Einstein

Albert Einstein is widely credited with saying “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”.

I got the above from a close friend who had read my posting below in Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google Plus –

Justice in Islam –  https://majidall.com/2016/07/26/justice-in-islam/

He had sent me a joke (Swahili) of two drunkards. They found a mirror on the street. So Drunkard 1 took a long good look at it and said to his colleague – You know what? This guy looks very familiar but I have forgotten his name. The other drunkard snatched it from him – then after looking at it too lamented –You mean that you cannot recognize me? My friend you really disappoint me – this is me!

 IN FINALITY!

We now meet IN FRONT of God Allah SWT-

Surat Al Baqarah The Cow – 2.6: Indeed, those who disbelieve – it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them – they will not believe.

Baqarah 2.7.
God has set a seal upon their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a covering. For them is a mighty punishment (in the Hereafter).

Baqarah 2.8. Among people are some who say, “We believe in God and in the Last Day,” although they are not believers.

Prophet Salih said to the people: “O my people! I have indeed conveyed to you the Message of my Lord, and have given you good advice but you like not good advisers!” (Al-A’raf, 7:79)

Justice In Islam!

Justice

When I was studying in Secondary School in Tanzania in the early 1960s – they were introducing Socialism as a Compulsory Subject for all the students. If you failed in the subject you just did not get your Secondary School Leaving Certificate! It was as simple as that!

In one of the topics they were preaching of how Law and Order was being broken up by ‘the enemies of The State’ by mocking and making fun (trifling!) the State Institutions – especially those involved in keeping ‘the Safety and the Security’ of The State apparatus!

Once ‘they’ have done that – that is the The Enemies – the rest becomes easy!

In one of the famous phrases by Mao – The then China Communist Leader – was ‘Peace comes from the barrel of the gun’!  It scared me to bits and pieces!

They even talked about one Being The Judge, Jury and Executioner Stuff etc!

As we watch around us things going wrong all around us it is important that we remain ever vigilant and alert of Protecting and Preserving our beloved Nation. It is noted that we Omanis are loyal, trusting respecting and welcoming peoples – and some may even label us as being ‘weak and docile’ for that matter!

I feel, therefore, that it is important to REMIND OURSELVES of sense of Fairness, Justice in Islam – lest we deviate – whether inadvertently or by default even.

Justice In Islam!

Allah God spoke to His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in this manner:

“O My slaves, I have forbidden injustice for Myself and forbade it also for you.  So avoid being unjust to one another.” (Saheeh Muslim)

Thus, justice represents moral rectitude and fairness, since it means things should be where they belong.

The Importance of Justice

The Quran, the sacred scripture of Islam, considers justice to be a supreme virtue.  It is a basic objective of Islam to the degree that it stands next in order of priority to belief in God’s exclusive right to worship (Tawheed) and the truth of Muhammad’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prophethood.  God declares in the Quran:

“God commands justice and fair dealing…” (Quran 16:90)

Prophet Muhammad underscored the importance of rulers being just in one of his famous sayings.

“There are seven categories of people whom Allah will shelter under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. (One will be) a just leader.” (Saheeh Muslim)

The Qur’an warns believers against subjective factors or personal emotions leading them to deviate from the path of justice, which is also the path of Islam, but it weighs heavily upon those who are required to adjudicate in disputes or to give judgment on other issues.

“O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah and be just witnesses and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: That is nearer to piety, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do.” (Al-Maidah: 8)

Muslims are also called upon to rise above social evils such as nepotism and favoritism. Almighty Allah says in the Qur’an,

“O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do.” (Al-Nisa: 135)

 http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/iraq-inquiry-report-statement-by-sir-john-chilcot-full-military-action-was-not-last-resort-1569230

This is what I said in My First Article in my columns in The Oman Daily Observer dated April 23 2003 – 13 years ago – titled – More Dangerous and Troubled Waters Ahead! This after the Iraq invasion. Also reproduced in My Books – see Images below!

*****

The Article – Reproduced Below –

Episode 1.

More Dangerous and Troubled Waters Ahead!

The Chapter aims to describe the different aspects and scenarios of the Gulf war. Compares the different Gulf Wars from a personal perspective and experience and the problems then in his old company on this, and foretells more troubles and dangers ahead (some which had happened and actually materialized later on). Start of the series to be printed in The Oman Daily Observer. Please remember this was written immediately after the Invasion of Iraq!

In the First Gulf war, family members were split between those who supported removing Saddam from Kuwait by force and those who did not the support war option but by ‘talk, persuasion and coercion’ methods.

***

I was expecting to start off this column  (after getting the  ‘green light’ from the esteemed paper) with light hearted and humour laced articles, but then the Iraq war dawned on us, and it took a dramatic turn to write something else on ‘the war’ instead!

Now those of  you who know me well would recall that I am not by profession or even by design a military analyst or military expert, or even a political expert one at that (if you can call being a Human Resources professional as is also involved in sort of  ‘wars’ between Management and Staff, and to draw a ‘thin line’ between getting your next salary payment (if you annoy the Management!) and to see ‘professionalism and ethics are played’ in dealing and in handling with staff problems, issues and grievances!)

However, I do read a lot of newspapers (at least 4 daily including from the UAE).  I watch BBC world, CNN, Euro News etc. and to get the flavour from the other side Al-Jazeera TV, Al-Arabi, MBC, LBC and other Arab channels.  So you may say ‘I am sort of informed’ – especially as I also spend at least 2 hours a day on the Internet – glossing and grouping all the news from different networks.

So please forgive the layman’s views on what he considers ‘his informed opinions and ideas on this war – though I can hear it being said – ‘Those of you who think they know everything, are upsetting those of us who know that we do!’.

First of all, let us draw a comparison of this war (3rd Gulf War) with the 1st one in 1991.

It was in the first week in January 1991 when a great meeting was held in my previous company to vet opinions of senior staff in Human Resources of what were the ‘options’ of the company then, especially vis-à-vis Expatriate Families and their possible urgent evacuations from Oman, especially ‘those families who will want to leave at a hurry!’.

I was the sole voice who said that we should prepare for the war and the contingencies in retrospect. I got on a scare technique to frighten expatriates (or was it I was anti-expatriate?) – and the beating up the war ‘drums’.  On the 17th January, 1991,  I was vindicated, as the great Company had to go on a ‘panic run’ when expatriate families wanted to leave out on the next quickest available flight out of the country.  Then everybody said “we should have listened to M!” – let alone that day after the meeting – I was the loneliest person on the face of the earth with even my peers colleagues turning up against me! I felt like sinking into the ground – and became so sick and had to go early back home!

Nobody had asked me to this day.  Why I was so sure or convinced that there would be a war?.  You may ‘call it gut feelings’, but I think it was more intelligence, sense and reason related – because you do not issue ultimatums to ‘powerful (bully!) figures’ like Saddam – and expect him to follow it!

Then this Third Gulf War.  At our usual Friday family gathering, again I was the sole person who said ‘there is going to be a war’ and we had better be prepared for it!

Again one or two of my family members (this time, as no longer working – Early Retired, Voluntary that  is!) ‘There he goes again war-mongering – if he says it, it will happen!’ (Somebody should shut him up – unsaid!). The war came again, as I had predicted.

Again it was a question of ‘intelligence, sense and reason’ prevailing.  It was not a question of ‘weapons of mass destruction’ (WMD) – it was simply and smugly put – a question of removing ‘the threat of Saddam rule’ in Iraq. Threat to whom? That is still a million dollar question!

Nobody noticed the small print at the bottom.  ‘Even if, Saddam will leave, the ‘Allied’ Forces would still go in! Or I think it was Qusay, son of Saddam who had ‘admitted that we did have WMDs before, but not anymore’.

They always say in wars (or near wars) the first  casualty is the ‘truth’ and all that goes with it!

Another comparison between the 1st Gulf war and this one, at least on ‘circles’ I know well – that is my friends peers and family!

In the First Gulf war, members were split between those who supported removing Saddam from Kuwait by force and those who did not support the war option but rather by talk, persuasion and coercion’ methods.

This time though some may not be too keen on Saddam, but they were all against it with no exception, including the kids who are favourite of  Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pepsi and Cola, Showtime, Orbit, American films etc. Of course do not forget the Dodge Durango (and previous Pontiac Bonneville) parked outside the villa!

This should be very ‘telling’ on the ‘Allied’ Forces what peoples in the streets think – , including the so-called vast silent majority’!

……. Rest is history!

QED – I rest my case – with all happening around us now – 13 years after The Iraq Invasion!

End.

The original book was published on around May 2003 in Oman by Al Nahda Printing Press.

Surprisingly, despite several books later – there is still a large following who still think that this was my Best Book! I would not know – but surely it was My First Book! Compiling all my articles in my columns then Between Us Only! And At My Workplace in The Oman Daily Observer!

You can still find this book still in many offices in Oman – and that is really touching to me as The Author! The other day my brother in law MYS was ‘scolding me’ that I should have translated this book into Arabic – instead of the book Arabic – Behind The Wheel! – www.createspace.com/4875352  He is one of my most advertent Reader and fan!

As there are only few copies left circulating around, I thought it fit to preserve the works by redoing the book! I was debating to add pictures and images – and to sort out by topics – but in the end decided to try as best as to add some images in! The aforementioned were ‘the usual pointers and complaints’ mainly raised on the book. The first book was sponsored by The MB Group of Companies and carried their Corporate Logos.

Many of the articles talk of increasing extremism, fundamentalism – of plain evil etc. – and the tear and wear – the breaking up of The Society Fabric! 13 years later – The Truth arises – and what is most astonishing (shocking!) is that most of the things I had said and predicted then had come to pass! And still folding – and as prevailing relevant too – to date!

It was always my dream to redo the book on my own! Today that dream has become a reality! I hope you will enjoy reading the book again of past memories – a sense of Déjà Vu!

Despite strong temptations, I decided just to stick to make the book as best same as The Original version! I have used the book image of The Sequel book as front cover for this one – because honestly I did not like the previous one of boy whispering to boy – and thus an opportune time to redo it!

Tell me what you think!

Best wishes and regards,

A The Television Cartoon Series – Dubai – UAE!

Abû Hurayrah relates that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever removes one of the hardships of a believing soul, Allah will remove from him one of the distresses on the Hereafter.

Whoever solves someone else’s problem, Allah will make things easy for him in this world and the Hereafter… Allah is ever assisting His servant as long as that servant is helping his brother.” [Sahîh Muslim (4867)]

I was watching these cartoon TV programmes beamed by Dubai Sama TV and they are always my Top Watchers – especially in The Holy Month of Ramadhan Fasting! By Fanar Productions, a leading production company specialized in animated content, and Etisalat, the main sponsor of the seventh season of Shaabiat Al Cartoon.

Haider Mohammed is the creator of the cartoon series Shaabiat Al Cartoon in Dubai UAE! From humble beginnings in his cartoons – he is now a famous and well-to-do UAE personality! That all comes from The Dubai Ruler personal involvement to see UAE talents are encouraged and promoted with material support and assistance – something we can all learn here!

Shaabiat, a word that means “rural neighbourhood” in Arabic, follows the lives of a group of families and individuals living in a small Dubai neighbourhood. There are 24 characters from countries throughout Africa, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. Each episode focuses on different individuals and their quirky troubles.

At the centre of the series, acting as anchors, however, are the characters Shambee and Bo Mhayer. The duo follow the tradition of all great comedy partners: they are from different sides of life but need one another to make sense of the world.

Shambee could be the Emirati equivalent of the TV show Married With Children’s classic crank Al Bundy (who was played by US actor Ed O’Neill). Middle-class and disenchanted by his marital life, he is perpetually in search of respect but often falls short of winning it due to his dim-witted ways.
Bo Mhayer is a true Bedouin: his rugged views are formed by the tough lessons of the desert, leaving him both confused by and slightly distrustful of Dubai.

B The Messenger (Facebook) Message!

The Message came from a good friend asking me why I was not writing anymore my columns in The Oman Daily Observer – Between Us Only! Also At My Workplace! The columns were killed off in August 2014 by more a ‘technical hitch’ per se than anything else.

I told the guy I have my websites where I now put in my articles and about my books – but that too I have now given up seeing there is no material support nor assistance – but just pain, heartaches and the feelings of being let down, betrayal and wasted efforts and loyalties – and instead getting beatings and fear – and so much hurt and pain – that even I actually cry sometimes by what is happening to me now!

See my Posts in Social Media recently – Feeling so sad today – even if it is my Birthday! Feeling very sick and still ailing in life!

So he beseeches me to continue writing – and do it as a good deed in my life to get good deeds from Allah God – for ‘positively highlighting social issues that need more care and attention in The Society – even if the monetary and other support are missing – and you feel left out open in the cold – not only not recognized but also facing extreme hardships and difficulties – and even if people have short memories about you and your achievements (the Dubai Fanar Story!) – but they may have longer memories for other things!

Then he pleads to me – via Messenger – Please write about Special Children – Down Syndrome and Autism – I have a Special Child – she is having Down Syndrome – and I gave up everything in my life to try to give her a normal life and against all odds! It is a wonderful experience even if painful – and here they are now (slowly being) accepted and inter reacting with nature (and Society)!

Last few years back I wrote a personal letter for one friend to a British CEO – where he was facing termination for being habitually late – because he too had a child with severe bouts of Down Syndrome! Whether we like to accept it or not – but these Europeans (Americans) are More Muslim than what we propagate to be – because the CEO was more understanding and compassionate than our own – sadly and tragically too!

So let us all learn a bit here! So hopefully there could be more acceptance, kindness, forgiveness, compassion and understanding – especially in this Holy Month of Fasting of Ramadhan! You can always get more information and details in The Social Media!

Last few months back – we were invited to one family and saw how they were scolding their child with Down Syndrome because the boy spilt some juice on their new carpet new hose! It hurt me so much – and left early from the place!

This may shock you! Please do visit!

AUTISM

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are characterized by social-interaction difficulties, communication challenges and a tendency to engage in repetitive behaviors. However, symptoms and their severity vary widely across these three core areas. Taken together, they may result in relatively mild challenges for someone on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum. For others, symptoms may be more severe, as when repetitive behaviors and lack of spoken language interfere with everyday life.

As illustrated by the graph on the left, the basic symptoms of autism are often accompanied other medical conditions and challenges. These, too, can vary widely in severity.

Autism 4

While autism is usually a life-long condition, all children and adults benefit from interventions, or therapies, that can reduce symptoms and increase skills and abilities. Although it is best to begin intervention as soon as possible, the benefits of therapy can continue throughout life.
Did you know that …

• Autism now affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys
• Autism prevalence figures are growing
• Autism is one of the fastest-growing developmental disorders in the U.S.
• Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average
• Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
• There is no medical detection or cure for autism
National Institutes of Health Funds Allocation
• Total 2012 NIH budget: $30.86 billion
• Of this, only $169 million goes directly to autism research. This represents 0.55% of total NIH funding.

SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN!

In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of children with Down syndrome who are being diagnosed as having autism or autistic spectrum disorder. These children are then referred to as having a ‘dual diagnosis’ i.e. two co-existing conditions.

However, it is not easy to diagnose autism in children who already have a learning disability and there is not clear agreement on the numbers of children with Down syndrome who do have autism or features of autism. Some authors argue that the diagnosis is missed because children with Down syndrome are thought to be sociable and, if this is true, some children and their families could be missing out on treatment and services they might benefit from.

Others are concerned that there may be a tendency to over-diagnose autism in children with Down syndrome. This could lead to changed and lowered expectations for children’s progress as well as distress for families.

One Term, Many Definitions:

“Special Needs” is an umbrella underneath which a staggering array of diagnoses can be wedged. Children with special needs may have mild learning disabilities or profound cognitive impairment; food allergies or terminal illness; developmental delays that catch up quickly or remain entrenched; occasional panic attacks or serious psychiatric problems. The designation is useful for getting needed services, setting appropriate goals, and gaining understanding for a child and stressed family.

Minuses and Pluses:

“Special needs” are commonly defined by what a child can’t do – by milestones unmet, foods banned, activities avoided, experiences denied. These minuses hit families hard, and may make “special needs” seem like a tragic designation. Some parents will always mourn their child’s lost potential, and many conditions become more troubling with time. Other families may find that their child’s challenges make triumphs sweeter, and that weaknesses are often accompanied by amazing strengths.

Different Concerns:

Pick any two families of children with special needs, and they may seem to have little in common. A family dealing with developmental delays will have different concerns than one dealing with chronic illness, which will have different concerns than one dealing with mental illness or learning problems or behavioral challenges.

Medical Issues:

Medical issues for children include serious conditions like cancer and heart defects, muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis; chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes; congenital conditions like cerebral palsy and dwarfism; and health threats like food allergies and obesity.

Children with medical issues may require numerous tests, long hospital stays, expensive equipment, and accommodations for disabilities. Their families have to deal with frequent crises, uncertainty, and worry.

Behavior Issues:

Children with behavior issues don’t respond to traditional discipline. With diagnoses like ADHD, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Dysfunction of Sensory Integration, and Tourette Syndrome, they require specialized strategies that are tailored to their specific abilities and disabilities.

If those strategies are not developed and used, kids with behavior issues throw their families into chaos and are seriously at risk for school problems. Their parents need to be flexible and creative.

Developmental Issues:

Developmental disabilities are some of the most devestating for a family to deal with, changing visions of the future and providing immediate difficulties in caring for and educating a child. Diagnoses like autism, Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities often cause children to be removed from the mainstream, and parents must be fierce advocates to make sure their children receive the services, therapy, schooling, and inclusion they need and deserve.

Learning Issues:

Children with learning disabilities like dyslexia and Central Auditory Processing Disorder struggle with schoolwork regardless of their intellectual abilities. They require specialized learning strategies to meet their potential and avoid self-esteem problems and behavioral difficulties. Parents of learning-challenged kids need to be persistent both in working with their reluctant learners and with the schools that must provide the help these children need.

Mental Health Issues:

A child’s problems with anxiety or depression can sneak up on parents; problems withattachment may smack them right in the face. Living with a child with mental health issues can put family members on a roller coaster of mood swings and crises and defiance. Parents have to find the right professionals to help, and make hard decisions about therapy, medications, and hospitalization. The consequences of missed clues and wrong guesses can be significant.

Common Concerns:

Although every special-needs child is different and every family is unique, there are some common concerns that link parents of challenged kids, including getting appropriate care and accommodations; promoting acceptance in the extended family, school and community; planning for an uncertain future; and adjusting routines and expectations.

Parents of children with special needs are often more flexible, compassionate, stubborn and resilient than other parents. They have to be.

About My Late Father PBUH.

September 16th 2015

Father

Day before yesterday my granddaughter Sibel was in tantrums because I guess she missed her Mother who had to go to Dubai for a day because of Official Business. Today she was very happy with her Mother’s return – and even hymning Twinkle – Twinkle Little Star! The tune is there – if not the words!

I wondered out aloud and comparing my granddaughter time with our times – because even in the bloody Zanzibar Revolution with killings and atrocities committed against Omani Arabs especially – even outside our street – but we were afraid to express our feelings of acute shock and fears! Afraid that if you said something out of turn – you may end with a slap – even if you were so scared and afraid!

Our children nowadays – and their children too – have more freedom and expression = and show of real emotions – unhindered and unblocked – than we ever dreamt to have! Our times were different to theirs now – Allah God Be Praised.

Our Late Father knew top VIPs in Oman. He rode the same donkey to school. I have written a lot about him in My Books – www.myownmajid.com

He always forbade us of living beyond our means – and taking bribes and corruption! He said to us – Do not disgrace yourself to go to Big Famous People to ask for favours and recognition! Remember your roots as we are just Poor Peoples and with Simply No Wastah or Connections! See the article I wrote on him below!

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-old-man-had-said-majid-al-suleimany

http://www.majidbooks.com/?tag=show-no-dogs-fear

My grandparents were travelling from Manah Nizwa – place of birth – and as just mere teens to go to Africa. My Father who was just getting into adult hood saw a ‘pretty Omani girl’ – my Elder Mother – and fell in love with her! He refused to go to Zanzibar with my grandparents despite ‘repeated canning and beatings! So in the end they allowed him to get married to her – and they left without him! When his children were 12 (my elder brother) and 10 (my elder sister) respectively only then he went with his family to Tanzania. This was during the turbulent dark days of our Omani history when Omanis left in hordes to look ‘for greener pastures outside’.

Today I had an unpleasant dealing again with The Newspaper where I wrote my columns for 14 years – before The mainly sadly Indian Mafias and The Old Guards abruptly ended my columns – because I was refusing not To Speak The Truth – and pushing the dirt into the already piled up stinking carpet!

With due and sincere apologies!

Al Hamdu Lillah. Allah Is Great!

Best wishes and regards,

My Letter to The Oman Daily Observer!

September 17, 2015

On Covering My Books in The Press even if I wrote for them for 14 years before unceremoniously and abruptly ended.

 35A - Front Cover

About My Thirty Five Books!

They covered a Dr Asya Al Bualy who wrote a book about one Fatma Barwani Ninja and the function was opened by HE The Minister of Information of Oman.

The woman was married to one Yusuf Himid who was instrumental in Zanzibar Revolution causing over 50000 Omanis to be killed in Bloody Zanzibar Revolution. Yet her story of the wife novels were opened ceremoniously by our own Minister.

This is My Apology Letter to them and then wrote in Facebook etc about My Late Father. Al Hamdu Lillah

Please accept my apologies for writing to express my dissatisfaction for your book coverage and presentation by HE MOI. It is none of my business and it was sent at a weak moment when our jealousy and envy streak kicked in that I had not received even a quarter of similar treatment with 37 books and even on more important serious topics that the country really needs even in Arab Management  – Road Safety etc.

I have to realise I come from an Arab Omani Interior born poor Father unknown and with no Wastah and my Mother born in Zanzibar even if grandparents are Interior also but went to Africa in their teens.

Please accept my sincere apologies. There is no need to fight these things but simply to accept the status quo that without Wastah you are mere nothing trifle unfortunately now in our country as it is.

Please carry on the good works!

Ma Salaamah! You will not hear from me ever again.  Byeee!

alhamdulillah[1]

SHOW NO FEAR – DOGS WILL NOT HEAR.

OR SHOW NO DOGS FEAR.

Show No Dogs Fear!

DOG-300x207[1]

Show No Dogs Fear!

At the age of 8 years old, four decades ago when we were residing in Mafia Island in Tanzania, my father and I met some wild dogs when we were moving about the island. My late father (died 12 years ago – PBUH) cautioned me to hold on to his hand ‘and show no fear, because dogs easily smell fear’.

But if you act brave and show no fear, they either leave you alone or move away’. At first I did not believe this was to be possible, but the dogs did exactly like dad said they would, and left us alone-despite a lot of initial ‘hard’ barking earlier on.

Later on, I used to play with some puppies after getting over my initial fear of dogs. I did not know then that dogs were considered as ‘unclean animals and to be avoided in touch especially’ – because the puppy had followed me to the Masjid (Mosque). Yet I wanted to pray in the congregation – and someone told my late Father – Sheikh Said, your son Majid was playing with the puppies – and yet he wants to pray now with us!

I got such a beating that I have never forgotten it to this day. You cannot blame the puppies – because for them a Masjid looks just like another building from their side – and it is up to you to keep them away – and actually not play with them in the first instance!

At times in life, one meets with a lot of situations like above when you are called upon to make difficult and hard decisions and choices. Life is full of making tough decisions and choices. One option is to do nothing and pretend that the problem is not there, the other is as is being said ‘to catch the bull by its horns’ when you have to act – sometimes fast too!

Sometimes you make decisions in life which at the time may seem right, only to find out later that you should have acted otherwise. Or you leave an option which you think is wrong, only to find out later that it was the better idea and choice. But the saying always holds true-‘those who dare-actually win’! Those who never try, never win’! Or as they say – the birds fly – because they know they can – or you you can never know how far you can go; till you have tried first!

Sometimes situations force you to behave in a way that you would not normally behave otherwise. This I had found out recently very difficult to pursue, but in the end I did so despite my own personal first inclinations and feelings – that my sanity, integrity and respects must first come first and foremost – so I quit the place after a long goodbye. I would have eventually been the loser, and those adversaries and those against me from the outset as the winners.

My late father used to advise me from the incident of the dogs. He used to tell me ‘if you show fear, or run away, the dogs like it more- because you are condescending yourself to their own level-and they will chase you for sure’.

My late father used to advise me from the incident of the dogs. He used to tell me ‘if you show fear, or run away, the dogs like it more- because you are condescending yourself to their own level-and they will chase you for sure’.

He also advised us his children – If you are in a dhow (boat) where everyone is One-Eyed – including the Captain – close one eye – otherwise they will come and take out one eye in their fits of envy and jealousy – and you never know because they could blind you completely in their eagerness to take out one eye so you can be like them!

They also say – do not bang your head against brick walls – only you have your head hurt and swollen in the process – and the brick wall is not even touched! You simply cannot remove people’s bias and dim-witted subjective individualistic views – so why try at all!

It is also said by the Romans that those that the gods want to destroy they make them lose their senses – and make them not see, hear or speak too in the process.

So why fight the system and the situation. There is no point or added use or advantage. You become the victim of circumstances by your own hand by showing you are different from others – and for making a stand and for being forthright and firm in your stand – views, focus and determination! Go with the tide – even if all the fish are dead – act dead also!

There are more important things in life than to be listened to and to be heard your case and situation. Even our own Great Prophet PBUH met the same experience from the idol worshippers in Mecca! And the hypocrites that pretended to go on – when they were actually against our Great Prophet PBUH. People destined for doom and destruction cannot be saved – especially when they do not want to be saved – so move along – let it go – let it pass!

The Chinese have this expression that I really like – If you are digging a grave for your enemy; dig two – and keep one for yourself! This saying speaks volumes in itself! Don’t you agree?

There is also this point as in our Religion. Do not ask for any help or favours from human beings – because you lose your standing, respects and esteem by doing so! Ask only your Allah SWT – God Only – because He likes to be asked – and to give!

It then made me convinced that I MUST GO ON NOW before it is too late! Especially for myself – because no one knows how long we shall live (leave?) in this world!

In one of the scenes in The Film – Moses –The Ten Commandments – The Great Prophet (PBUH) is seen to lament why he was chosen to lead his people and was asking God why it was so – and had not left him alone to be just a simple normal person without this heavy burden and load on his shoulders.

In our Islamic Holy Book – The Holy Quraan – in Surat (verse) Ad DhuhaThe Glorious Morning Light – our Great Prophet PBUH is told 3 – Your Guardian Lord Has Not Forsaken You, Nor is He Displeased6 – Did He not find you an Orphan and Give you shelter and care? 7 – He found you wandering And he gave you guidance – 8 – And He found you In need, and made you Independent – 9 – Therefore treat not the orphan with harshness 10 – Nor repulse him who asks (needs) – 11- But the Bounty of The Lord Rehearse and Proclaim!

In this Surat (verse), the vicissitudes of human life are referred to, and a message of hope and consolation is given to man’s soul from God’s past mercies – and he is bidden to pursue the path of goodness and proclaim the bounties of God. It talks about the usual scorn people have of people who come forward to ask for help and assistance – and are ignored – and their losing faith aspects.

It talks about being kind to such people – though helping people is by choice and is most encouraged in Islam. If need be, turning away such needy people has to be done with kindness and gentleness – and not harshness and or ugly cruel cutting approach – because it is the same God that gave you and also facing you – and that needy person who wants help from you now!

One of the people that I greatly admire is Gandhi. On the subject this is what he said – You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. He further said – I look only to the good qualities of men. Not being faultless myself, I won’t presume to probe into the faults of others.

There is also this expression in Swahili – Anaye kunyima maharagwe, ana kupunguziya ushuuzi! Those who deny you red kidney beans – just deny (reduce) you the gas (farts)..

During this difficult choice, I had, my late father had come to me in my dreams to remind me of this incident (or was it by telepathy?). I am determined to win – with God’s Grace and Blessings I am convinced that I will win Inshallah Amin God Willing. It is not how many times you fall – but how many times you get up – and keep going. I have had many falls in the past – but I got up – and went on.

What The Old Man Had Said!

Written in July 2009!

Father

Image My Late Father PBUH

During these difficult times, I thought it is essential, imperative and fundamentally important to share this one with you today on My Late Father (PBUH).

Hopefully all of us and The Younger Generation can learn from it all – Inshallah! Though admittedly I feel still so empty, vacuum, desolate and despondent that all I had tried to caution, counsel and warn in my books went to waste – and it seemed nobody had read my books at all. Especially A Cry For Help! I had talked about the increasing expectations – and the lack of tolerances and patience – especially amongst the youngsters especially – and how some few misbehaving expatriates would cause a great deal of trouble and havoc here..

My Late Father was not that educated – nor did he speak any good English – but my late Father was the most educated, intelligent, smart, wise and pragmatic person that I ever saw in my life!. Whilst there are many problems Father to Son Relationships – My Father and I were Best Friends to say the least. We could communicate and touch base at the highest levels. I try to do the very same with my children too.

This is an extract about My Late Father (Peace Be Upon Him) and from My Book A Cry For Help! – A.15 – The Oman FM Radio Interview – in June 2007. The Announcer is Mrs. Judith Razaq (JR) and me (MS)

JR – Majid – Who has the greatest influence in your life than anybody else?

MS – I think it is my Father more than anybody else because my Father was straight forward.

He made a lot of friends and he also made a lot of enemies too. Because if somebody had upset him- he never went about a long way to tell him so. My Father sometimes when we invite guests to our house – he is dead now- so Father – Father please Father -Please put the brakes on! He would say – the food is for you – eat it – I am not going to tell you more than once! You are the guests – the food is for you – please eat it. I tell Father – you do not have to tell them these things! You know he is straight forward. And he has been telling us- that you should not be scared or to be afraid!

Always tell the truth even if it may cost you – you must do the right correct same thing. But please do not go for lies and deceptions.

My late Father was particularly against taking loans (interests!) and living beyond our means – or trying to brag and show off in life. He also told us – Do not be deceived you have a rich powerful family, relative or friend – because nobody is going to help you – except yourself and your Lord only! To Him you go for help and salvation – and nobody else – if you want to be happy and live comfortably in this world! Live within your means – and do not overspent – or be stingy in life! Also earn your living honestly and sincerely!

And yes – Do not be jealous and envious of others especially within your own family! Because God does not like this in men. He is The Giver and The Provider – and He decides whom to give (more or less) or not at all. When you become jealous and envious – it means in other words that you are challenging The Lord himself!

Do not ask for kindness, mercies and favours from anyone in this life – except the Lord only! But if somebody came to you for help and assistance – help him – because The Lord favours those who are kind and compassionate to their fellow human beings – and The Lord is particularly angry on those who can help but do not – it is the same Lord who gave you that is denying him – and the Lord is testing you now!

Do not be obstinate and difficult in life – and listen to the advices of your parents and elders. Respect others and their belongings – just as you are doing yours and would not want others to harm yours either. A good Muslim is one who wants the same good things for himself for others to have too! Work hard and diligently for yourself and for your family – and never put all your faith and trust in people – because they can let you down badly and unexpectedly!

My Father ended being just a Grocery Shopkeeper in his life – though he rode the same donkey to school with people who were his peers in becoming great public figures and very rich and powerful elites – from his home village in Hail Al Ghaaf – Quriyaat – and after his parents had moved from Manah in Nizwa!

If we only had listened – To what the Old Man had said!! A great man lived – and went! May Allah God Protect and Preserve us all – Amin… Take Care!

Stick Together As One!

As kids, we have read all these stories. Most of us have been told these stories by our parents, grandparents or have read them in school too!! How come we conveniently have forgotten all these now?

This is the story of the Father laying on his deathbed and calling his children around him. Then he gives each child a stick and asks them to break the stick in two. Each one of them is able to do that. Then he takes all the sticks and ties them up in a bundle. He then asks each child to do the same. None of them are able to break up the bundle.

Each one of them looks in amazement and awe at their dying father and what he is now up to. Then the father cautions – so long as you stick together as one, nothing will ever happen to you in your lives. But if you get out of the bundle and be as a single stick, everyone outside can break you into two. You must always be together and act as one.

Remember this always my children! If you want to bring in drama and heroics in, the father soon dies after saying this. In real life, the father lives a bit longer, before the last breath leaves his body, giving enough time for his children to do their home works and comprehend their father’s teachings

***

He had said – Do not do bad things to others! Especially to someone who considers you as a friend – trusts you – and has simply done nothing wrong to you! Because – What Goes Around; Comes Around! You will be punished in this world itself – before even they bury you in your grave!

A Short Story! Are You A Prawn? 1

Are You A Prawn?

By Majid Al Suleimany

August 20th 2015

I had posted the below poster in the Social Media and it received unbelievable overwhelming positive responses – and I wished I had received similar at least with my Books Postings at least!

Prawns

A long time ago when my sister was alive – I visited Tanzania on holidays! My late sister PBUH Allah Rahmah had invited me for lunch! Guess what was on the menu –all prawns and lobsters – coconut rice and grilled barbequed lobsters and prawns – and with the coconut curry lobsters! She found me not partaking the food with the zeal she had expected to emanate from me – as she knew that I do like my food!

I told her – My sister you forgot that I do not eat sea food except fish only? She was devastated – and she lamented that she had gone very early in the morning that day to buy the prawns and lobsters that had costed her quite a lot for a widowed at home woman! In the end she ordered for me just plain chicken curry from a nearby restaurant – and I ate with the rice!

Crab

Crab

When I was a student in UK in the early 1970s – there was a Big Students Annual Party thrown up by Shell International – the parent company of Petroleum Development Oman PDO which had sent me for the course in UK! Everybody was enjoying themselves with the lobsters and prawn infested dinner with exception of you know who- who got served separately with chicken legs instead!

At a Departmental party years later – my Top Boss who simply hated me as a person and my guts was boasting loudly – already top drunk – that only ‘poofs and sissies’ he knows do not eat prawns, crabs and lobsters – that were the main menu! So indirectly he may have known that I do not eat these things – and perhaps to make me sad and miserable?

lobster[1]

So from that day onwards, I always gave an excuse not to attend any more parties from his side! Ironically – and what they say – what goes around; comes around – because many had ‘food poisoning’ from the lobsters I gather – and had to go for treatment at the Medical clinic – except the Host who seemed more protected by the alcohol!

A Big Joke after the weekend in the Offices! I understand that is why Her Majesty The Queen never partakes sea food on her travels abroad!

prawns 2

At this party above – a good Indian friend volunteered an ‘explanation’ as to why I do not eat lobsters etc.! He used reincarnation theology being himself a Hindu person – though top drunk too – that perhaps in my past life I was a lobster – so how can you eat your own kind? That is cannibalism – he asserted! Though I wanted to challenge him if he was sure of ‘lobsters not eating lobsters theory’ – but I thought better of it – and went just quiet! What about ‘big lobsters’ eating ‘smaller ones’? I could Google eat – but who really cares? Certainly not I!

At a family gathering one day my son in law Ali pinned me down to offer a ‘logical explanation’ as to why I ‘do not eat lobsters, prawns and crabs’ – his nickname being Ali The Fisherman! These things upset them more! Despite I do not eat ‘these things’ I do buy and allow them to be cooked for visitors – and guess what the topic will turn to when I do not partake the stuff – every time even if they have heard of it before! So I sarcastically and cynically retort – finish the dinner – and I will tell you why! Oh – they say in disgust – because they have heard of it before!

If you like lobsters, prawns and crabs – may I suggest you do not read The Addendum? J !

But frankly – it is true the poster that – Some people are like prawns! No guts, no spine and a head full of shit! But market value is always high! (Or are proud and conceited! Like I always say after the Offices environments – it is in Families where people most misbehave and conduct themselves badly! And behave just like prawns!

I hope you have enjoyed the article. If you have – please let The Chief Editor and The CEO of Oman Daily Observer – observerfeatures@gmail.com – editorobserver@gmail.com – know that ‘you miss my Columns – Between Us Only! That used to run every Sunday and Wednesday before being abruptly ended more than 2 years ago- when I criticised The Egyptian Army murdering in cold blood their own peoples demonstrating for reinstalling Morsi as elected President of Egypt! And the support they got from some GCC countries! I am not Egyptian – nor Pro or Anti Morsi- but a human being observing my faith and as with human feelings and concerns!

How many Omanis can write like this? Allah Kareem! God Is Great! Ameen! Amen!

Take Care!

Best wishes and regards,

Majid Al Suleimany

ADDENDUM!

Repeat – Please do not read if you like lobsters, prawns and crabs!

In the island of Mafia aka Chole -100 miles from Dar es Salaam – Commercial Capital of Tanzania – my late Father PBUH Allah Rahmah – he liked sea food like crabs, prawns and lobsters! If you see how they are cooked still alive – you will never eat one again!

So they put these large crabs still alive and deadly – into a big boiling hot pot! They cover the pot with a tin cover and lay a big stone on top of it! You can hear the ‘tap’ tap – tap – tap as they ‘try to get out’ – open the cover please! We are being steamed hot alive here! The taping goes on for a long while – because they have a life of their own!

One day ‘one strong crab’ managed to push the lid and stone away! Our African house boy pushed it back in – and put a larger stone more on the lid! It took more than 5 minutes of incessant tapping to end!

How can you eat  these things – after this? I ask you!

After all, they look so ugly and terrible – like Big Insects! L !

P.S. You were warned not to come here! Have a Smile! Take Care!

One of the famous straits and characteristics that I had in my Career Life were that people could come to me in my Office at any time! In fact some even phoned me at home! Long time after I left some places – people still followed me!

I offered advices, counselling, coaching, mentoring and guidance for free – and charged no one!

  • People that are now very rich peoples with their several companies!
  • These are people that were not sure at the time if they should leave the Company and start their own businesses or not! I told them ‘to go out and try’ – and they can always come back to their old positions – if they did not make it out there! I gave them as a Personal Guarantee being in Human Resources!
  • People that are now General Managers, CEOs, MDs, The Top Guys!
  • Same as above!
  • Some that now that you have to use their titles before you address them in person!
  • Same as above!
  • Families that are now together because of my counselling advising etc. Some are VIPs and very rich peoples too!
  • People from Other Companies that have now too made it!
  • My mainly Arab Management Books now!       www.myownmajid.com Be The Safe Driver!
  • Even my Road Safety Books were targeted – even if the country has one of the Worst Records of Road Safety and Driving in Oman! But they were targeting all my books – in alone blow –thanks to The Mafias – and the Old Guards!
  • I was at one Company Management meeting – and became so down and all alone after a meeting!
  • The Management and ALL MY Peers did not support me in My Warning and Cautions on Omanisation, Youth Recruitment – and Training and Development!😦
  • I came home so pissed out – and took it out on my youngest daughter who poor thing was just asking for a calculator for School – and my family turning against me!
  • That night the idea of running away for good – or suicide came into my mind!
  • Things I said about ‘are still happening to date!
  • But facts and events proved me right – even years later – when I said – several times – I told you so! But it all becomes empty and hollow – wasted time, efforts and energies!
  • With serious personal determents, consequences and repercussions on my Career Life – because I risked being forthright, frank and opinionated – and refused to ‘go with the tide! – ‘Not to rock the boat’ – refuse ‘to push the dirt under the carpet per se! Even if it already was smelling and reeking!
  • Everyone has conveniently forgotten me – some even consider me as nuisance and trouble!
  • Some of them even turned me flat when my Consultancy business was facing closure!
  • Let alone offering me Project works before when yet they knew well I was well qualified experienced HR Professional!😦
  • When I applied for some of their jobs advertised – I was not called even for an interview!
  • What kind of people are these I ask you?
  • If being rich and famous is like this – I prefer to remain just okay and surviving!
  • Allah SWT God Really liked me not to change and be like them!

A Personal Memoire – In Memoriam! Late Sheikh Khalfan Al Esry! Reply

A Personal Memoire – In Memoriam! Late Sheikh Khalfan Al Esry!

imagesCAY1VCAS Sheikh Khalfan[1]

I was not feeling that well that night and had gone to bed early! I heard the continuous chimes of the Mobile GSM set – but just chose to ignore! In my mind I was asking myself who sane person sends messages well past midnight? If you do not sleep, some others do! You could well send the messages next day – if you must – but disturbing people well past night on mainly ‘trifle messages’ was just not on! At least to yours truly ranking, evaluation and assertion! Even if you have kept the notifications at the lowest ebb and level!

When the call of Fajr (early morning) prayers came on – both in the phone and from the nearby Masjid – and there is always a minute or two in difference – the phone one going off earlier! I then looked at the messages – and could not stop crying! Feeling very guilty because I was planning to visit my good friend – but now lost the chance forever! Feeling more guilty because of not reading my messages as they were coming – more from stubbornness and resistance than anything else!

It hit me more because I had a chance and opportunity to make amends with the great personality – because he being that friend and close to me – ventured to advise me to cool down and take things easy! He told me – I came into the paper well after you left – yet I was able to build more stronger friendships and more cordial relationships with them despite the fact that you were far longer with them than me!

He said to me – There is no point in going for grudges and revenges – as the Great Gandhi had said – an eye for an eye makes everyone blind! Or words to that affect! Besides – he went on – we should learn from The Hadith and Sunnah of Our Great Prophet – PBUH – on how benevolent and merciful he was with defeating The Meccans in war – and from those who threw stones at him till his skin was bleeding!

Then he rated me about Good Karma – about not going for revenge – because God Will allow you to see those that did bad things to you screw up in front of your very eyes as they came down! He narrated to me about Religious Principles – that no one can take your due Haqq (Right) because if you do not get it back to you in this short material world – then you will surely get it in The Hereafter – where you will need it the most!

That was late Sheikh Khalfan Al Esry – he could narrate to you the simplest facts and issues with both Religious Zeal – coupled with Life’s Modernity outlooks – as he was very flexible and moderate in his views! He was a Great Focuser on Family Values, Ethics, Upbringing, Family ties and relationships, Principles and Outlooks! A Live Let Live Person! Moderate and compassionate always!

We used to share great secrets and our personalities were intertwined! You can always be sure he will not let the cat out of the bag! Once I tested him on a certain strong rumour circulating in town about a great personality – he would not be drawn in – and refused to join in and participate! His great words always for those going astray – Like in The Holy Quran Suras – May God direct him to the Right Way and Path – Ameen He would add – This is what you too should do – instead of participating in rumour mongering and backbiting – which are great sins in Islam – and come on Majid – you know well about these things – please don’t disappoint me (again?)!

When we were working in PDO we used to share lunch together from ordered outside lunch packages! Sometimes because of a busy work schedule, he would not turn up – so we used to keep his portion for him. At the end of the day, he would still not turn up – so we used to throw the food away in a dustbin!

When he came to know of this he was irritably visible angry that we are throwing away perfectly good food! You could have given it to The Cleaners he said! So I told him – some of the cleaners are Veggies, so what then? He said to me still undefeated – How heavy is the parcel? Could you not take it home for later use? Then he would lecture us – about how the rest of the world are going hungry – whilst here we are throwing away perfectly good food! It is forbidden – Haram – he would add!

Yes another thing – some of us skeptical cynics! After the food he would make Dua (Prayers) for the food – for the people who cooked the food – those who brought in the food – and for us our gratitude to The Lord for the food! In the beginning we used to find it satirical funny – until he started explaining and lecturing to us – and typical his sense of humour – and modernity! He would add The Conservative Christians say Grace before partaking the food – we Muslims not to be left behind – do it after eating the food! Same thing – same message to The Lord! You needed a sense of humour to get to his jokes – he would say them without any funny face or smirk!

When he left PDO to do his own businesses – he was one of The Few who was assured that his job) or another) was always waiting for him – if he did not make it in life! That was how much he was liked and esteemed – not like some of us there was no such offer! I wished there was – when my business failed! He Never Burnt his bridges behind him!

A car that he really liked was Mercedes Benz – which he bought in full on cash! The surprised Salesman was telling him – we are used to receive LPOs – or people coming in to beg and beg for discounted prices – he proved the maxim of Mercedes Benz – only those who can afford it – buy one!

A few months later his new car got a bad accident – and he was driving a corolla! Ugly envious me used to mock him – from a Mercedes Benz to a Corolla (Office)? Yet he would not be drawn in – he smiled back painfully – and amicably! When I wanted to be on his good side now (after losing!) – saying it is The Red Eye (Arabic) Green Eye (English) and The Haassiyds and The Jealous and Envious – he said believing in such things was getting out of The Religion! Not that these things are not there – but we should put our faith and trust in Allah God only – because He will Protect us from all things – evil heinous or not – so long as we ourselves were clean – in the first instance!

I used to tease him that after September 11, was he not worried travelling around the world – as his business required – and with his long beard? With all the stereotyping and suspicious outlooks? He joked to me – he used to wear a T Shirt – written on it – The Sheik is Shaking! The Immigration Officers at The Counters used to find it very funny – and let him through quickly – even faster than those clean shaved! Now if it was someone else – he would get angry for asking such an intrusive penetrating private personal question – but not him!

I must admit I have never seen him angry at one! He had a patience of Prophet Ayub (Jacob) RA – unbelievable. I will not forget him giving me HR jobs to do – though he himself (or his partner) could have done the jobs by themselves! That so I could earn some money too – he knew I was proud and would not accept charity (then!) … and this was his way of helping an old friend out whilst he still could – when I was at the lowest ebb and level in my life then with bankruptcy and losing all my monies – including my Pension Payments!

Unalike him – I did not have an offer for a job back in PDO!

He contributed many articles in my Road Safety Book – Behind The Wheel! www.createspace.com/4655681 And Arabic – Behind The Wheel! www.createspace.com/4875352 When I told him I will pay you when I get in sales – he joked – I don’t understand that word (pay!) J J !

There are far more things I could write – but I think for today I have said my bit! Anyway others have said already so many things in The Social Media already!

A Great Man Came – and now He Is Gone! May Allah God Rest his soul in eternal peace in this world and The Next – and open The Highest Doors for him in Heavens Ameen Amen!

Photo above of my Late Father PBUH Said bin Nasser bin Zahor bin Salim bin Ali bin Masoud Al Suleimany born in Hayll Al Ghaaf Quriat from origins parents Manah and Hayll Al Ghaaf!

Last week I met this old Al Suleimany man who was lamenting that we The Al Suleimanys are being ignored and being marginalized that there are few VIPs HEs CEOs GMs Directors DGs etc. He said The Al Suleimanys have a rich ancestry, heritage, culture, legends, stories etc. stretching from Manah, Nizwa, Muscat, Hayll Al Ghaaf, Quriat etc and stretching to UAE, KSA, Kuwait etc. and to Zanzibar, East Africa, etc. – and some to even citizens of India, Pakistan, Thailand, USA, Canada and Australia!

He said all the other tribes have their own history and they all come together – and we must do the same to be strong and to be recognized all over again! The Al Suleimanys were sidelined and marginalized because of the dirty murky history of the past – as they stood their grounds – and fought for their freedom and rights!

And have never been forgiven since then!

Contributions most welcome from Al Suleimanys Families, Relatives, Friends, Associates and Supporters! In English, Arabic or any other. Send to – majidalsuleimany@gmail.com

Let us make this a Success In Shaa Allah!

It has been a long time since I wrote anything – so please bear with me!:)

The other day at a Supermarket in town I met this ex-boss also shopping. There is nothing he can do to me now – even touch a hair on my head – but me being me I thought I would be nice and pass some pleasantries to him! So I remarked to him – Please keep it up! You are maintain your figure and keeping fit!

Instead of saying the usual Thanks! And even curse under your breath – he looked me up and down – and his usual self of meanness, wickedness and being dastardly he retorted – And you? Getting fatter now! You cannot even walk properly now! Hey – that is dangerous for you – you know?

I looked at him up and down – and was going to give him a BIG piece of my mind – when the good side of me got better of me – and I just stammered unintelligently Seeing his pride and joy at ‘hurting me again’ he walked away from me – but the nice neighbourly girl he was with crisply replied back too him – No! You got it wrong! He has actually lost weight!

What losing weight? He retorted – Do not give him a big head! Watch it my friend! He said – as walking away from me with the girl they came shopping together – or had met there – I would not know!

As I had finished shopping – I met him at the Paying Counter as he was head of me – and he had just finished shopping – and he was arguing with the poor Omani Sales Girl that she gave him less change by one Omani Rial! Can you imagine? Just one Rial? And he was one of the highest paid guys in the company then! The girl was arguing defensively that she gave him the Right Change! But he insisted she was mistaken! The poor girl took one Rial more from the counter and gave him. Pleased with his winning he went away!

As I was clearing my purchases, the girl was helping me to put the goods in the plastic bag. I was thinking to myself that this poor girl will have one Rial deducted from her salary because of this mean person – so I volunteered her ‘to keep the change’! A few Rials anyway in compensation!

This person was a very sick person for a long time – and you would have imagined that he would have changed! He was mean as usual – especially to ‘those he disliked’ and ‘not in his Favour List’! As I always say – you can never take the spots away from a leopard – or stripes from a tiger! Or as the famous Arab story of the Frog and the Scorpion – I just cannot change! It is just by my nature!

***

Your Reputation Precedes You!

I meet this friend of mine – an Omani Engineer! As a Technician Student then, I looked after him. He is now in the ranks of a General Manager of a new Consultancy firm – after retiring also!

So I tease him – I know the answer already! Any chance of a Temporary, Part-time or Consultancy job in HR, Training or Omanisation? He says to me – send me your CV – I will see if anything can be done! But mind you – I am not promising anything! So I put him at ease – I am just teasing and joking you!

Not really interested to be insulted again by even our own impudent Youngsters that have grown ‘too big for their shoes’! Let alone Foreigners and Old Guards before as the norm! I am not interested to work for anyone now – and end not delayed in payments – or even the dreaded ‘not paying you at all’ after delivery of services rendered by finding excuses and technicalities ensured that you do not get paid!

For example did not get the contract – what has that got to do with me? Everything – the young Omani GM says to me – your work as part of the bid – was not successful to get the bid! Or you get paid by difficulties – 3 months later – after threats and counter threats of legal action!

Adding salt to wound – he calmly says to me – M – Your Reputation Precedes You! People know that they cannot push you around – that you refuse to push dirt under the carpet! You stand your grounds! And what guaranty they have that you will not write about the incidents in the company in your new Management books? Now that your columns have been killed – by a Technicality? By also a Younger (New) Omani brother? Think about it!

I have, Brother! I retort! I have! I was just teasing and joking you! It is not sour grapes! Take it in the right way it is presented! Not only for the above reasons – but I even now give advices to those College students if they should specialize in HR?

I tell them point blank! You will be crazy to go into HR – the way things are brewing (burning) in the Offices now – like what I always say – like that cinder fire burning intensely underneath – waiting to explode at any time! When I wrote my article More Serious Issues At Stake! I had a sinking inner feeling – an Omen – a premonition – that ‘this article will now end my columns for good now!

I am not trying to be smart now – but the East African say – Those that deny you beans (mbaazi) are just reducing your gas intake (farts!). Or that one going up the ladder – wait for him at the bottom! Or as Good Karma saysDo Not Go for Revenge! God will allow you to see your enemies screw up in life! Like fighting as a well-paid person about One Rial with a Sales Girl!

I was going through my emails and trying to delete some of the mail in order to make space for my Gmail Hotmail and Yahoo as my own websites emails have 10 GB of mail each and I have used only 5% last 5 years.

I found this email from a girl who had died in a nasty road accident with 8 members of her family in Al Mahda returning on Eid Day from UAE few years ago. As you might know, I wrote the book Being The Safe Driver! Behind The Wheel!  after this horrible accident. I was a HR Consultant at her place of work then!

Dear Ustaadh Majid

After Greetings Compliments,

I was very happy to see you today in the Office and your present to me of the book Short Takes! I cried in my heart that you mentioned me in the book as the inspiration of your new book and that you followed my advice to add images to this book.

Ustaadh Majid. I am younger person to advise you! But I want to let you know that please do not allow anyone to make you feel sad and so small and insignificant. These people are really jealous of you and want to be like you in life but cannot be. They cannot even write a page let alone a book and you have written so many books already. You are a really good kind feeling person who always are helpful to people in need of a kind word support or advice. Everyone knows this Ustaadh!

Dear Majid Sir,

Please keep your head always high and we are all proud of you and knowing you. Be proud of what you are and have been and will always be, which they cannot and do not have! And please keep away from these bad people because they are enjoying to see that you are sad hurting and feeling low. We will always pray for you because Right and Good Always win in the ultimate end.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 7,700 times in 2014. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.

The Funeral Images!

Have you seen this film? A Wedding and a Funeral?

I do not know about you – but for me – I am always ready to expect the worst news at any time! Perhaps more that has got to do with my life recently – with all the ups and downs (more!)!

So when the call came early morning – and from someone who never calls just to chat – but more to pass the news now and then – I immediately knew something bad and amiss has happened! At first I thought it had to do with my sister in law whom we visited day before in the Hospital – admitted because of ‘breathing problems’! And that brings in the point that we do not appreciate Life’s Giving – and what God has given until something has gone missing – or is too late!

Trust us Omanis to always say polite chit chat greetings and compliments before ‘we give in the core news’. It has always been and never has changed – even that Police and The Court Clerk come home to arrest you! They will start nice – and end in the bad news ‘with the usual sugar coating on the bitter pill1per se! I see that you are saying to me the very same thing – you are doing the very same thing, my friend!

I remember in my old days in the old oil company – when the Top Guy (Omani) says to me = cut the crap – and just come to the point! The other day I met him in a Supermarket – and I was sure to give him the body signs that ‘I still remember and do not care much about him’ – though I felt conscience stricken and guilty when he called out my name ‘sort of fondly’ – and asked me what happened to the Between Us Only! columns?

I had to remind him a bit gently that he gave me the blast when I said ‘Between Us Only!’ and did not realise that I used to like to say this until when me and the esteemed newspaper were discussing what to call my columns! When I said it again – the good man who had opened the door for me to write uttered a bit loudly – Yes – we will call it ‘Between Us Only! It went on for 13 years more when it was ended more by a ‘technicality’ – if not evil design – and my book Goodbye; Between Us Only! – www.createspace.com/5139836 – said The Full Story!

So then this my son in law was saying to me – Uncle – Bad News! My Father has died just now! Peacefully in his sleep! And the funeral is going to be after afternoon prayers! So I went down and made my own breakfast – as the Filipino house maid of over 13 years was away celebrating Christmas Mass the night before! Yes – today was Christmas Day – and a funeral to go to!

Perhaps a Blessing in disguise – with all the ‘hate intolerant – ‘not let live and let live’ mails I was getting – of ‘not to celebrate Xmas’ – but now even ‘not to send greetings even’! I wrote the book A Cry For Help! in June 2009 – long before the so-called Arab Springs hit us – and even Oman was not spared! I had cautioned and warned of all things – but nobody cared or bothered!

So Christmas Day was ‘celebrated’ at the funeral grounds – burying a family member! Allah God Rest his soul in eternal peace and salvation – in this world and the next Ameen (Amen) – but he lived to be over 92 – with no major sickness or illness! A nice way to go too – peacefully – and not ‘be a cause of trouble and nuisance’ to others for ‘a long time’ – that the day you go – you get crude remarks like – he is now at peace at last! – and few tears around! Unless reminded – Hey someone has died! Why no tears and wails?? Happened to my late grandfather (PBUH) – and as a child it took me many years to apprehend and appreciate why no one was crying then! Except my poor Mother PBUH!

*** The Marriage ***

arab henna Trend 2011 Arabic Wedding Dress Omani bride[1] Wedding Tent

I read this article about a dispute that had arisen at a time of our Great Prophet SAW when a person had died and there was also a wedding that was to take place almost at the same time. I do not profess to be much learned in Religious Affairs – so please do not ask me to give you References! Comes from a stern warning I got from a friend Religious Leader who ‘sternly warned me’ – Do not give Religious Stories (The Hadith) – unless you have ‘References’ to back you up! Anyway, to cut it short (cut the crap?) – it ‘was decided to bury the dead body first – and after a while to go to the wedding – after a respectful solemn time had elapsed to respect the dead – and their family and relative members!

Reminded of the incident, I was debating if I should go to the ‘three times repeatedly invited’ wedding at the Masjid (Mosque)? Same Day of the Funeral! Same Day of Christmas? Imagine someone choosing the date to get married! In most probabilities it never crossed the mind – because people are more concerned to have weddings at the weekends – and to have an available date with all the young marriages taking place now! Remember my article – From Pampers to Wedding Dress? You will – if you are a strong fan!

Talking about Fans! In the end I decided to go – and I was ready to answer some of those ‘so intrusive people into others personal affairs’ – why are you here? I thought you had a funeral? I was anyway practicing the great Religious Story to give – but thank God nobody dared to ask! Although there was a crude one who remarked – Still at the dish? – when all the others had left – and I was eating alone – as you know the Omani way of a big plate with morsels and morsels of meat and rice (Biriyani) to be eaten group-wise! I was remarking to one of the partakers that in ‘Africa only 2 people can finish off this plate’ – and here we were 6 Omanis and still half eating of the plate!

So before the meal there were some ‘fans’ inquiring about the articles – and what happened? I have now a field day to say what ‘really happened – and how they were all killed more by a technicality! And then the ‘followers’ still in the ‘social media’ remarked to me ‘how he liked what I wrote about ‘The Mafias and The Old Guards’ – and why reading newspapers is no longer interesting – as it was before! Sure to rub it in – I protested ‘innocently’ – do not blame me! Blame them instead!

Overall it was a very testing trying day – and showing all about life – from A Funeral to A Wedding!

A long time ago as a kid, I used to hear people talk about death and how they will go! I always wondered out aloud how I would go – if my turn came up next!

I always prayed that I would go sudden and people surprised he went away that fast! But I never want to cause trouble and inconveniences to others before I die – if I was to choose these things! But it is all in God Allah hands!

Anyway, I had this dream of ‘dying by starvation’ – I do not know what it meant! Was it going to be real as in the dream – or as a metaphor like liking to eat too much and getting fatter by day – and as now being diabetic case?

Or would it be like my late Father PBUH where he wanted food and water but was denied by The Doctors (they were using instead drips!) – because they needed to operate on his stomach – because there was a blockage in his small intestines – and till after the operation could be given food!

Anyway only God Allah SWT Knows these things best!

Sorry for a morbid subject!

Here lies a person who in all his life had acted and stood up for the rights of others – and to whatever extent and even harm and injury and damage to himself personally – and he went down that way!

Where he could change things himself he did – otherwise he spoke out for Change. Always wanted to be fair, just, professional, principled, correct and ethical in all things he did.

A person who was always sincere, genuine and honest – frank, open and forthright who always looked at The Bigger Picture – and never wanted things to go wrong as his focus and theme in life! Even though many of his efforts were never acknowledged, accepted and realized – and he became a victim himself in his life, career, and future and with his family too!

He wants to be remembered that way only!

Please Pray for Him – when they tell you he is gone!

As some of you may still remember my columns Between Us Only! was ‘killed starting on a Technicality’ propagated by ‘The Indian Mafias’ and aided and supported by our own ‘The Old Guards’ – and right at the highest central profile media place!

See more herehttp://myownmajid.com/2014/12/10/no-more-between-us-only-this-is-goodbye/

Since the last 3 days or so, I have heard nothing but just very emotional and passionate discussions on the above topic! People have been calling me to write on the topic and send it to at least Muscat Daily or The Oman Tribune to be published – in addition to my websites!

Actually I have covered this subject intensively in my Arab Management Books and with my

own personal experiences at work and elsewhere!

I have also written about it intensively in my columns – Between Us Only! See last 2 samples below!

I can assure you – it is starting! Soon people will cry out for me to write again! Because there are FEW Pragmatic Broadminded ‘Live and Let Live’ Writers like me! Only again to say – I told you so! As I have already said it many times before!

***

  • No matter how late they take ur words ….but one day ur words will make voice … I told u earlier my Guru!Omani Fan
  • It is always the people who know the least about you who want to judge you the most ..! Another!

What amazed me more is to find some ‘Drinkers’ supporting the decision – perhaps more from A Cry For Help! Syndrome – and surprisingly still from Non Drinkers and Followers who are against the proposal – because they believe ‘there is no compulsion in Religion’ – and not really being ‘Secular’ in outlooks and approaches! I do not know who said it – but there is this expression – I am against your views – but I will die defending your right to say it!

As Fans and Readers who know me well, I will present my views ‘from my heart and as if speaking to you directly from my heart’ – and coming from my own exposures and experiences in life! Actually, I have covered this subject intensively in my Arab Management books – see my books website – www.myownmajid.com – and also in my Between Us Only! Columns!

Article 1 – Increasing Alcohol Abuse!

For Sunday March 17th 2013

Between Us Only!

Increasing Alcohol Abuse!

v O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, idolatry, and diving arrows are an abomination of Satan’s handiwork. So avoid that so that you may be successful  – The Holy Quran 5: 90

v Alcohol maybe man’s worst enemy! – Frank Sinatra

v I don’t even drink! I can’t stand the taste of alcohol! – Kim Kardashian

v Alcohol gives you infinite patience for stupidity – Sammy Davis Jnr.

v Herb is the healing of a nation; alcohol is the destruction! – Bob Marley

v Alcohol is the anesthia by which we endure the operation of life – George Bernard Shaw.

Frankly and truthfully speaking, I have written on this very same topic a few times before! The last time I wrote on this – a few years ago – a very irate and upset relative of the family called me to start an abusive from the start discussion about my writings – and saying to me that he will be very blunt – because maybe the world does not know it – but he knows it for sure that an Indian guy working for this newspaper – was writing for me – and paying him on the sideline! He said to me – you can fool everyone – but not me! I know exactly about you. All things you think we do not know about you!

The call was placed to me at 2 a.m. in those days when people still used land phone lines! And Madam Wife MW was worried because I was ‘at my best behaviour’ and just listening without saying anything – especially to the loud voices and shouts at the other end – after calling some minutes later – to ‘give me a piece of his mind – once more!’. Anyway – I told MW that it was a certain WRTXY – and certainly at that time he was not sober – and one could easily tell from the hoarse husky gruff voice at the other end. I do not know what hand signals he was also placing – as he was talking to me – but one does not need high imagination to fathom out what they could be!

Next day, at around noon he came to my Office – and I was just about to press the emergency link button to Security – when he started crying in the Office in very loud voices – now that he was sober – and asking for ‘my help to save him’ – and if I knew Alcoholics Anonymous contact – but I referred him to a fellow Omani peer who likes his drinks – and the one that easily became ‘high flying potential’ to succeed over a lot of the rest of us that went without and observing – because we had not caught on – and were ‘not modern’!

When I was studying in UK in the 1970s,  my peers foreign students friends used to use me as their chauffeur to take them from the pubs – until that day when I put my foot down – when two of them dirtied my car. There was there one pretty tall local girl that really took a fancy to me – remember I was still young and not married then – but when she found out that I was not ‘drinking even socially’ – as she kindly put it – that was too much for her! And the pretty thing slipped through my fingers!

For a long time I was fighting with the devil whether to entertain her or not – until then when I remembered and came to my senses – as the East Africans say – The one who denies you beans – is just reducing you from getting gas! – And frankly not a lost grapes saga!

In one of the new FDI companies,  I was in a very good position and status as their HR man in Oman. Until the day when the top guys from their home came to the launch – and found out that my white wine glass was actually a soft drink beverage! One of them was drawn to the bubbles in the glass – because as I understand it – the white wine does not cause bubbles?

He said to me – I am confused! I thought you were 3 years in UK? Explain to me! So I did! And that also happened in a Management course abroad – a few years before I retired – because the good final farewell party Organiser said to me – All you people (you people?) coming from (our region) drink heavily – why are you a fish out of water – from the famous expression – drink like a fish! Sic!

It is very sad to see the outlook and approach of life that some of our youngsters have adopted and taken that ‘it is okay – that you can drink a little – ‘just to socialise’ escapades – but they forget that it is how all the things start – before you start making a fool and nuisance of yourself – and cause strife and havoc in your married and family life. Sad when even the lassies do it too – because I can tell you – honestly and frankly – whether you believe me or not – that even those that like their drinks want a spouse and life partner that does not drink!

I have seen it real life experiences – both local and foreign – where marriages – even amongst the elders – supposed to be more patient and waiting in dreams for changes – have broken up – because of the stuff! Because that is the root cause of domestic violence! The people that suffer the most – and hopefully will not join in the future – copy and emulate  – are the children teenagers only!

Trust me – I am a great believer in ‘live and let live’ syndromes and approaches – because I could go to a pub and have my meal – and if you leave me alone to have nowadays my fresh juice also – and you have whatever you want – but don’t impose your rules and values to me – and I will not impose mine to you! If you say to me things like ‘a lot of you people (you people?) drink a lot – when you have only have few examples in reality to give – then we have problems ahead – between us – as I had said in my books too!

One long time ago – in a great party – one of the top local guys that just could not stand me – told me ‘why he hated me to the core’. Next day sober (hopefully!) he said to me – I hope I was not a nuisance yesterday? I said – sarcastically – more to myself – No Sir! You were okay! Why give him the advantage – and an ace card?

Allah God Guide us the Right Path and Way – Amin Amen. Take Care!

Article 2 – Rising Alcoholism Syndrome!

For The Oman Daily Observer of Sunday June 7th 2010,

Between Us Only!

Rising Alcoholism Syndrome!

In all my writings, and in My Books, I have tried my level best to move away from writing taboo subjects – but the coming incident confirmed to write on this one – with sincere, genuine and due apologies.

I had been to this Recreation Centre when I saw a group of young Omanis come out from the Alcohol Bulk store with carts full of the stuff – from beers to the real heavy and expensive stuff – because cartons betray what they have inside them! They looked to me as recently joined Graduates to the Company.

So the mean and evil streak in me decided to play a game with them. I asked them if they could spare me a few drinks – and I was willing to pay for them. It was already coming evening Prayer time – so one of the nicer kinder sympathetic ones offered me the address because they were having a bash and celebration from what looked similar to Gonnu to strike our Omani shores! This shocked me to smithereens – the approach to celebrate before the storm struck – instead of going into prayers and reciting our Holy books instead – like some of us in our generation would normally do.

Just for the records, being a member of that club, I too could purchase in bulk if I had wanted – but then I am not ‘developed and progressed enough’ with my sad state of affairs of being a student in UK for three years – still single at that time – and downstairs opposite lane I used to sit and watch those indulging (including pretty young girls too!) making a fool and spectacle of themselves after awhile – and too good and decent a material to bring into my column in this esteemed newspaper! But let us put it this way – I told all to the good wife before our marriage!!

Some years ago when I was travelling to UK for my Management course, the local guy beside me pressed the distress call button just as the plane was taking off from Muscat International airport (we could even see it below us) – and the poor air hostess came running to find what was wrong? Remember The Fasten Your seatbelts sign was on! The man asked for a beer! I do not know if he was afraid to fly – or maybe taking early advantage of the limited free offer of drinks on board as travelling Economy!

The Air Hostess firmly put him in his place – though he kept the button chiming! Then when the warning seat signal was off, he said give me English beer! He mentioned a brand which even dumb and stupid me in ignorance and being backwards as a teetotaller knew was a Dutch brand – and not an English one – as in my job aspects of peers trying to impress our Western bosses that they are progressed and developed! I remember even one peer who joked to me in front of our British boss – he was a Non Believer in God though – and said it when he was even sober to us! My friend peer was teasing me – M – it is time for prayers, what are you doing still waiting here? I have had suckers and yes men in my life – but as our Indian friends say – this one had the biscuit!

I have met many people I know where families are complaining to me to write about this subject – but I am always the type of person who is a Live and Let Live type of person – but to limits – when you start to encroach on me in your superiority false outlooks – and that you know better even for me – then we have issues and problems. So long as you leave me alone, I drink my carbonated and or fresh juices with those at the party enjoying themselves – but at the same time can leave the table and go for my prayers – I am that type of person per se!

A lot of families complain of smoking and alcoholism amongst some of their family members – and sadly and tragically including the teenagers and the youth too. One of the off shots of increased road accidents and fatalities is this stuff! There is also this element of domestic and family violence as a result of alcoholism, resulting in increasing divorces, family breakdowns and social disorders.

Personally I do not believe in imposing rules and regulations – Believing in Live and Let Live – and have even a blog under such a name! However,  as parents and grandparents – and as elders – we do have a prime and fundamental duty to lead by examples – and advice, counsel and caution the youth to protect and preserve our heritage, customs, traditions, values and culture as a people – and the teachings and practices of our religion – and even if to be in moderation when going flexible and accommodating!

I remember this incident very well after my father had expired – and I was receiving condolences in my villa in Qurum. They wanted some juice – and unfortunately I had left only apple juice! Soon after a while, my uncle from the village came to me and started yelling and shouting to me – how could you? And my uncle in Muscat cut him short – and said you must have got your facts twisted and intertwined – because I was accused of offering beer to them! My town uncle said very emphatically and strongly – I do not know about the others, but I can guarantee on my life that this son of Late Said NEVER DRINKS the stuff! That is confidence for you!

Incidentally Happy Birthday me! Take Care!

I am not sure who said it – but it could be Pervez ex Pakistan Leader or Mahathir Mohamed – ex Malaysian Leader – who said that people are only more interested in life in The Basic Necessities of Life like Air, Food, Water, Shelter and Clothing – though some would also add Health and Love to the equation. People are lesser interested in higher buildings, bigger roads and flyovers, bigger airports and seaport – or newer industries and projects – or schemes. That is for them to live and survive the Basic Necessities of Life are more paramount and predominant!

About The Book!

I        PREFACE

This book is the 11th book in The Series – Between Us Only! And my 21st book so far.

It is recommended that this book be read together with this book: –

Writing: My Passion! – www.createspace.com/5085322

* Also – Goodbye; Between Us Only! – www.createspace.com/5139836

There were some articles missed out in the above * book after the end and the collapse of my column articles in November 2013 – more than a year ago!

What is of paramount importance is to get all my articles Post last Between Us Only1 series – Wipe My Tears! The book was published in June 2013 – all intended to put all my books in one place for further references and for record purposes!

I have also included all those articles after end of my columns mainly based on ‘a Technicality’ that was designed to stop and to end my columns.

I was keeping to myself and trying to avoid conflict – but still people were after me! So I decided to accept the challenge – and write and record this book as last of my columns writings for future records and references.

No one can kill the spirit, soul and heart of a Writer – because so long as a Writer will live he will not stop writing!

As Jules Renard had said – No one considers a Writer as ridiculous – even if he does not make any money! So there! Besides, I had posted this in all The Social Media – November 13, 2014

Why are we so set against each other? We will support The Foreigner and The Expatriate but not esteem and value our own! We do not have trust and confidence on our own! It is part of this great CURSE Jealousy, Envy and Bad Hearts within us! Bad unfeeling uncaring hearts inside some of us only! Pure evil-like just as is ISIL!

HM Speech 2  Omani Faces - Toyota Omani Worker 1  Omani Worker 2 Omani Worker 3 Omani Worker 4

The Omani Youth Are Ready For Their Dutiful Roles and Responsibilities – if we allow them to!

For a long time now I have been concentrating on propagating my books – www.myownmajid.com – rather than commenting on the many articles that have appeared – especially in The English Press – as to Why The Omani Youth Are Not Employable (Into Jobs!). I said I will keep to myself – because for all my life I have been fighting against this theme and focus – and from The First Day I started working in Human Resources after my graduation in 1976! The same slogans – the same emphasis – nothing much has yet changed – despite us not ‘escaping The Arab Springs repercussions’!

What made me write this article today is what I saw an ‘Expert’ British Lady writing in one of The Websites that carried His Majesty Speech to The Omani People! Allah Give him quick recovery, long life and health – Ameen!

In this article this lady had given her opinion why Oman is in Trouble – because Omanisation has failed badly! It is surprising out there that everyone becomes an ‘Expert’ when it comes to ‘why the Omani Youth is NOT EMPLOYABLE in especially The Private Sector! I do not blame her – because even our Own Columnists say almost the very same things – with bits here and there in variations!

I read also of The Ministry of Information talking the Chief Editors of The Newspapers! Frankly, I think he needed to speak more to The English Press – where ‘The Indian Mafia’ et al reign supreme under the ‘watchful eyes of The Old Guards’ – some are not even in that category but more being weak, docile, gullible and naïve lots – rather than having any sort of political touch or bias!

So please forgive me as an ex now retired Human Resources Management Consultant, Professional, Expert and Advisor making my valid pertinent points! Besides, the fact that I published 4 Arab Management Books – (1) Psychology of Arab Management Thinking! – (2) A Cry For Help! – (3) Arab Management: Reality or Myth? The Arab Manager – and (4) The Arab Manager: The Call! – all in my books websites – www.myownmajid.com and www.myown-ebooks.com

I was also looking at LinkedIn and saw this Indian guy being promoted every time – and this time to Vice President of The Group! And that brings us to the subject matter of today! I have actually worked together with this gentleman! I will say this for him in truth and sincerity! He has the power and knack of bringing in money to the establishment – because he has many workable good ideas!

But if you ask me if I had my own Company – would I employ him? Money coming in or not – the answer is strong negative that I would not! Because he has the worst record of ‘negativity’ on The Omani Youth – and that stretches even to The Highly Qualified Omanis – because if he had his own way – and he was given Full Authority – NO OMANI WILL BE EMPLOYED BY HIM! Yet his Sponsors keep promoting him – and look at the other way – because he is bringing in money to the establishment! That is all that mattered here! Nothing less or more!

So please forgive me as I go along here!

I can only relate to things and aspects that I have personally experienced! If The Leadership out there are really interested, they should make someone to READ MY BOOKS – especially The Arab Management ones! They are full of Real True Examples of what is going on! Instead of sending the books as Complimentary Gifts to TOP VIPS – and there is ‘not even a slight humanity or decency’ of saying thanks for the gift – looking at a gift horse in the mouth! Why? Because deep down in their consciences and hearts – they know I am speaking the TRUTH ONLY!

They should actually translate the books – and make it Compulsory Reading – for everyone from a Director upwards in The Public Sector – and CERTAINLY even in its current forms to all The Top Management in The Companies – especially Those GMs and MDS in Oman over the last 25 years – and NOTHING has really changed on the ground – as far as they are concerned!

But then as we Arabs like to say – There is no one so blind but with eyes but cannot see; no one so deaf but with ears but cannot hear; and no one so dumb but with a mouth but cannot speak! Or as The Romans say – Those that the gods want to destroy – they make them not see, hear or speak!

Besides, the very pertinent and important point – even if I am not that right or correct in my views and assertions – or perhaps right in some but wrong in others etc. – His Majesty has personally allowed his citizens to have an Independent Thinking and Outlooks– as long as they are able to express their views and why they think so! As a Loyal Citizen, no one can deny me this Right – even if they had ‘killed’ my columns more on a Technicality rather than anything else!

Live Example One.

I wrote about this example before many times! Here was a young Omani Engineering Graduate Lady who was applying in one of the companies I was working as The Head of HR! She had a Degree in Project Management as her Specialisation – and from our own University in SQU. She was applying for a job as a ‘Secretary’ in one of the jobs that we were advertising! That is the point I want to make here. Usually these things are done by Recruitment – and though I had just taken over from an Indian guy – she too Indian was ‘running the show’ behind scenes – which I soon put an end to! You as The Omani HR Head MUST BE INTERESTED FIRST!

She was trying to arrange for a Trade Test in Secretary for The Applicants. I told her – I want to see this girl first! Why as an Engineer she is applying for a Secretarial Job? Typical of their lots she cracked jokes that maybe I was interested because she was pretty – or I know the family as she came from Nizwa? Near Manaa – where many Al Suleimanys came from! She was not Al Suleimany anyway!

When she came – I asked her point blank! Are you serious to apply for this job – yet an Engineering graduate? Shame! What she told me shook me to my very foundations – and I can assure you that I am largely built too! She told me – Her Professors had told her it will be easy to get a good Engineering job – even if she was a woman – because of her specialization! Yet she went to all The Construction and Project Offices companies – and they offered her only Admin, Clerical and Secretarial jobs. All these companies were Indian GMs Managed! One had even the audacity to want her syllabus of the University to see what ‘they teach’! These are the same companies that get always LARGE CONSTRUCTION JOBS from the Government – but taking a qualified educated Omani lady was an issue – because they wanted these jobs for their own home lots – unless there were isolated pressures now and then – and mainly from the outside!

I talked to my MD (Nice American Person) and we took her in Inventory Logistics as a Trainee – the nearest thing that was near Engineering! The point I am making here is ‘people need to be interested and to get involved’ – rather than ‘not wanting to rock the boat’ – or ‘wanting to look nice and good’ to especially ‘foreigners’ – he is our boy! Or girl!

The second incident is nearer home with the same outlooks. My daughter who had an Engineering Degree in Electronics and Electrical – and this time in UK!! Only The MOG companies are ‘more serious’ than the rest! In some of the Company Websites – the First Question is – Sex? Not the Indian joke one of 3 times a week? But real gender! If you reply Female – an Automatic Reply come up – Sorry! These jobs are only for Male Candidates – even The Project Jobs!

It is so easy to live in a fanciful world. By repeating lies over and over again, in the end people start to believe that ‘it is our Education System’ that is at fault! I would agree to a certain extent maybe there should be more emphasis on work attitudes, ethics and focuses – but blaming the Education System goes well to ‘satisfy the Mafias – mainly Indian led – with due apologies here – and certainly The Old Guards who want NO CHANGES – or Rocking The Boat!

I would recommend moving all those Expatriates in Top Positions who have been there for the last 20 years plus and bring in New Blood – if there are no Omani takers! But certainly MORE RISK TAKING of putting Omani ‘that care and feel for their own’ – and are also similarly inclined For More Risk Taking of their subordinate Omanis – and VALUE AND ESTEEM their own more – rather than putting candidates of ‘Our own Boys’ and Girls’ who will do our bidding – or do as we tell them to do!

Also it is High Time to stop all these advertisements in especially English Newspapers of Visitors looking for a job – and a Special Division be created that sends such Applicants back home for such visits under ‘guise of Tourism’ when actually they are coming here for jobs – and silly games being played to deny our own jobs because of such temporary filling of jobs by these lots!

I know I am burning my bridges behind me – and building more enemies at the same time! But no one can do these things except ourselves only! Please REMEMBER His Majesty is sick person – and we should not trouble him by these things that we can do ourselves as a start!

With sincere genuine apologies!

Incident Number One!

A friend had sent me this about a man in Tanzania as he was relating his life story to an Imam Sheikh. When he was a young man and had just got his driving license he saw a dog across the street with 3 puppies’ children of the dog.

Being bad and vicious person he decided to run over the puppies to see what the Mother dog would do? The dog was in great pain and traumatised by the death of her children that she soon after died of heartbreak! The young man enjoyed this very much and thought it was all fun and joy!

Dog and Puppies

Images – For Demonstration Purposes Only!

As usual years later he forgot about the incident. He got married and Allah Blessed him with three sons. The First two sons died by Road Accidents when they were just teenagers. When his last remaining son reached 18 he decided to protect him by driving him himself to a College exam. He got out of the car and took his son across the busy street to the College.

I know of the place!

As they were crossing the street this irate driver was driving too fast and could not stop in time at the Zebra crossing! He saw his son die in front of his eyes! He went to The Sheikh to admit the crime he dis as a Youth. That Allah was punishing him now for a thing he did several years back.

Something he thought insignificant and inferior! A dog – to a dog’s children puppies … but instead here now to his own children!

***

Incident Number Two!

This man – older than me at the time – told me this story himself! I do not know the man – he met me at a party – and he just wanted to confess to me (someone?) Perhaps because he found out that the people he ‘disliked the most’ were not to what he had expected! Perhaps the drinks had loosened his tongue!

It is scary what he told me Years later I asked myself why I did not get involved more to do something against this person? I do not know the answer – to this very day! Like I said – I do not know the person – it is his word against mine in the final analysis!

Karma  Karma 2

He told me – he was with three other friends! They were in a pick up! They saw this lady whose car had a flat tyre! So they stopped to help her! The woman was gracious in thanks and gratitude! So she said – I do not know how to thank you!

So the three men found a way – as men’s minds usually do! It was a dark road in those old days! Then they left her by the side of the road! At least they did not harm her more or kill her! I asked him what happened to the woman later on – he just replied he does not know!

Years later his own two daughters got ‘similar treatment’ from other men! I am not sure about this part – but I think he said one of them had committed suicide because of ‘the stigma and the shame’! He was crying because of the ‘bad things he had done on others’! Simply because he did not like ‘these peoples’! His own words! I was one of the ‘peoples he did not like’ – perhaps why he wanted to confess to me!

That home I returned home – a very troubled person! Felt so helpless and impotent – and so much confused and devastated!

***

Incident No. 3 – The Boss who always liked to delete all my mail (even Official!)!

I will not go much in detail in this! Have said it so many times before! It is him and the other person (GM) who turned me down for ‘a Job Offer’ that was already verbally promised to me by his Chairman of The Board – on flimsy technicality!

Both of them have ended in great dire straits legally for cases that followed against them! I feel very sorry for them – and frankly would not have wished these on them – though they had hurt, traumatized and pained me a lot at the time

***

Incident No. 4

This Emirati boss took great pleasure to see that he has fired me! He threw ‘a high 5 with his Secretary’ – Syrian origin – who was the Main Instigator to see me go – so they could bring her relative (to take over from a GCC National!). Months later both were summarily terminated on the spot – because their relationships went too much – even if already ‘a public secret!’! At least they gave me three months’ salary in lieu as ‘Blood Money!

She was returned to Syria – and her visas cancelled Months later, The Syrian Revolution began! I pray and hope she is still alive and well – Ameen!

***

The East Africans sayIf you and break down someone’s home – yours too will be destroyed in due course – and when you least expected it – after usually some successes!

Also the person who climbs a ladder will have to come down!

The Chinese sayIf you dig a grave for your enemy; dig two graves! Keep one for yourself!

The English people also say this! – What goes around; comes around!

The Indian people also say – Good Karma! Do not go for revenge – God will allow you to see and watch these peoples screw up!

***

We have to be very careful and watch whom we hurt and pain in our lives! Because sometimes you think the person is insignificant and not important to you (now)…but you never know in life!

Do not pain or hurt someone by cruel words and deeds. Because you will be paid back one day. Usually when you have forgotten already…and then you get hut back!

Take care and pass this on…so we all can learn from one another..to be better people in life in The Right Path and Way Ameen Amen

Walk a mile in my shoes!

EminemWalk 1

Walk a Mile in My Shoes is a song written by Joe South, who had a hit with it in 1970. It was South’s second and final record to reach the top 20 of the Billboard chart. The song concerns racial tolerance and the need for perspective and compassion.

Don’t judge me till you walk a mile in my shoes or live a day in my life.

Idiom Definitions for ‘Walk a mile in my shoes’

AKA – The wearer of the shoe knows where it pinches!

HR – Walk the talk!

This idiom means that you should try to understand someone before criticising them

Write Up

The other day I had a strong disagreement with a Services Provider on the poor inefficient service that I was requiring from him! This person is a high profile person who always appears in the media. As an Indian resident – he has been in Oman for the last 35 years in Oman! He considers Oman as his second home! Some of his family members are now even USA and Canadian citizens – but he still wants to remain in Oman!

Though considering him as a friend – and is in my FB, LinkedIn, Twitter, WhatsUp etc. – he cuttingly and painfully remarked to me – Mr. M – we need to be very positive here! Even though it was his mistake – but he passed the ball to others in order to look good image – and it is the other party that is at fault – not him!

This is what I always tell my Indian friends especially – when they say ‘we like Oman’. I retort yes you do – because Oman gives you what you want and desire – but liking ‘The Omanis as a people’ is certainly a different matter altogether! But nothing is surprising when it comes to money – when even our own lack ethics, principles and etiquette – let alone professionalism!

It has happened to the highest public place where the Indians Mafias also misbehave there – so like I always say – what else is new here?

This saga reminded me of Benjamin Netayanhu ‘saying in other words it was alright for Israel to massacre rain bombs and disasters to The Gazan People – because they had elected Hamas – and Hamas was just like ISIS – deserved all to be killed – especially the children – because they will grow up to be ISIS fighters? Comes from the Final Solution that Hitler suggested for the Holocaust?

Frankly, these remarks have made many people review their outlooks on ISIS – as he desired – but not to the effect and side that he wanted it to be! How sick people can be? Bloody hypocrites who only believe they ‘are the nice good party’ – They are even worse than ISIS !

Really mental delusional sick – and is the recipe for final end and destruction only! Nothing else now!

Majid Al Suleimany

Walk A Mile In My Shoes Lyrics – Elvis Presley”

If I could be you, if you could be me For just one hour If we could find a way to get inside Each other’s mind If you could see you through my eyes Instead your ego I believe you’d be, I believe you’d be surprised to see That you’ve been blind Walk a mile in my shoes Walk a mile in my shoes Yeah, before you abuse, criticize and accuse Walk a mile in my shoes Now there are people on reservations And out in the ghetto And brother there, but for the grace of god Go you and I If I only had the wings Of a little angel Don’t you know, I’d fly to the top of a mountain And then I’d cry, cry, cry Walk a mile in my shoes Walk a mile in my shoes Yeah, before you abuse, criticize and accuse Walk a mile in my shoes Walk a mile in my shoes Walk a mile in my shoes Yeah, before you abuse, criticize and accuse Walk a mile in my shoes

A Cry For Help  cropped-cropped-2-buo-st-231.png  Front Cover Arab Management cover-front

Anything that can go wrong will go wrong! An adage that was said to have originated from the 1950s! It was named after Captain Edward A. Murphy of the USA Air Force after a military project that went wrong and with his words about the involved Technician – If there is any way to do it wrong, he’ll find it!

You will excuse me because by now I should have learnt to keep my mouth shut! Because like I have said it many times before – It is just like banging my head against brick walls! You only make your head swollen and red – and there is simply nothing achieved except to be considered ridiculous contemptuous trouble only! Again! But you will forgive me – because I never learn my lesson – even after 12 books written and one correctly and rightly said in theme and focus as simply – A Cry For Help! Written long before the ‘troubles’ hit us – and we did not escape the onslaught!

Look at these examples and tell me what you think?

With due respects and apologies!

  • Please remove immediately my email address from your circulation list because this email is ONLY for Official uses!

This is from Senior Official in a big high prestigious corporate and in The Media Department as Head Section – because ‘he is not interested to keep knowing how my Road Safety Book (Arabic) is doing – though he was initially part of the team that supported the publication of the book – he perhaps ‘with feet being dragged’ in the process I would not know really.

I apologized profusely and said would do so! And unsaid that from now on would not be interested to send also to the private email given – ‘if you are interested’? No I am not – Sorry Sir for disturbing you, Sir?

What happened to the Delete Key – or marking email address as Junk so that you do not have even to see it – or just ignore and delete from This Sender?

  • Family members getting out from Family Whats Up group because of disagreement on minor issues – which all started with making satirical sarcastic remarks of an Elder who could even give birth to you by age – if he was a girl and married at puberty!

Of course there will be remarks to come of ‘why wash our dirty linen in public’? So to say! But it is not the first time it has happened here!

From the above a Professional Head who should encourage receiving information from Staff and ex Staff Retired also ‘asking for his email address to be removed’ – because he simply has no time to go through all the emails because ‘he is a very busy person’ per se!

Sorry Sir – Please accept my sincere and genuine apologies – will not do that in the future anymore! Sorry Sir! Will not trouble you ever again! In actual fact will not come to the place – even if you invite me to do so!

Again the Question – What happened to the Delete Key – or marking email address as Junk so that you do not have even to see it – or just ignore and delete from This Sender?

Frankly, nothing hurts me like receiving such mails! But God Is Great! Allah Kareem.

  • The (Indian) Dish Antenna paid till end of October 2014. Two days back they disconnect it – and the Technician (Indian also!) has still not turned up – because his Indian Boss (!) has not paid him – and ‘I could not be bothered – I do not care – report me to PACI! My daughter is sick – and I have no money to go the clinic!

His Indian boss has gone back home – again leaving mess all around! But do we Omanis learn? No – we are very polite and respecting peoples – it is all right ‘for them to shit on our heads’! Remember we are docile and weak? Even if more than 86% of Top GMs and Managers are Indians too – and their whole country is in a mess – but we want them instead to run our country for us! Please! Please!

We need The Marriage License? An Administrator in a Public Hospital to a Omani Mother and her pregnant sick bleeding teenage daughter – in fear of losing her baby! But they cannot find ‘the original’ to be produced! Only then will the Omani teenager be seen by a Doctor!

Is this in Occupied Gaza or Palestine? Or in Israel? No it is right here at home buddy!

Where are you? Sleeping? Don’t you hear me speak?

  • Polarisation differences because the Company Owner from another region will not pay the Consultant (that is me!) because the Indian GM was very rude – and decided to stop the work he was doing for them – even refused payment for the part already done!

Complained to The Big Company also where the contract is from – including copy to The High Official – but simply no takers.

About The Book!

Why I Wrote The Book!

Book Behind Cover Writing!

  • Do not tell me you are going to write this book! I just cannot believe it!British CEO
  • I thought after your last book – and the end of your columns – you will stop writing! You have me pleasantly surprised!Senior Omani Public Official (Retired)

This is my Third Arab Management Book after Psychology of Arab Management Thinking! And A Cry For Help! And my 12th book! Three books are on Road Safety and the balance are based on my columns and writings!

All my Arab Management books have been written after a major upheaval in my life at the work front and elsewhere involving my life! I was always under the impression that my book A Cry For Help! As was going to be my last book in Arab Management with the events that followed proving my case why ‘I needed help!’ as an Arab Manager! Though trying best to keep to myself – and trying to avoid conflict and confrontations as much as I possibly could – but people would not leave me alone! They were still after me!

I then decided to accept the challenge and write this book. Like the other books – I have tried to be as factual as possible – and with my usual style of writing of speaking to you directly from my heart – and to be as sincere, genuine, frank, forthright as possible – so that this book can not only be used in Research works – but as a Guide and Beacon for the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren – and future generations by the Grace of Allah SWT God – Ameen Amen.

It is my Final Attempt to High light a ‘Quickly Deteriorating Situation’ before malaise, stalemate and decadence sets in at The Work Front and its environment! In this book nobody has been spared – and that includes even myself too!

AMMENDED

For Coming Week.

Between Us Only!

More Serious Issues at Stake!

There are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed! – Ray Goforth

Prayers 1  Prayers 2 prayers-3[1]

Images – Let Us Keep Praying! Ameen! Amen!

*** Introduction

It was a pleasant surprise – after the earlier third parties messages sent – that The Chief Editor had called me asking me ‘for a new page and in burying the hatchet – so to speak’ to ‘resume my articles’ – and his assuring comforting words to me that ‘you are an Omani Writer – this newspaper is Omani – and you are writing in your own country too!’ – So I have decided to accept the challenge in resuming it!

Surely out there – there will be quite a lot pleasantly surprised too – and even some saying ‘Oh No! Not Again?’ – But that is life for you – you simply cannot please everyone – and not everyone will like you either! Like I always say – What else is new? Frankly, I have been so much busy in The Social Media instead – and I even dare to say ‘to dangerous levels’! So the change to return to the Main Media is most opportune – and welcomed!

A         Nice To Be Back!

It feels nice now to be back here – as it has been quite a long time since I wrote anything in the esteemed newspaper in the format of any article. Frankly, I have been so much busy in The Social Media instead – and I even dare to say ‘to most dangerous levels’! So the change to return to the Main Media is most opportune – and most welcomed too!

It reminds me of a good friend of mine – a Pilot – whom I had queried a long time ago that as we landed in the Zanzibar small strip I thought I heard brakes as the plane was landing? I thought this was strange – because normally the brakes were being applied after the plane had gone to some distance – not as the plane as it was landing – and this is dangerous even to the layman! Metaphorically, when I used to write my columns I used to ‘apply the brakes’ so to speak as the plane was landing – but now in The Social Media I could write whatever I wanted – to a reasonable level of course!

One thing I have noticed lately – even at the home front that people are at ‘short fuse’ and ready to explode at any moment! My granddaughter was asking me why those ‘bad people were killing innocent children’ – and what have the children done to be killed and to be hurt by this? I cried when one of The Palestinian girls had her legs amputated – including of her mother too! – And poor she was asking her father when ‘When can I have my legs back, Daddy?’ – So heartbreaking and distressing! Sometimes those with children killed could even be classified ‘as luckier’ – than those with the injured and maimed for life children! Arab blood is not cheap as an Arab Leader had said. Another had said that we are ready to go back and ‘ride our camels’ – but is the West ready to do the same – if we ourselves burn all the oil wells to prevent them being taken over by our enemies?

Frankly, I think the World and the Religious Leaders need to sit together to make hard and difficult decisions – so as to save this world from man-made anarchies, calamities, disasters and pure evil – as like ‘letting the Genie out of the bottle’ – or ‘of opening a can of worms’ – so to speak! They have to start by correcting and rectifying all the past mistakes and errors of judgment – and to start in valuing human life equally wherever and whatever they are – devoid of race, religion, ethnicity and creed. Only then could there be hope for mankind!

B         Still On the Job Fronts!

This week there was a good article by one popular Omani Writer about (frightening!) issues in Recruitment of The Youngsters in The Jobs – and mainly related to ‘right training for the right jobs’ – men for jobs vis-à-vis jobs for men in Human Resources slang!

There was an irate letter by one well-meaning and well intentioned European Expatriate – trust them to be more on the frontline than the others! – and possibly drawn out of exasperation – that someone should tell The Youth that not everyone can be a Manager – or get a job in The Public Sector – because there are many vocational and craftsmen jobs out there still manned by expatriates that the Omani Youth can try to absorb and take over! Absolutely right he is – but we have been tuned not to hear and accept the inevitable ‘sort of bad news’ out there!

Then we had a Public Official admitting that ‘we are flexible with Omanisation in Construction Sector – because as it was put ‘Job Seekers are not willing to work as labourers …Omanis can be hired for administration work’! Why administration work – if not Supervisor of the Labourers etc. roles – once you have gone through as they say – from the mail room to the Top Executive – but you definitely need to start from the bottom – even if for a brief period – before you can climb up the hierarchical ladder!

Reminds me of my niece – yes niece! – in Tanzania driving a Caterpillar first time I met her years ago – and now she has moved up to be the Supervisor of the whole road gang! And the men do as they are told – despite occasional snide remarks – that you are a very forceful boss than the man who was there before you! Reminds me also of my Dodge Durango being surrounded by some youths in one interior office location I was doing some HR Consultancy jobs – and after sort of being chased and asked to stop by some youth in their pickup – ‘You are The Consultant! Where are the jobs?’ Next day I returned to Muscat – and thank God had not yet signed for the Temporary Contract per se!

C         Still Misbehaving ‘Invited Guests’ In The Land!

There was a letter sent to me by one very much upset Omani lady asking me to ‘put it in my newspaper column’ – and at the time I told her I did not have the columns anymore – but I will put it in my websites. Due to space constraints – please find the full article here – http://www.majidall.com/2014/08/27/misbehaving-expatriate-arab-women/ . Whatever the case the ‘more modern (foreign) Arab ladies’ were insulting ‘the intelligence’ of the ‘still backward Omani ladies’ – even if she was ‘advanced enough’ to take her children to a private swimming pool facility – on a ladies day only! – And our invited foreign ladies of Arab origin insisting on smoking in front of the children in a public place – with secondary smoking ‘as potential venom to the young children – many below 5 years of age!

D         Arab Management: Reality or Myth? The Arab Manager!

From C above, and moving to Local (mainly Young) Managers and Company Owners (also mainly young sudden riches!) – and their complete disrespect and contempt of more Senior by age, experiences, education and professions Locals – with the usual expatriates’ Mafias in conjunction with The Old Guards – that has been happening to me since my last column over 14 months ago! I did write the two Arab Management books – Psychology of Arab Management Thinking! And A Cry For Help! Long before the so-called Arab Springs hit us! But who cares? And who reads my books? Anyway, D above is my ‘Final Book in Arab Management’ and as a ‘Last Attempt and Desperate Hope’ that someone – especially in The Leadership – will at least read my books – even if not in agreement!

On 25 Aug 2014 22:10,  a good reliable friend (source) sent me this email – about her experiences with some Foreign Arab (Levant) Ladies. Will reproduce verbatim as is self explanatory!

QUOTE –

Dear Majid,

After what had happened to me today I immediately thought of sharing this with you – it might not be the kind of story you want to write in your news forum – please do write it for the sake of omani women.

It all started when I took my kids for swimming in Al Khalili swimming in Al khuwair near the Egyptian school. As usual it was ladies time and the pool was filled with mums and kids – most of the kids were below 5 years of age.  As soon as my girls were changed and in the pool – I took a chair to sit and observe them – then this terrible smell of cigarette started – and in the middle of all kids and other mums were these 4 (shami) ladies smoking. I approached them and politely requested if they want to smoke they should go outside the pool area – they ignored me – so again I explained its not allowed to smoke in such public area where small kids are exposed to smoking – I could not believe their own kids who are like 3 to 5 were just there playing and breathing all the smoke like its nothing.

Ok – back to my story – the lady smoker just looked up at me and gave that look  like nothing happened – I gave her an empty cup and told her in a firm tone – please put that cigarette out. the other shami lady was like its not your business so I lost it and took the cigarette from her mouth and threw down and stepped on it. then they all started attacking me – like smoking was a great thing – I could not believe it they all took cigarettes and I kept repeating its not allowed to smoke there are kids here and they were – this is our rights – so I said what right?? you have no right to smoke between all these small kids – all these other mums do not appreciate what you are doing – they were saying well if you don’t like our smoking then leave the pool!!

Imagine then, she says if we were american you would not have said a thing – so i said if you were american you would have respect for other people – and she said listen – you omani women – you are not like us – we have rights – so I said what rights?? smoking rights? and she answered the moment your rights ends our rights begin. so I said Alhamdullilah I am Omani in Oman so my rights will not end for stupid women like you who fight for smoking like its a wonderful thing. Imagine they had hijabs on and they say – then let Oman ban the swimming costume if they can not allow women to smoke.  so I said we respect that and that is why we have a women day.

I told her off – Lady you may smoke to your death in your home surrounded by your kids but here in public place where there are other women and very small children you should not smoke and don lecture me about rights and i never heard of women rights to smoke maybe in Syria but not in Oman.

and she started swearing on omani women – you omani women you have no thaqafa – thank god we dont have it – if it means we smoke in front of our kids. I have not seen such disrespectful women like shami women – they are rude and just because they do not have values in their country they do not respect other people’s values.

Please majid if you ever get chance put this on your blog.

When Things Turn Really Bad! Reply

 When Things Turn Really Bad!

The Gaza Images of Wanton Destruction and Crimes Against Humanity!

When Things Turn Really Bad!

Dear All & After Compliments;

1          What Has Been Happening So Far!

It has been a long while since I wrote anything in the format of an article for my websites – and as you know my two columns in The Oman Daily Observer took a natural death metaphorically by the wrong prescriptions of drugs and medicines to a slowly dying cancer victim! Sometimes the end comes quicker than expected after remission even – or when the patient was thought to be recovering by a new doctor – who turned out to be even worse than the previous doctors looking after the sick ailing patient – and ‘kicking the bucket’ for all to see!

Of course, with great cheers and happiness from some quarters determined and for some intentional wanting and willing for the columns to end! And yet still with some still craving for some more articles to come out – and a sort of relief that though the columns have ended in the said paper since November 2013 – see here –   – but ‘sort of relieved’ that I was still posting in my websites my articles – mainly in www.majidall.comwww.majidwrite.com – and opinions and views on www.majidsn.com . This apart of my books in www.myownmajid.comwww.myown-ebooks.com and www.majidbooks.com Plus the new websites for Short Takes (Stories) with mainly Omani theme at my new website at www.myshorttakes.com – and the Road Safety website at www.bethesafedriver.com

One can safely say that with all these websites belonging to me – and recently being that active in the Social Media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, What’s Up etc. – the losers are more the newspaper than me – because if there are still followers and fans out there they can still follow me! There are of course those that bought the newspaper only on the days that my articles would appear because they read more Arabic newspapers – and now will not be doing so! And those fans that may be inclined not to buy the newspaper anymore – because my articles no longer appear!

It reminds me of a good friend of mine – a Pilot – whom I had queried a long time ago that as we landed in Zanzibar small strip I thought I heard brakes as the plane was landing? I thought this was strange – because normally the brakes were being applied after the plane had gone to some distance – not as the plane was landing – and this is dangerous even to the layman! Metaphorically, when I used to write my columns I used to ‘apply the brakes’ so to speak as the pane was landing – but now in The Social Media I could write whatever I wanted to a reason without an Editing Staff interference – and as in many cases just for them to show they had power and control to ‘edit your articles’! Trust my Indian friends ‘not to let you down’! J !

2          The Gaza Impact

Take from me because all that I had wanted to say were in The Social Media where I was very active to what some may even dare to say to ‘dangerous levels’ – but a time comes in life when you have to do the ‘Right Thing at The Right Time’ – and that the ‘element of fear’ has long gone now! Or even if you do put a brave front – what is the difference – or what else is new? – As I like often to ask!

One thing I have noticed – even at home that people are at ‘short fuse’ and ready to explode at any moment! My granddaughter was asking me why those bad Jews (!) were killing innocent children – and what have the children done to be killed and to be hurt by this? I cried when one of The Palestinian girl had her legs amputated – including her mother too! – And she was asking her father when ‘When can I have my legs back, Daddy?’ – So heartbreaking and distressing – Sometimes those with children killed could even be classified ‘as luckier’ – than those with injured and maimed for life children!

Arab blood is not cheap as an Arab Leader had said. Another had said that we are ready to go back and ‘ride our camels’ – but is the West ready to do the same – if we ourselves burn all the oil wells to prevent them being taken over by our enemies!

Anyway, I was just watching Obama giving justifications of attacking the so-called Iraqi ‘Muslim’ fundamentalists to ‘protect the Yazidi people of Iraq! Sic! What about Gazans and The Palestinians Mr. Obama. I am sorry I voted for you in my way – I think even Bush was better and had more guts and courage than you Obama! I guess your converted Muslim father must be turning in his grave – the poor man! But then it must not be forgotten that Israel is also occupying, dominating and controlling USA UK and all the others – just as The West Bank is! Enough for a moment on Gaza – but I want to talk here on the repercussions of Gaza!

3          The Gaza Affects!

This week I had two incidents.

One

It was at a place that I had gone ‘for services’ but the treatment was at best ‘much wanting’ from such a high profile place always in the news! So I went instead to another pace where I was ‘treated better and more professionally cum ethically’ to my full satisfaction. I should have left it at that – but silly stupid me I never learn from my lessons – and I went up to put a claim for refund from the first place. They bluntly refused – so again I should have let things lie and accept my loss – but when I encountered that if it were a VIP or a customer of their likes – they would have refunded! All hell was let loose! With all kinds of provocations including the element of my writings! See this one for good measure www.majidwrite.com/2014/01/07/being-proud-conceited-and-haughty-in-life/ and even this one too! www.majidwrite.com/2012/10/28/the-disease-of-pride/ in elaborating and making the point!

This supposed to be Professional High Profile Person was so provocative and hurtful – and he had the guile and guts to tell me that ‘this is the reason your articles got ended’! Sic! and Double Sic! I respected and esteemed this person highly – and I had always considered him as ‘a brother and friend’ – but he got angry at me because I attacked his Secretary for saying NO to me as if she had this Authority to say No! So sad and tragic really!

Two

A simple request from a family member who was having his first daughter getting married and in good trust and faith had come to me for whatever I could muster to help him – seeing especially daughters’ marriages to be very expensive! I saw it myself a few months ago with my youngest daughter when I ended literally bankrupted!

So I passed the request to the other members of the family and relatives! Trust people to bring past histories – and past errors of judgments and mistakes to light – when that poor person has ‘as the East Africans say – Kuchonga Uso – that is ‘literally carving up my face’ in shame to ask others for favours and help! My late Father always warned us – the fastest way to lose respects and standings from people is to go to others to ask for help and favours! And the difference between men and God is that the more you ask from God Allah SWT He is more pleased with you – whist with human beings it is exactly the opposite!

Our Religion also tells us – that we should be kind and compassionate to our fellow human beings – and if we cannot then do not expect Allah God to be so inclined to you either on The Day of Reckoning and as they lower your body into the ground for burial! With ants, worms and others waiting to consume your body for a festive meal!

So this one family member ‘reminded me of what this man’s father – sic! – had done to our father before in their past lives! Why should we keep grudges of the past – when both the elders had forgiven each other? And for us the off springs to keep on the feud? And what has this poor girl getting married done as a mistake? Her grandfather parents mistakes? So she should be held accountable too! We forget that the same God that gave you – is the same God that denied this person!

This week I was very sick person with my glucose count down as a result of watching the Gaza scenes! And abdomen pain that found itself to be prostate too! Thank God so far not terminal or cancerous!

I need to take things easier and calmer now – but I guess the after effects of Gaza have hit many – and the vicious cycle seems for each one of us to turn against each other – instead of directing it to The Real Causer and Enemy! What hurts more are that in both cases I thought I was dealing with peoples friendly and known to me – but the end results and how these people turned out worse is very scary and alarming! God Allah Help and Protect and Preserve us all Ameen Amen.

I will not involve the case of doing a Human Resources Consultancy job for one Local Company from The South owned – and how I got raw treated and lost money (again and again)! How cruel and unkind we are to each other is not only scary and frightening – but is just an Omen of just more bad things and disasters waiting to happen to us! But I have said all these things already in my Arab Management books – A Cry For Help! – www.myownmajid.com and Psychology of Arab Management Thinking! www.trafford.com/08-0889

The only good news I had this week – from the stomach of evil came blessings – as The Arabs like to say – is this – please read it too! – http://bethesafedriver.com/2014/08/04/arabic-behind-the-wheel-book-now-available-on-line/

gaza-assault[1]

Or Live and Let Live!

I am writing this as a human being – and a citizen of the land – and with rights and freedom to express myself – though trust me – I hate ‘politics’ for sure – and even in writing it!

Writing is a struggle against silence. Carlos Fuentes

This article was written on November 5 2012 with the last invasion. If you read it all over again – it is history repeating itself against the biggest prison camp in the world of Gaza – whilst so-called Democracy and Freedom Preachers and their Associates and The Hypocrites look the other way – because they are more afraid of people rather than God Allah SWT! Shame on all of them – especially The Hypocrites!

Horrific Gaza Images – Family of 10 killed in their home!

As a small boy of 5 years of age I used to wonder out aloud this tease from the African elders that they used to make after a hawk (eagle) has scooped down and taken up in the air the hurriedly and scurriedly running for cover baby chickens with its mother. Even the cock used to run too – instead of facing its ground the adversary! The tease (joke) was that the chickens were cursing that ‘May the sky fall on the eagle!’ You cannot blame the Mother Chicken for saying that seeing its baby has already been taken away by the hawk! It is a desperate vain attempt to go on with life – with all the hawks around!

You will excuse me for the also simile and the metaphor – especially to those that love and defend our adversaries in privacy and in secrecy – whilst pretending and acting in front of us for whatever reason like wishing to keep the job and welcome etc. But if I was a play or drama writer – and I had money to spare – I would write this satirical tragical drama of how the so-called Israeli leaders find themselves lumped together and meeting Hitler in burning eternal hell – and their protesting that a grave and serious mistake has been made! Only this time of all the machinations and schemers of their controlling media and their supporters would not work – because it is God that they are facing now!

Horrific Gaza Images – Family of 10 killed in their home!

In my life one thing that I hate the foremost is in ‘cursing people’ – but I can easily curse those people that do not see much or a great deal of killed babies, children and women – and even men – when bombs rain down on their homes – and killing entire families at one go! Sometimes I feel that even if he is in Hell – but Hitler and his Nazi cronies cannot afford but smile seeing his victims ‘doing it also to other peoples’!

Horrific Gaza Images – Family of 10 killed in their home!

You will excuse me also for sounding religious and all the semantics and similes involved – and for those that do not know it – or know but prefer to marginalise and to ignore! But our Great Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) – peace be upon him – is turning in his grave seeing his grandchildren doing these things to each other! I am saying this as a Grandfather feels seeing sometimes my innocent young grandchildren fight each other – and with typical ‘chip of the old block’ feelings and expressions like ‘do not like you’ escapades and remarks!

Horrific Gaza Images – Family of 10 killed in their home!

I am very certain and convinced that there would be some people saying to me that you are only looking at one side of the story – and not both sides – and ‘we expected better things from you’! I would retort that is how they control their media and our minds and outlooks – because Israel (and their supporters – disappointing others again – too soon too!) – are very good in pushing things to the maximum – and when people react – unfortunately negatively and to their disadvantage – they start ‘history and episodes’ from these incidents – and not from the start of what they did! Sadly and with great hurt and sadness too their blind supporters of whatever Israel is doing to others.

When Saddam Hussein attacked Iran (the Mullahs!) we in the Arab world remained quiet and passive – though we were warned and cautioned that one day he will do the same to us when that was over. Either we ignored it – or thought it could never happen – but it did happen in the invasion of Kuwait – and all Hell was let loose!

It seems to me that once again we have not learnt our lessons of history. I am saying that with due respects to both sides of the equation – that wants to divide the Islamic world into contrasting and conflicting political zones! And if those that see what is happening in Gaza now do not awake up from this deep sleep and slumber – then let them sleep for good and not wake up ever again – because a person who can do this to your own brother ‘is definitely not your ally and or friend either! And you have got your priorities all mixed-up and all wrong!

And that brings me to my next point I wish to make here too! The biggest casualty and victim in such wars is The Truth! It is just degrading and shameful – I would even say disgusting, repugnant and pathetic when ‘people in leadership’ who should know better take side to support blindly what the true Aggressor is doing to other human beings! Also to both sides not to make a worse situation turn even more worse!

If the Arab spring uprisings have not forewarned and w\’woken them up’ – let me try a desperate last attempt in resuscitation! Which is this! Even the young Arab true blood (and even Muslim) abhor and are disgusted to see what is going on – and done to other people by these peoples – who were themselves holocaust victims – but have now easily and conveniently forgotten. Our Great Prophet Moses (Musa) is just another chapter in the history!

What I mean to say that future relationships between people – especially with the young ones – are critically damaged – and that is not only internationally and globally – but even internal too. The world now has become a more dangerous and unsafe place with all that is going on – and the increased extremism, fundamentalism and radicalisation – and sadly and tragically with the younger ones too – and the future leaders in society

People should learn to live and let live – and we have enough problems and hardships already to be increased by such unneeded wars, destructions, malaise, decadence and wastages of wars. And we will all die one day – and meet our Maker! If you had escaped the Human Rights courts of the world – there is definitely a Higher Judge just waiting for you – and that will be the day when you meet him!

I would advise Israelis and all their supporters to hear the interview between Sir Robert Frost and Bishop Desmond Tutu in Al Jazeera – posted here too in www.majidwrite.com – and time to change fast before it is too late!

May peace, understanding, tolerance, co-existence and patience prevail – including pragmatism and senses – Amin Amen! Take Care!

A Personal Message! Reply

Message To My Fans & Readers!

Dear All & After Compliments;

Ramadhan Kareem!

Whenever I go out (which is rarely nowadays!) and in social gatherings – I get the same questions – again and again – as to when my articles in Between Us Only! series in The Oman Daily Observer will resume? Or if I had tried the other newspapers like Times of Oman and Muscat Daily? I have – but did not succeed!

I used to write for Muscat Daily a few years ago with the Column Title At My Workplace! After a series of articles – and as I was under the impression of getting payments? – they said NO to me because they thought ‘I was just volunteering for free’! Nobody gives you lunch nowadays for free – so why with my articles!

Frankly I have tried hard with The Oman Daily Observer – but the new people there (The Old Guards and The Mafias Joint Scheme) are dead set against my articles – started with a ‘technicality’ to reduce my column schedule for only one per week! I had two columns – one Between Us Only! on Sundays and At The Workplace! (Offices Related) on Wednesdays. They started by removing the columns headings – so it showed I was writing two columns under one name! I refused to reduce my columns sequences – because we had a valid written enforceable contract – and two sides must agree to any changes! This was sidelined and marginalized – because no one in his right senses and mind can sue a Governmental Newspaper – and expect any favourite results – or inadvertently consequences and repercussions per se!

See what I am saying is this!

First – The East Africans say – If someone wants to insult you – he does not need to choose his words carefully! Because anything will do (go) – because the sole purpose is ‘just to insult you’! There is also the expression that if you are a guest in a house – the host does not need to tell you to go – and you have exceeded your welcome! Body signs and mannerisms would just do the trick for you to get the signals – that it is time for you to go now!

Also the expression – if someone denies you beans (mbaazi) he only reduces your gas (mishuuzi!) – with due apologies. Forget for now – Utakioona kilicho mtoa khanga manyoya! Now you will see how the turkey lost its feathers! Like most metaphors – it means something much bigger than just literal meaning!

Second – there is nothing that I have not covered in my 13 years duration with the said newspapers! Nothing – simply put! Even taboo subjects that most writers are scared to even border – let alone touch!

Third – All my articles are in my books. You can order them directly if you wish! Even the bookshops returned my books – and one is so notorious (expatriate) to even have called me to say – Come and take your books – they are just occupying space – and NOBODY wants to buy them!

This kind of thing can ONLY happen in Oman – because we are docile people – scared stiff of certain groups of expatriates that have come to dominate, control and rule us – that we bend backwards ‘in order just to look nice and sound pleasant’! – and we all compete for places to sound nice and good to them.

Mind you the majority of the expatriates are good decent nice people – who appreciate and respect the welcome and reception given to them as ‘invited guests’ in our country! But there are a few misguided and supported by some forces internally that think and act otherwise – and these are the people that do most harm and damages – and that includes stopping their few who dare to speak shut up – so we can still control and dominate them for longer still!

Allah God Help and Protect Preserve us all – Ameen Amen!

Fourth – You can still order my books directly as here below:-

Fifth – Let me rest now! I am tired banging my head against brick walls – and making it red and bruised only! Besides, I am dead tired – and have learnt to let go of all the Excess Baggage I have been carrying for so long – and the losers is only my family and I!

I have learnt to accept my fate – and whatever will come – let it come now!

I have been known to have said so many times in the past – I told you so! But you did not listen to me! I can still say that once again – if needed to be said!

The Romans have said – Those that the gods want to destroy – they make them not see, hear or speak! Or us Arabs – There is no one so blind but with eyes – but cannot see! So deaf but with ears – but cannot hear! And so dumb – but with a mouth – but cannot speak!

A good friend (British) once advised cautioned me – if you were in Saddam Team – you would have ended shot – as the first ones too!

Let me rest now. I am now 65 – with different priorities – and the paramount now is my family – my children and grandchildren!

Please forgive me and with my due sincere and genuine apologies!

Take Care!

Ramadhan Kareem!

A Cry For Help

We Need To Be Really Serious! Reply

1 - Wipe My Tears A - A Cry For Help!

The Need To Be Really Serious!

On 7th June 2014 by Allah God Blessing I became 65 years old! Allah God Is Merciful! Allah Is Compassionate! Ameen Amen

A very good Indian friend of mine called me to wish me birthday greetings and to talk about the advertisement I had put in the newspapers as below –

Omani HR Management Consultant Expert Advisor UK educated and trained retired PDO 25 years experiences all aspects HR Training Development Omanisation etc. looking for temporary job 8 to 1 pm or Project work majid@majidsuleimany.com

Typically, he asked me if anyone from his company had contacted me – because being in Management – he knew that they were looking for a full time experienced HR Professional (Omani) but have still not found one that was meeting their requirements and expectations! He wondered aloud with me as ‘to why they did not grab this opportunity’ being thrown at them? I said I would not do – but he should know better as he was working for the Company – and he was in Management himself!

Frankly, I have received some offers that included:-

  • Selling Life and Insurance policies.
  • Logistics (Temporary job) related.
  • Sort of Senior PRO job (Temporary) – You have driving license Omani?
  • Customs Clearances job!
  • Other jobs not related to Human Resources
  • Petty offers for real HR jobs that they will not even pay lower end Visiting Consultants and Experts – but can be offered to Omanis – by fellow Top Omanis Owners, Managers – and also Expatriate ones too!

Nothing has changed much on the ground – and the mindsets have remained unmovable and unchanged – despite changes all around them – and all the rhetoric and façade of pushing Human Resources, Training and Development, Omani Recruitment and in Omanisation aspects!

As a LinkedIn member, I get so many requests from young Omanis for connections – ‘Looking For A Job’! My heart breaks out and burns when I look at their profiles and I find that many are educated and qualified – but lack work experiences! Still yet no one has come forward to offer them a break or an opportunity! I know of certainty of my niece educated and trained in Oman in a Omani College with Omani Credentials and Qualifications in Human Resources – two years down the line – with No Job Offer – despite HR being the rage – and most talked after subject – even before SMEs and Self Employment per se!

Many of them have had their families educate and train them – or now have to pay back Educational Assistance loans that they have taken from the Banks – which places a heavy burden on their families – causing rifts and strife at home – even bordering domestic violence syndromes! Some have lived very difficult and hard lives – in order to survive in teaching and educating their children! Some have even sold their villas and extra cars in order to improvise and survive – with no let out or light at the end of the tunnel! With family strife – and breaking up of the families – and their youngsters jobless wandering off ‘to lost give up ways’ – bad company, drugs and violence trends!

Every day I look at the newspapers – and find adverts from ‘Visiting Oman’ Applicants looking for a job – many of them highly qualified and experienced – and who are ready to accept far low packages offer ‘if they work at home’ – or not formally linked to the employing companies!

The bitter truth is that many of the General Managers and CEOs are Expatriate controlled – and even the few ones by locals are by The Old Guards that prefer ‘no rocking of the boat’ – and want expatriates under them so they can ‘control them’. Similarly the Expatriate ones want meek docile not strong characters Omanis under them – more as a window shopping exercise – and for façade, showoff and rhetoric mainly!

That is why they prefer to promote ex HES, PRO and Admin Clerks as HR Managers – so they can do their bidding – and can agree to be controlled – both by The Expatriate Mafia = and The Weak distrusting Old Guards – that simply do not value our own – and like I always say in my writings – like that General that ‘shoots at his own troops’ or ‘friendly fire’ in military terms! Forget about ‘collateral damage’ for a change!

How long can these things go on before the cinder fire burning heatedly deep inside explodes?

Yet we see all around the havoc and destructions live on Television – from neighbouring countries to far – some brewing internally – and some already on the surface – starting from a minor thing like 20 students graffiti to ‘destruction of the whole country’ – to farcial elections of new leaderships in failing environments – with more to come still?

Like the Arabs say too – No one is deaf but with ears but cannot hear – blind with eyes but cannot see – and with a mouth but cannot speak! Or allow others to speak! Or as The Romans say – Those that the gods want to destroy – they make them not hear, see or speak!

If things can be done to Senior Qualified Experienced Omanis – even in High Places – that should know better – and lead by examples – away from repeating things in rhetoric and façade – acts and pretenses – like in Animal Farm by George Orwell – the Fundamental and Big Question to ask here is –

How can the Young Omani fare in The Private Sector with everything working against him all around!

You be The Judge – and You Answer The Question!

No wonder they wanted to Kill off my columns as soon as they could!.

This is My Last Call! I am really – really – really tired banging my head against brick walls – and making it swollen and red only – and The Real Loser – again and again – is me personally and my direct family only!

We Need to Be Really Serious – before it is too late for everyone – and we lost that thing that we dearly loved and valued – by not preserving it – letting it grow and prosper – by our selfishness, bad hearts and intentions – by polarization – and failing to  –

Stand as One! Under One Flag – One Nation – One HM!

Destroying all his Great Works – and failing to appreciate and value his personal sacrifices – that has made us today hold our heads high with dignity, respect and esteem!

May Allah God Direct us all to The Straight Path and Way – Ameen Amen

I did not put any pictures – because ALL THESE THINGS I HAVE SAID BEFORE!

THIS IS MY LAST CALL!

Take Care!

Dear All & After Compliments;

PDO Talents Day  Trafford Release  PP Native Cover.4097374.indd  2 - Behind The Wheel Cover

A         What Has Been Happening So Far!

One can safely say that with all these websites belonging to me – and recently being that active in the Social Media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Whats’ Up etc.

On 12th of May 2014 – there was a PDO Talents Day – and due to the New Management style now in Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) – I was invited to display my books by the External Affairs Department – EAD – under Engineer Abdul Ameir Al Ajmi and through the leadership and guidance of Raoul Restucci – the good man! With a new openness, foresight and pragmatism – of bringing in more fairness, ethics, principles, professionalism all around in the company – its modus operandi and its environment!

Trust me in saying this but I had carried a lot of Excess Baggage and past bad memories and recriminations with me – and with exceptions of going to the PDO Clinic as ‘wife’ to my working wife still there – just avoided the place – until I got the call that they were translating my book (and for publishing few copies) of my Road Safety Books – Being The Safe Driver! – www.createspace.com/4097374 and Behind The Wheel! – www.createspace.com/4655681 – and more after being invited formally to present my books to the VIPS (Dr.Rumhy and Dr. Sunaidy etc) and as belonging to The PDO Family!

This bit made me feel so ashamed and so bad – and I cried in my heart and with a few tears out! Just shows that if you treat people right and ethical – they may surprise you with what they can deliver! And that is Raoul for you as the new man at the helm in PDO!

In all my mind, I had never thought or imagined that I would be welcomed in into this new great Office building – and display my books! I only visualized how I even was always finding excuses not to drop Madam Wife at the office – because of the heartache and pain inside me – mainly attributed by my mentality of not wanting to forget! And unnecessarily carrying so much Excess Baggage with me! The turning point for me was when HE Dr. Rumhy told Dr. Sunaidy (HE Ministry of Commerce and Industries) that ‘this is his book that he got an award in USA’ – Psychology of Arab Management Thinking! – USA Gold Seal Literary Excellence Award 2013 – and he himself being USA educated – and during those times when I looked after Overseas Training in PDO – as the only sole man in charge! Of USA Dollars 18 million per year – and thank God and my upbringing – never took even a Baiza that did not belong to me! God Is Great! God Is Merciful!

B         So What Else Is New?

Frankly I had imagined that I would die with my Toyota Camry banger – 8 years old – and gone to 190,000 kms – but the surprise was mine when I still got 2300 OMR for it in exchange of a new GMC Yukon! Those who remember my case will remember how bad I felt in losing my Dodge Durango and my daughter Majda took it over from me! The surprise was all mine when I was now able to get this Yukon instead – incidentally also silver coloured! My favourite colours have been blue, silver, gold and white for my cars in my life!

I have also been chatting with my 5 months old granddaughter Sibel bint Fahad on Modi and The Indian Elections – and other issues – and I do not know what babies’ minds think – but I guess baby had to smile and glee to please granddad as if she knew what I was taking to her about! You would imagine she was apt to understand with her mother Oman born but Pakistani too!

As the good wife was heard to ruefully acclaim – I think you are losing your faculties and mind – by talking to baby on such grand big issues – but the irony was that when granny wanted to take baby out of the ‘hearing scene equation’ – baby cried to be back with grandfather! I guess one day she too will be a great author and writer too – if not going into politics instead! Sic!

C         Okay – So What About The Topic You Started? Remember? Being Positive At Work?

Yes we know M – you have the knack of taking your time to come to the point! Perhaps that infuriated some of them – especially the new man? Or as they say – you take your Reader up to the bridge – and let himself decide whether to cross the bridge – or return? That we know of you M!

D         Being Positive At Work!

You know this thing had made me so raving made that I decided to post in the newspaper as below – in the hope that this place especially would be interested – and I can give them ‘a piece of my mind’ in the hope of changing ‘fixed mind sets’ – like Ghandi had said – I claim to be a simple individual liable to err like any other fellow mortal. I own, however, that I have humility enough to confess my errors and to retrace my steps and EinsteinA problem cannot be solved by the same level of mind that created it!

The advertisement ran – MBA Omani HR Management Consultant Expert Advisor UK educated and trained Early Retired PDO 25 years experiences in all aspects of HR Training Development Omanisation etc. looking for temporary part time job 8 to 1 pm or Project work majid@majidsuleimany.com – Muscat Daily this week!.

What Happened?

I needed some personal services at a certain prestigious famous place! The first case was just for a copy of an original document that had been given to me! I had the copy – the place I had approached before in the services needed the original resubmitted. So I went to the place. The good man at the other end insisted on me to reapply from scratch again! I knew this process would take a long time and was tiresome! So I asked him whom I can go to get a replacement Original Copy – The Usual To Whom It May Concern Letter!

Frankly I do not know why this public place needed again the same letter I had given to them before – with the usual excuse ‘we could not find the original in your file’ – or just lazy and incompetent not to be bothered to go and look!

So the good man gave me a contact in the Head Offices – and when I called her she told me – come and collect it anytime you are ready to collect – or can send to your branch (or any other branch for that matter!). In actual fact your Branch can give you this letter!

So I went back to the man – and passed on what I was just told! Again at a professional place – the man said – this is not our job – but the Head Offices only! You have to go there to collect it!

I was contemplating to do this – when a brain wave struck me – to go to another Branch to get the letter – and the Incharge gave me the same required letter within 10 minutes with reference to the copy at hand!

I had another issue of the same place. This time I went to The Manager! The good lady said to me – Yes it can be done! But unfortunately she sent me to the same person like before! I knew it! He said – It cannot be done this way! This time I got angry – and told him off!

Anyway, he still won in the end – by doing some changes to what I had originally wanted! Though in a way you can say almost fully done!

Now you see why I was raving mad!

Do you see the difference?

One is a negative mind that sees everything as a problem and difficult – whilst the other was POSITIVE and pragmatic – that sees a solution in almost everything requested of them!

Some people will never change – they take sadistic pleasure to make things difficult for customers – even if in a Public or Professional place for that matter!

Like I cynically and skeptically always say – What else is new? Things have not changed much – at least I stopped writing my columns!

The mind just boggles – could that be a reason my articles died? That I open my mouth too much to speak my mind? You be The Judge!

Oman – Please Do Not Cry For Me Anymore Now!

How Oman Has Changed In Its Ways!

Buying a car on Hire Purchase at age of 55 plus? Think Again!

Pontiac Bonneville Yukon 1 Yukon

A long time ago I walked into this car showroom in Ruwi and saw this beautiful car and immediately fell in love with it! It was the Pontiac Bonneville – now no longer made!

There was this nice old Oman man and he called me over and asked me if I liked the car? Maybe he saw me the way I was looking at it? I told him Yes – but will come in two months time to see what I could do! He asked me my name – and he recognized my father as one he did business with – and wanted to meet him if possible?

A few days later they met embraced and cried together – remembering the old days. By this time I had been given the car already – and the poor kind hearted man – Allah Rest his soul in eternal peace in this world and the next – and open the doors for the highest heavens for him – Ameen – he took money from his own dishdasha to pay for Registration. My family were shocked to see me with the new car!

Yesterday in the same business house they wanted a Guarantor for the GMC Yukon and though provided yet was still turned down! Why? Because I am over 55 and have No Wastah!

How times change! The difference of course having an expatriate (Indian) GM who calls All The Shots! And he remembered my Columns and my articles! Even though those too are now dead! With a new man calling all the shots! Conditions after conditions were set just to make things difficult and more difficult. Famous style well known of finding formality to just say NO purposefully and willfully!

Even the Banks etc. think that you can drop dead at any minute! Thus it is better if you go to the Saih Dhabi funeral grounds and just wait for your turn to kick the bucket!

Though I have seen so many higher brackets younger ones going fast – and some sadly as Road Casualties! But no problem! I have seen cars with green plate numbers (test drive new) also meet with tragic fatalities!

There are those in Top positions who have lots of financial issues – but easily and fast given the loans!

Did you know that even the so-called Islamic Banks also think just the same? Even the new completely Fresh Ones for that matter! So where is the Islam part here?

I could live to 102 years old – and that young man at 35 die just tomorrow! Only Allah God Knows these secrets! Not us human beings! Certainly Not Financial Houses – many run by Non Omanis Non Believers too! Even if Omani and Believers too!

It is all so confusing and complexing!

Reactions Received – My Letter To The Newspaper!

Fan (Omani) – I think your reaction to the newspaper was to the point. My only advice is that don’t allow the other party to get the best of you. Don’t sound emotional. Just give them your piece of mind and move on..

Lady Fan (Omani)  – Well , its one’s duty to speak up when things don’t go well, if I were you I would have kept quiet cause its just like talking to a wall. Its not heard and nobody cares. Its just losing ur face over and over again and nobody cares. I will never agree with you the way you humiliate ur self. You are a talented man you deserve the best of the respect. Be calm Majid it won’t harm you and Allah sees everything. Be patient. If one door closes the other will open. Believe me.

Fan (Omani) – Spot on. I think there is a lot of hypocrisy in our society. You call a spade a spade and that’s quite admirable. Very few people have the guts to go openly public in expressing a critical opinion. Did you get any response?

From A Dr. Phd – Dr. Faris Al Hajri – See Comments Here

Dear Mr Majid, We strongly support your endeavor. Remember, the best writers, noble people, celebrities, scientists, etc, were at first neglected by their own people; that is in West during the past centuries. But; today it all changed. So keep up, never give up, you’re a very great writer, never let any negative people or pessimistic people put you down, the most you succeed, the more their feel ashamed of their wrong acts.

Finally, the Universe will respond to you abundantly. Keep up with those who are attracted by you, keep some distance to those who neglect you.

Keep looking at your achievements most whenever you get upset of a specific incident. You’re great in the eyes of many who deserve to see your smiles.  Cheers!!!

Senior Omani Professional  – I admire your guts and in your sincerity to want to make changes in things before they go really bad!

My Letter To The Newspaper! 1

My Letter To The Newspaper (My Columns!)

Dear Chief Editor & Team

After Compliments;

I would like to express my thanks and appreciation for your turning down my article – No Money For The Crayons! For your Weekend Magazine despite a personal call and plea from you yourself to me to send in the article.

The Weekend came – but  my article was not in!

Nobody had called me earlier to explain why the article did not appear. As my style, I sent in my emotional query. The response was ‘the article was not suitable for our requirements’ – but I guess it was your rights and decisions to accept or reject any article. No one can argue or dispute that!

Sadly, the article was received well in the social media including WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Tumblr, Google Plus etc – and I did send you some feedbacks – which as usual were unacknowledged and ignored – as usual! What else is new?

It gave me courage to create my own website dedicated to Short Takes (Stories) here at http://www.myshorttakes.com/

Sadly too, despite a signed contract with the person you took over from  –  my contract of two columns per week and a formal WRITTEN notice of one month from both sides for any changes – I was unceremoniously removed by ultimatum of only one article – take it or leave it – and I chose ‘to leave it’ – or as we lot born in Zanzibar like to say ‘rubbing salt into the wound’! Sic!

So sad and tragic!

And all this because I previously complained bitterly for being delayed in payments for over even 6 months – and then deciding which article to pay or not!

It is sad and tragic how our National Governmental Newspaper can treat this way long time running National Columnists!

But nothing is surprising – because that is how things are goiing now – and one has to accept the status quo only!

On Monday 7th April, 2014 there was a PDO Petroleum Development Oman Retirees Party. As you may know if interested, the biggest chunk of my Readers come from PDO and The MOG Sector – being one of them. Plus Omanis that read English Newspapers more – and all The Residents, Guests and Friends in Oman – AlHamdu Lillah – God Is Great! Ameen – Amen!

I told them they can follow me in The Social Media if still interested – and if they have any issues I can refer them to past articles.

Dear Sirs  – you yourself told me in more than one hour chat with you why you left your previous job to join here!

But I do not blame you – because The Truth is people want the dirt to be pushed under the carpet and those like me daring to speak are targetted, sidelined and marginalised.

The Truth can NEVER BE STOPPED – it is all issues of time and dire consequences and repercussions only!

Nice knowing you all and thanks for the iPhone 5 Ramadhan Gift – at the cost of my columns.

Let me be clear! I do not want resumption of my columns even if paid 100 Rials per article. This is not only for you  but sadly all the other newspapers in Oman for that matter.

Take care and wishing you and your families all the best – and my sincere genuine apologies!

Goodbye….

More you can Google Search. Many articles here – Driving in the rain!

*** The Times of Oman article –

Muscat: If the headline sounds familiar, it should. Times of Oman last Wednesday urged drivers to slow down during the rain and avoid the overflowing wadis. That very night, despite his brother’s pleadings, Salim Al Kalbani, 28, tragically risked crossing a wadi despite the downpour, a decision that claimed his life and could have killed his younger sibling, Hamad Al Kalbani, 26, too. So today, with more rain forecast in parts of the Sultanate, we say don’t listen to us, listen to the words of a grieving Hamad, who survived narrowly after their car was swept away by the turbulent waters of Wadi Kabir in the wilayat of Ibri.

“I tried to convince him to wait till the water flow comes down. However, he believed in his vehicle’s power to cross the wadi,” said Hamad, an Ibri resident. “I decided to jump from the window as many citizens and civil defence force personnel were trying to help us after the wadi flow started sending the vehicle adrift. “I tried to help my brother but he got trapped inside the vehicle and couldn’t survive,” said Hamad, who had a narrow escape, thanks to the help from citizens and civil defence force personnel.

“I lost my brother and I feel really bad that I couldn’t stop him from crossing the wadi at first and couldn’t rescue him when the wadi washed away the car. If I can go back in time, I would stop my brother from crossing the wadi even if I had to use force,” said Hamad. The Royal Oman Police and the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) frequently try to prevent such tragedies by sending out weather warnings, but these are often ignored by young men in their 20s. But it’s not just men driving into trouble. Each incident risks the lives not only of those unwitting or foolhardy enough to risk the weather, but also endangers those who go to their rescue.

Heroic rescue

In a heroic incident, also last Wednesday, a young man, who heard screams of a woman and her children coming from a vehicle that was being swept away by a wadi in Nizwa, decided to risk his life and tried to prevent the vehicle from drifting away in the wadi. The man was able to save the entire family from what seemed certain death. However, residents of Nizwa urged the government to find a solution to the wadis flowing in the Souq area as they always suffer damages and casualties. The Al Dakhiliyah region witnesses heavy rains that lead to a lot of wadis overflowing and converging in front of the Souq area, causing massive flow of water that makes it difficult to cross the main road there. In response, the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance in Nizwa is trying to find a way to avoid damages like the ones that occurred due to the wadi flow in Nizwa Souq area when it had rained last. Plan afoot to curb flooding dangers

A reliable source at the Public Authority Civil Defence and Ambulance told Times of Oman that the authority is open to several solutions, including building a dam or finding a way to change the route of the wadi’s flow. “The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance in Nizwa believes that the new road project connecting Farq to Tanouf will help avoid damages suffered during rains,” the source explained. He added that the project is ongoing and expected that once finished, it would result in smooth flow of traffic during rain and help normalise life.

The PACDA is still investigating a case in which a man went missing after his car fell off a cliff overlooking a wadi in the Wilayat of Dima Wa Al Tayeen. The Wilayat of Dima Wa Al Tayeen received heavy rainfall on Saturday night. Though it is not known whether the accident was connected to heavy rains witnessed in the area, onlookers speculated the weather conditions could have led to the mishap. Residents of the wilayat told Times of Oman that it is not the first time they had witnessed such an incident.

They apprehended that the wadi flow swept away the body towards Dhaiqah Wadi where all the wadis of Tayeen meet. A reliable source at PACDA told Times of Oman that the search operation is ongoing. He added that the search would cover the Dhaiqah Dam after finishing search operations in all the wadis of the Wilayat of Dima Wa Al Tayeen. Cloud development over the Governorate of Musandam and Al Batinah is expected to bring light rain to the area in the next 48 hours, according to Directorate General of Meteorology and Air Navigation forecast.

Paak Ghaya!

Fruit A

Images Rotten(Overripe)  Fruit – For Demonstration Purposes Only!

For those who do not know what it means, I know you are dying to let me tell you what it means, but have patience with me Dear Reader; because it is going to be clear in the next few sentences! I can assure you that it is Hindi, just in case you are wondering what it all means! And why not? After all, I have a great following in this group too!

You know those of us so-called Human Resources Professionals always say this thing – it is not the reasons given to you by a Staff who is leaving the establishment (mad house! Or one flew over the cuckoo’s nest!) That is valid and being more important but actually what was it that had prompted that person to start to look for another job in the first instance that is more important! Does not make any sense, or is the gist lost in its meanings? Let me explain.

In normal what they refer in Human Resources as an Exit Interview (let us ask you why you are leaving interview), the Staff may give a number of reasons why. For example the salary is higher being received in the new place. Perhaps and or fringe benefits and perks, or a higher more senior job even if sometimes there maybe no visible financial advantages per se (in some cases even losing out financially – but then you may be right in thinking that no ‘one is mad enough’ to do such a thing! You may be right too, but do not forget that there is a mad house out there too, and peoples are capable of doing the least and when expected syndromes too!). But then it is easy for us to judge as ‘outsiders’ and unless these things have happened to you or are happening to you now! Trust my word on it, I know I have been there too, in many times and too close for comfort either!

What I am trying to say here is this – as an establishment you need to find out what was it that had prompted that staff to apply outside in the first instance! It could be a small thing to the boss in charge and or to the establishment, but could be a major issue and or catastrophe to the Staff. For example when a Boss shouts and screams to a subordinate in front of his own peers and his own subordinates, what does this Boss expect? What do we have big rooms for Managers and Supervisors for? It is to use for privacy and discuss sensitive issues in the privacies of those rooms. Like a sceptic friend of mine would have remarked – The big rooms surely not for decoration, but for usage. He would go on to say – God gave you brains to use, and this too not for decorations!

It isn’t the 100th blow that knocks a good man down. It’s the 99 that went before: This is why people leave organizations – Azim Premji. – WHY EMPLOYEES LEAVE ORGANISATIONS? – (much of this article is based from that article) unquote.

The article goes on – Every company normally faces one common problem of high employee turnout ratio. People are leaving the company for better pay, better profile or simply for just one reason’ pak gaya !

Why do experienced, professional and talented employees leave despite a top salary?

The answer lies in one of the largest studies undertaken by the Gallup Organization. The study surveyed over a million employees and 80,000 managers and was published in a book called First Break All the Rules.

It came up with this surprising finding: If you’re losing good people, look to their immediate supervisor. More than any other single reason, he is the reason people stay and thrive in an organization.  And he’s the reason why they quit, taking their knowledge, experience and contacts with them. Often, straight to the competition.

People leave Managers not Companies,” write the authors Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman. “So much money has been thrown at  the challenge of keeping good people – in the form of better pay, better  perks and better training – when, in the end, turnover is mostly  Manager  issue.”

If you have a turnover problem, look first to your Managers.   Are they driving people away?

Beyond a point, an employee’s primary need has less to do with money, and more to do with how he’s treated and how valued he feels. Much of this depends directly on the immediate manager. And yet, bad bosses seem to happen to good people everywhere..

A Fortune magazine survey some years ago found that nearly 75 per cent of employees have suffered at the hands of difficult superiors. You can leave one job to find – you guessed   it, another wolf in a pin-stripe suit in the next one.

Of all the workplace stressors, a bad boss is possibly the worst, directly impacting the emotional health and productivity of employees. HR Experts say that of all the abuses, employees find public humiliation the most intolerable. The first time, an employee may not leave, but a Thought has been planted…

The second time that thought gets strengthened.  The third time, he starts looking for another job.  When people cannot retort openly in anger, they do so by passive aggression. By digging their heels in and slowing down. By doing only what they are told to do and NO MORE. This is done by omitting to give the boss crucial and very essential information.

That could impact and seriously jeopardize an organization. Have you seen this in real life? A new staff joins and is highly keen and motivated. He seriously and genuinely cares and feels for the organization. At the risk of his own job (remember probation and can be terminated in a week’s notice at the least?) he speaks his mind in order to try to rectify, remedy and correct a situation. His peers look up at him in disdain, cynicism and even bordering contempt – in their hearts they say we have seen and heard these all over before (so what else is new?). In the end another (new) frustrated, de motivated, dehumanized Staff hits the dust! Another casualty figure to contend!

That is Paak Ghaya, or in Hindi – over ripe fruit, cannot be eaten anymore!

It is said“If you work for a jerk, you basically want to get him into trouble.  (The sooner the better!) You don’t have your heart and soul in the job”. The day he leaves, there is a BIG CELEBRATION party the villain has gone, no more trouble, no more pain, no more suffering. Until the new Manager has come in ‘with a new broom sweeping better’ – unless and until that is he starts to behave like his old peer again (Remember Animal Farm?).

Different Managers can stress out employees in different ways – by being too controlling, too suspicious, too pushy, too critical, too manipulative (divide and conquer syndrome, even if it is the establishment that eventually suffers!) – but they forget that workers are not fixed assets, they are free agents. When this goes on too long, an employee will quit – often over seemingly trivial issue.

It isn’t the 100th blow that knocks a good man down. It’s the 99 that went before. And while it’s true that people leave jobs for all kinds of reasons- for better opportunities or for circumstantial reasons, many who leave would have stayed – had it not been for one man constantly telling them, as Arun’s boss did: “You are dispensable. I can find dozens like you.”

While it seems like there are plenty of other fish especially in today’s waters, consider for a moment the cost of losing a talented employee. There’s the cost of finding a replacement.

The cost of training the replacement. The cost of not having someone to do the job in the meantime. The loss of clients and contacts the person had with the industry. The loss of morale in co-workers. The loss of trade secrets this person may now share with others.

Plus, of course, the loss of the company’s reputation. Every person who leaves a   corporation then becomes its ambassador, for better or for worse.

We all know of large IT companies that people would love to join and large television companies few want to go near. In both cases, former employees have left to tell their tales. “Any company trying to compete must figure out a way to engage the mind of every employee,

Jack Welch of GE once said.   Much of a company’s value lies “between the ears of its employees”.  If it’s bleeding talent, it’s bleeding value.

Unfortunately, many senior executives busy traveling the world, signing new deals and developing a vision for the company, have little idea of what may be going on at home. That deep within an organization that otherwise does all the right things, one man could be driving its best people away.

Next time you as the Manager or Supervisor feel like screaming and shouting at that Staff of yours – THINK AGAIN. As I said before – God gave you brains to use, and this too not for decorations!

The Prophet (SAW) warned against envy by comparing it to fire that completely burns the wood. He (SAW) said: “Beware of jealousy, for verily it destroys good deeds the way fire destroys wood.” [Abu Dawood] Hasaad (Jealousy / Envy) is a disease of the heart and it causes impurity to the heart, when Allah’s Messenger (SAW) was asked who are the best of people? He (SAW) replied: “the one with a clean heart and truthful tongue.” They asked: ‘We understand a truthful tongue, but what does a clean heart mean?’ he answered: ‘It is the heart of one that is pious, pure, and is free of sin, transgressions, hatred and Hasad.” [Ibn Majah]

An African President – just after Independence from the colonial masters – was ‘teasing’ his congregation that the local ‘mentality and outlook’ that anything good must be ‘British – English’ and anything bad local!

For example?

Sad and Tragic!

A big rooster (chicken) must be an ‘English Chicken’ – thus ‘English orange’ – English mango (!) etc.! But there was no ‘English Cockroach’ – ‘English scorpion’ etc. – these were only local ones!

A question of mentalities and outlooks!

There is also this issue that some elements – perhaps more because of their backgrounds or perhaps sources support – think that they ‘know everything!’ and that they are better than everyone else and that they have more rights too! These people will never change – until it is too late for them – and everybody else too for that matter!

NEED I SAY MORE? Do Not think so!

Take Care!
