Advisor and Expert for over the past 10 years in a number of companies.

Continued – Author’s Note – For a long time now, I have been putting off the idea of writing this book – though it had been on my mind for a long time now. The mere idea of writing this book scared me to bits and pieces – for many valid and pertinent reasons.

I hope you will enjoy the book. I have tried to be as frank, open, forthright, honest, sincere and genuine as I can – as Readers who know me can give credence and credibility to me and will vouch and authenticate my works.

I have not spared myself, so there is just for it to be honest, sincere, genuine and hard hitting – sparing no one. Just No One!

 Between Us Only!

 Being Exemplary In Life!

  • Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else – Judy Garland
  • Be the change that you want to see in the world – Mahatma Gandhi

We constantly hear these phrases being said – Act your position! Act your role! Be yourself! Please be professional – ethical – principled! We expect better things from you – not you doing this instead! Maybe people are too long in jobs – and they have come to feel indispensable – or nothing can touch them now! Or nobody cares – so why should I?

Or yet still – with due respects – but …! Or – I am sorry (not my role) to say this to you – but I think…! Or he is the best example of what a Manager (CEO) should be! Or a Human Resources, Finance, Media, Engineer etc professional should be! Or a True Leader – he leads by examples and deeds! Or the other side of the coin – Act your position! Act your level! Act your standing! Be your real self – person!

What if a parent or teacher does not behave and act as one? In the Western world – your own children can be taken away from you – and be put in Social Care and for Adoption – if you do not behave like parents are required to behave, act and perform – and when you are even in danger to your own children!

 Examplery 2

Images – Being Exemplary! For Demonstration Purposes Only!

What if a Human Resources HR Professional does not behave, act and perform as one? If you who is supposed to be ‘The Conscience Keeper’ of the establishment – and even more than the CEO or Director? It is not only representing the Management – going by the books – and the easy way of doing things – and ignoring the employees – who look upon you to sort their issues too – even if in confrontation and in disputes with the Management? That is what makes the mantle of true HR – and what shines out – or not? To be able to confront Management – when they are in the wrong – or have made or going to make mistakes – and gross errors in thinking and in judgment! I can tell you – HR is not an easy job – it is not only Admin – and doing visas renewals!

Examplery 3

Images – Being Exemplary! For Demonstration Purposes Only!

What if you are in Finance and or in Audits? And you see wrong practices being made – not only in operations – but in money, fraud, bribery and corruption? But you go along – because you are afraid more of ‘keeping your job’ – and being on ‘the protective nice side of yourself’ – why should I care – so long as I get my pay? Trust me – when heads will roll – yours will too without escape? And what if you are in The Media? Or as an Engineer? Or in the other professions? Where you are required to act your role and position – and be the example to follow – lead by examples – and deeds – and not you joining the league in bad, wrong, unprofessional, unprincipled and unethical practices?

As a young boy – I used to hear especially my late father lament – You are the eldest (Mother side) – and you are supposed to set an example to be copied – and not you as the eldest to fight with your brothers – and worse with your sisters! My late father used to say to me – you hold the responsibilities of being the eldest. It is a heavy responsibility! Act your age! Act your role! Or you are just wastage of space and air! Eldest – but not worth the label! In my crooked ways of thinking – sometimes I used to think that my parents just did not just like me!

We have seen these films like Whistleblower – where the heroine stands to lose everything – including her own life even – by exposing great institutions like UN for ‘covering up’ human trafficking in ex war torn areas of the world – where even the top guys want to ‘push the dirt under the carpet’?

The Whistleblower Film

Images – Being Exemplary! For Demonstration Purposes Only!

There are now many institutions where ‘Whistle Blowers’ are encouraged, defended and protected – under new ‘Good Governance’ management practices and principles. Not even in companies and state institutions, NGOs etc – but even to higher levels – like even Presidents like Nixon were exposed in the great Watergate scandals. Remember the Frost interview?

When I had started working in that distant land – I saw live examples of malpractices of creating ‘artificial shortages’ of certain high brands of fuel – and the disease and malaise that went even to the highest echelon levels. When the exposure came out – yours truly Mr. Clean – was asked to run the affairs in Marketing and Operations – after the exposure!

I remember telling the Top Regional guy of the trends – and he fooled me by saying to me – Thanks for telling us! Keep us informed – the subject material of even good Thriller Films! I came to know far later – after the exposure! The East Africans have an expression – You can steal for 39 days – on the 40th you will be exposed!

In my Consultancy career jobs I have met many fellow locals that took ‘great pleasure and enjoyment’ in delaying my due payments – even after delivery and continuous extra works and requirements! Some even stretching to more than 5 to 6 months – yet they are regular – and even pay three fold the rate to the International ones? Some even have denied to pay me – under flimsy and minor technicalities!

Yet still this same week we have suffered a lot of water problems in Qorum Heights! Even the hotlines – the emergencies lines – nobody even answered! Why should we? We have already told some of them – why bother to repeat? Let them too suffer! And so many other things too! How long will these things go on – before there is breaking point? What is really happening to us now? I just dread to hear the answer! Don’t you?

The Basic Necessities of Life!

The description of Necessities in the Dictionary –  Supplies, Provisions, Requirements, Food etc. The meaning of Necessities also encompasses the following:-

  • Something necessary or indispensable: food, shelter, and other necessities of life.
  • The fact of being necessary or indispensable;      indispensability: the      necessity of adequate housing.
  •  An imperative requirement or need for something: the necessity for a quick decision..
  •  The state or fact of being necessary or      inevitable: to face the      necessity of testifying in court.
  •  An unavoidable need or compulsion to do something:      not by choice but by  necessity.

Jungle Book A

Jungle Book B

Images – Jungle Book. In the Jungle Book Cartoon Film – Mowgli The Bear sings on ‘The Bare Necessities’!

  • Look for the bare necessities – The simple bare necessities – Forget about your worries and your strife – I mean the bare necessities – Old Mother Nature’s recipes – That brings the bare necessities of life
  • Wherever I wander, wherever I roam – I couldn’t be fonder of my big home – The bees are buzzing in the tree – To make some honey just for me – When you look under the rocks and plants – And take a glance at the fancy ants – Then maybe try a few
  • Chorus – The bare necessities of life will come to you – They’ll come to you!
  • Look for the bare necessities – The simple bare necessities – Forget about your worries and your strife – I mean the bare necessities – That’s why a bear can rest at ease –
  • With just the bare necessities of life
  • Now when you pick a pawpaw – Or a prickly pear – And you prick a raw paw – Next time beware – Don’t pick the prickly pear by the paw – When you pick a pear – Try to use the claw – But you don’t need to use the claw – When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw – Have I given you a clue ?
  • Chorus – The bare necessities of life will come to you – They’ll come to you!
  • So just try and relax, yeah cool it – Fall apart in my backyard – ‘Cause let me tell you something little britches – If you act like that bee acts, uh uh -You’re working too hard
  • And don’t spend your time looking around – For something you want that can’t be found – When you find out you can live without it – And go along not thinking about it I’ll tell you something true – The bare necessities of life will come to you!

I am not sure who said it – but it could be Pervez ex Pakistan Leader or Mahathir Mohamed – ex Malaysian Leader – who said that people are only more interested in life in The Basic Necessities of Life like Air, Food, Water, Shelter and Clothing – though some would also add Health and Love to the equation. People are lesser interested in higher buildings, bigger roads and flyovers, bigger airports and seaport – or newer industries and projects – or schemes. That is for them to live and survive the Basic Necessities of Life are more paramount and predominant!

Refugees A

Refugees C

Images - Drowned Refugees off Naples

Al Jazeera Television was showing these families that had lost loved ones in the sinking boats refugees cases – and why they travelled in these perilous and dangerous trips to look for life and shelter in Europe, Australia etc. They replied they were already the ‘dead living’ in their own countries and ‘dying slowly’ due to the internal strife in their own countries with constant bombings, killings and kidnappings – drugs, alcoholism and prostitution – and with no jobs or futures even!

They simply had to make the trips in trying ‘for better life and future’ elsewhere – taking on board all their families – including children and even babies too! Despite all these tragedies – people are still trying to go overseas – and have just not given up in trying They are now IDPs – Internal Displaced People (Persons) – and seeing this film documentary – you get ‘live vivid pictures and examples’ of what are the basic necessities of life.

A group of children are seen singing in the end – that they want to go back to their abandoned homes for safety and in peace- and are not really  interested in ‘macaroni and pasta’ etc – but to be back home and free – as others too in the country. Much of the town’s almost 30,000-strong population fled. Some sought sanctuary in Benghazi in the east; others in Tripoli in the west and Sabha in the south. Most of the refugees are black skinned Libyans

. Tawergha 1

Tawergha 2

Images – The Road to Tawergha

The film has pointed and distinct homing  theme of that regime that was able to incite hatred between the Libyans peoples. With the new Libyan government so far failing to embrace the notion of national reconciliation – some Libyans are taking it upon themselves to pursue peace and forgiveness.  And demonstrated in the film of the South African example in Reconciliation – and not in Retribution!

The Road to Tawergha is about war, retribution and the difficult road to reconciliation that Libya must travel if it is to emerge from the shadows of Gaddafi’s 42-year reign. It is also about the Basic Necessities of Life – and how far people can be pushed in its pursuits!

It was released on both Vinyl and Compact Disk in 2006. It is typical of The Datsuns style. With loud guitar, a lead break and dominant vocals. Electricians describe it when ‘electricity ‘trips down’ (shuts down!)!

With the very start of this column over 12 years ago – I had resolved to speak the truth – even if it will cost me! And cost me it did – but that has not deterred me! My first article was titled More Dangerous and Troubled Waters Ahead! And everything that I had said in it – and others that followed – all came out in truth and in reality!

Mark Twain had said – Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest! Also in our HadithIf one of you sees something wrong, let him change it with his own hand; if he cannot, then raise voice and speak out against it; if he cannot do even that, then dislike or hate it in your heart, but that is the lowest degree of faith! And on Truth – Say what is true, although it may be bitter and displeasing to people! – by Baihaqi.

The other day I had gone to this Electronic shop to buy a new laptop after my current one went obsolete. There were three Sales People – all expatriates – attending to one European Expatriate. So I sidled to the one salesman on the outer and asked him about the models that I was interested and within my limited budget. Just like I would like to drive the Top Model Range Rover – but I have to consent to staying with my 8 year old banger Camry – because I cannot get the Hire Purchase to buy a new one – even if I can afford it – because of my age. You see I am over 55 – and already put in the list of the ‘living dead’ here! That is how life is now – and how the cookie crumbles!

Anyway, the more friendlier of the lot – guess it was a Filipino – pointed to the direction of where I could see the machines that I was interested in! Maybe he saw me intently looking at the machines – or maybe he thought I would steal or spoil something – then he reluctantly came over! As I had done my research already – I told him to reduce the price – because I needed an up to date Printer also! The good man did!

As I was going out – this nice European lady – from the goodness of her heart – turned to the Salesmen reprimanding them – See you all ignored him – and he bought these things from you! Yet all of you were concentrating with us – ignoring him – and all we are doing here is ‘window shopping’! Let that be a lesson for you in the future! That cooled me down greatly from the ‘milk of humane kindness’ – and made me feel so bad for a considerable while after that!

And this is the point I want to make here! Maybe there are a few bad eggs or fish in the basket – but the trend and approach is ‘controlled apathy and disdain’ against the locals – for no other reason than dislike and ridicule – and contempt! They try hard to hide it – but if you have even an iota of perception – you will not fail to notice it! Especially nowadays! I do not why these things are happening to us locals now? Maybe we are all made to blame to what is happening to some of them – so the whole lot of us have to be penalised and to be punished in turn!

This is not only in shops – but in the Offices too – including the so-called high profile places – and more even by the locals to their fellow locals – and especially in situations where the expatriates still dominate and control – and the top locals are just window dressings – or ‘figure heads’ only! With all the works and initiatives still being done by the expatriates – and who are ready and willing for the local boss to take points and credit – even if they (expatriates) remain not in the limelight and exposure!

The Omanis Are Strangers In Their Own Land!

Woe to you if you antagonise the Mafia lots – and a few of them have ‘the ears’ of the local bosses. The Local bosses are good Actors, Performers and Impersonators – and if you go to complain and grudge – they pretend to be attentive and caring – whilst all the time working against you! I know I am talking of few misguided cases – but their damages are more harmful and devastating – especially if they come from the so-called high profile places! Red lines have been crossed so many times before – but people just do not care – and still keep pushing!

Omani Men

The Omanis Are Strangers In Their Own Land!

I do not know how long these things will go on – before there is an explosion – like that cinder fire burning underneath and within heatedly and unseen – until it just surfaces – intently and heatedly! I have said so many times in this column – Do not bite the hand that feeds you – because you may end licking the boot that kicks you! They also say – Those that do not learn from history – are apt to repeat the mistakes of the past!

Take Care!
